Posted October 10, 200618 yr Does anyone here have a contact at either North Coast Tours, Lolly the Trolley or the Convention and Visitors Bureau? I am looking for a part-time position that will combine my entertainment background with my love of the city and desire to promote the cool, interesting aspects of Cleveland, so I would love to be a city tour guide or possibly serve in an administrative position at that type of organization. I have worked as a museum docent and a park naturalist, plus I perform audience-interactive cabaret and have good improv abilities. My schedule is pretty flexible and I'm very comfortable with public speaking and entertaining, so I think being a tour guide would be a great fit for me. I don't expect these positions pay much, I'm just looking for something fun to supplement my income. Any leads anyone can give me would be great. Thanks!

The closer it is to the group you'd like to work for, and the closer it is to your passion in life, the better. You may not directly find work through the group you volunteer for - but that time you spend meeting others is invaluable. They also get to know you and getting that "face time" can work wonders. I'll say this much about the CVB - a few years ago, I offered my volunteer services, and figured that I'd be able to help with tours of downtown, etc. I explained about my site, my book, and of course my love and support of Cleveland. I got a "form" reply for people who were interested in sitting at the booth at Hopkins - as if I'd want to spend my time behind some desk helping people find the restrooms  Granted that was a few years ago, but I hope they've addressed that bullsh!t during the past years of their overhaul. To all the groups who might be reading this - when someone offers their service as a volunteer, insulting them is probably not the best approach! :) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
