April 11, 200817 yr The windows are in at bang and clatter... this inside looks pretty much complete and they are focussing on the outside... I'm really excited for this place to get finished off... one more piece of the puzzle.
April 11, 200817 yr ^^ I know we're heard about 2 hundred possible dates, but I talked with the a couple of the construction workers today, and they said they hope to have everything completed by next friday (a week from today).
April 16, 200817 yr Looks like Jonathon Sawyer's new place is going to be on E. 4th. From today's Free Times: With luck, Jonathon Sawyer may break ground on his new restaurant, The Greenhouse Tavern, as early as next month. Located on East Fourth Street, the restaurant will build upon the chef's work at Bar Cento, where he features recipes built around sustainable, local, indigenous ingredients. A rooftop greenhouse and garden will provide the restaurant with supplemental produce. "This project is much more personal than Bar Cento," explained Sawyer. "I've been working on it for almost two years." The long, narrow space in the Cort's building will seat approximately 120 guests on a main floor, open mezzanine and lower-level open kitchen. Additional rooftop seating will bump capacity up to 200 in warm weather. Featuring a wealth of reclaimed materials, from barn siding to porcelain sinks, the proposed design is described as "farmhouse-edgy." Diners can expect true gastropub fare like house-cured pickles, poutine, crispy fried variety meats, cod in parchment and Ohio-beef burgers. With luck, the Greenhouse will be up and running sometime this fall. For more information visit thegreenhousetavern.com.
April 16, 200817 yr that might be the best web site i've ever seen for a place that doesn't even exist yet... and wasn't this the place the M. Symon's "Hush" was going to be? I like this idea a TON better.
April 16, 200817 yr and wasn't this the place the M. Symon's "Hush" was going to be? I like this idea a TON better. that's what I was thinking. I wonder if Hush has been hushed.
April 16, 200817 yr Nice. I also saw the owner of La Dolce Vita in front of the La Strada space, seemingly giving a tour of the space to a few gents. E4th isn't that corporate afterall.
April 16, 200817 yr Yesterday, i was peering my head inside the construction front at La Strada and one of the workers came over and asked if I wanted to check it out (Ummm, yes please... and no mayday I didn't have a "spy cam" attached to my glasses). He told me Terry wants to have it done in a month... Not a chance, but they really are starting to get after it in there and it shouldn't be tttoooo much longer.
April 16, 200817 yr "(Ummm, yes please... and no mayday I didn't have a "spy cam" attached to my glasses)." *Scoff!!!* Worthless!!! ;-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 16, 200817 yr Both the Greenhouse Tavern and La Strada news - my mouth is watering. And I'm glad that neither of them are bars.
April 16, 200817 yr I LOVE gravy and cheese fries! Freshman year at school we looked at our friend from Long Island like she was crazy but it wasn't too long after that did we experience the beauty of the perfect late night-post drinking snack!
April 16, 200817 yr I LOVE gravy and cheese fries! Freshman year at school we looked at our friend for Long Island like she was crazy but it wasn't too long after that did we experience the beauty of the perfect late night-post drinking snack! Try them with gravy/cheese/and pork. ummmmmmmm
April 16, 200817 yr "Diners can expect true gastropub fare like house-cured pickles, poutine, crispy fried variety meats, cod in parchment and Ohio-beef burgers". mmmm variety meats?! Cleveland is growing up! Of course all our immigrant ancestors have always eaten these...but other than hotdogs they have never crossed over to the mainstream in Cle too well. Gravy? Cheese? Pork? oh my.
April 16, 200817 yr I wonder what will happen to the se corner at E4/Prospect? I love the openess of that space! I wish a Parisian style bistro/cafe would open up providing simple snacks and drinks (coffee/beer/diabolo menthes), even a prix-fixe menu with only a couple options that change every day-- a casual outlet on the street. It would be nice to have 24 hr. cafe in the city as I don't think there are any 24 coffee shops in Cleveland?? Coffee shop not greasy diner! It was great using the 24hr. coffee shops in Chicago and I think that an addition like this on E4 would be great for downtown!

I like the idea of a 24 hour diner, but the over night staff has to be sassy! You know...like.....um, MayDay.

There aren't any 24-hour joints downtown, but there are plenty in the city -- especially in my neighborhood (West 117th between Clifton and Detroit). April 16, 200817 yr Yes, Gravy+Pepper Jack Cheese+Pernil=Heart attack! But oh so worth it. drool. sounds like a cure- all to me: hangover, depession, pms.. longevity.
April 16, 200817 yr drool. sounds like a cure- all to me: hangover, depession, pms.. longevity. Oh....and I forgot...you must put jalapeno & chili peppers on top. We'll I can tell you I've sprawled out on the sofa with a bowl of the above mixture and a good flick before. It cures many a thing (i can't speak on the PMS though - I had my tubes tied years ago).

April 17, 200817 yr Not sure it will be ready by... tomorrow. But we'll see. They were putting in the front doors this morning (they appeared to be french doors stolen from my grandma's premanufactured Florida solarium).
April 17, 200817 yr Not sure it will be ready by... tomorrow. But we'll see. They were putting in the front doors this morning (they appeared to be french doors stolen from my grandma's premanufactured Florida solarium). LMAO!! LMAO!!
April 17, 200817 yr but the inside appears finished... my guess is that they want to open so badly they will probably do it even if the front isn't painted and the signage isn't up.
April 17, 200817 yr Not sure it will be ready by... tomorrow. But we'll see. They were putting in the front doors this morning (they appeared to be french doors stolen from my grandma's premanufactured Florida solarium). I 100% agree, I thought the same dern thing when I walked by this morning.
April 17, 200817 yr Bang & Clatter facade: Yeah, hope that door is either "trying to be ironic" or temporary: And okay - this is just tacky - rip these damn things down and sell the scrap while prices are high  clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 17, 200817 yr Awesome- thanks for those photos, Mayday! Someone needs to see a show there to report back. [and yes, enough with the tacky branding elements already!]
April 17, 200817 yr Well if I didn't see one of the glass panels busted out every other day on those things I *might* not be inclined to think "now THAT's hood!" clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 17, 200817 yr I love the steaming hot cup of coffee on the "iconic" statue... is there any place on 4th you can actually stop to get a cup of coffee?
April 17, 200817 yr Oh c'mon MayDay, it's just a flaming cup of coffee. I figured you'd like flaming things (And now, KJP does his Jesse Owens impression!!) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 17, 200817 yr What's with the crab/nut cracker on that thing? Or am I being stupid? It's an adjustable slip-joint plier... as in "work". That whole dumb statue is about "live, work, play".
April 17, 200817 yr somebody should have hired a designer! It looks like they ordered this stuff at a closeout sale. the door..the pliers (wtf?). sigh. What is it lately about the Flori-Vegas design around here?
April 18, 200817 yr Those doors were definitely NOT what was shown at design review. I love Home Depot off-the-shelf!! ;)
April 18, 200817 yr oh, but that glass kills me. That stuff looks so suburban cheap to me. McMansions wouldn't even have those types of doors.
April 18, 200817 yr you and me both... and trust me I'm trying to see if anything can be done about it.
April 18, 200817 yr I walked by B&C at lunch and there was a ton of activity. Must have been 15 people working on various things, outside and in. The doors definitely look permanent but don't seem to match at all what I could see of the interior, I agree they are kind of weird.
April 18, 200817 yr No way those home depot clearance racks door can be the doors. Maybe they just stuck them in there to generate some buzz on this site until the real doors that are on order arrive :-D
