safe to assume we are talking about more than a few potted plants?  no hints even?

Here's your hint... It's really f*cking awesome.   You shouldn't have to wait too long.

(I'm actually kicking myself a little for not swiping one of the rendering packets)

now my expectations are too high...if it is anything less than some sort of urban rain forest, I'll be disappointed

Rain gardens on East Fourth!

Perhaps if you show up when the DCA is watering this area it will be an urban rain forest....

I am really, really excited about this landscaping, whatever it is.  Can't wait.

[Though I'm sure it won't compare at all to Driveway Plaza, the beautiful new greenspace Doug Price is bringing us.]

by the way... it appears that the post for the valet signage has been installed.  I can't imagine it will take too much longer for that thing to be up and lit.  Should add nicely to the neon activity of the street.

well... Lola was unloading new chairs and tables to their patio today at lunch.  Guess they finally gave in.

Take a look at E.4th today. Some of the new flower baskets are being put up. More to come soon.

MAYDAY MAYDAY... looks like we have a photo op

It's 8 billion degrees outside!!! Do you have *any* idea what that does to my hair?!?

Oh alright...

Spritz on some AquaNet and HUSH!  Now git-ta snappin!  :-)

shouldn't we just have some sort of "Mayday Signal" we can post that gets him running off to take pictures

In all fairness, whats wrong with you kids taking some pics from you camera phones or bring your cameras?

Hell, if I can do it for SS, you can do it.

The planters that are laying on the ground will be on top of poles like you see in the other pictures. Additionally, there will be some flower sconces on a few buildings and some rectangular planters on the sidewalks.

Plans for the winter are also being developed so that E.4 doesn't look so barren after fall.

Thanks Batman.

That last picture is probably best Representative of how it's going to look.  There will also be some wall sconces with flower planters installed in some areas (most notably the columns of the building where Blackfin will be.  There were some planters envisioned in between the "light posts" along the sidewalk as well, those may be tweaked a little.  A couple other recommendations were made during design review.  Regardless there is more to come.  Thanks for the pics Mayday, and I really can't wait for some of the colors to start coming out on these flowers, and with this weather i can't imagine it taking long.  :)

EDIT:  Damit! 3231 beat me to it.

We'll it's green!

I hope some of those plants flower.

Looks good I like the the green contrast to brick buildings, really adding life to the streetscape

Thanks for the pics! I like. The winter plans should be interesting.

You're all very welcome.... just remember that the holidays are only a few months away! (hint hint)

You're so subtle and humble!

Looks great!  And I can't wait to see how it finished off.  This was definitely a great idea.

But man does that "Road Closed" sign bug me.  The road is not closed.  I might have to replace the sign in the dead of night with "Pedestrians Only Beyond this Point".

How are the apartments above Corner Alley coming along?

^ They have to be getting close.  I've seen people hauling carpet and wood flooring in, which is obviously close to the end. If you stand on Euclid you can see some units painted and appeared rather finished off.  Of course you can still see metal studs in the ones above pickwick in the above pictures, so some are obviously further along than others.

the new vegetation looks awesome. really changes the feel of the street. thanks for the pics.

Most of them are in bloom now, but they are smaller blooms that aren't showing up in the pictures.  Overall I am happy with it, though some of the plant selections seem a little odd, like the prairie grass on the pole planters.

The "praire grass" is in a pre-flower stage.

I think that the winter themes will provide the most unique experience.

I saw that walking home last night and all I can say is, " HOLY FRICKING HOLY SATURDAY!"  For any of you who are Catholic or grew up Catholic, it looks like a church that exploded with flowers for Easter!  A very nice addition!  And the best thing is that the patios are full!  For some landscaping ideas, they might want to look at how overboard (in a good way) Chicago goes in flowers and such, coordinating with seasons/holidays.

incredible enhancement for this street. because of the streets narrowness, the greenery has much much more impact than the warehouse district's hanging planter project. i too am keenly interested in the winter themes as cleveland generally does not pay much attention to landscaping in the winter months.  i vote for more conifers & succulents!

i still think the best urban landscaping in all of cleveland, perhaps even greater cleveland, is at CSU

thanks for the pics!

LOL.  Lord!

great pictures! thanks for taking them! that that sign really does need to go. it should be replaced with some sort of retractable decrotive concrete pillar that is activated via rfid or infared to retract for authorized vehicles or could be dropped permanently for all traffic during certain times. I could only imagine the implementation costs though.

Nice pictures.  I'm taking one of my nephews to E4 after tonight's ballgame (probably can't get in anywhere but it'll be neat just to hang out).  Does anyone know if the restaurants will let him inside or eat at the patios at night?

He can eat anywhere, unless it's physically at the bar.

My 15 y/o nephew and 15/16 y/o cousins go downtown just to eat cheap or sit out.

Am I the only one who thinks the landscaping is a little too much.  I am all for some eye-pleasing greenery but the pictures make it seem like somebody with a green thumb went a just a bit too far.  That being said, I am going to reserve judgment until I see it with my own eyes.

I don't think it's too much.  I'm glad you're keeping an open mind and checking it out for yourself.

To me it just appeared that much of the foliage was not installed.

Also, we don't have an "elevated" shot, to view the entire street, which would no doubt give the viewer a better scale picture.

Perhaps on this board, but I know most of my coworkers were complaining that it is too much, and that it will draw bees.  *sigh*  Those people complain about everything.

Bee stings are a bitch!  I'm nursing one now!  Ouch!

I wonder - and would think - that the design committee worked with a nursery or the Cleveland botanical gardens to address situations like this.

X, you live there, I'm sure the streetscape project has enhanced your neighborhood. Ask them if Bee's will be a deterrent in coming to east 4?  then remind those idiots, that there are other methods for combating insects!

I doubt it will actually draw many bees.  And I'm not worried about it if it does, as I know that the kind of bees that feed on flowers aren't going to bother people.

I don't think the second floor of the Pickwick building is part of the residential conversion.  As far as I know, Pickwick still owns that floor and has always hoped to expand up there.  For now they use it for storage.  We occasionally used to rehearse shows up there.  There is a big old bank safe in one of the old office spaces as I believe it was last used as a bank?  Those metal studs have been there for years I think.  Part of some movie was filmed in there, I wish I could remember which one, it involved a scene where guys broke through somebody's kitchen wall...some of what's left of the set is still there...maybe someone else knows.

Welcome to Collinwood??

Well, I don't see Chicago making national news for a bee overpopulation.  We should be just fine.  On the bright side, it's good that honey bees on E4th are the biggest concern for Clevelanders at this time!

I had no idea... thanks.  :)

Yes!  That's the one.

La Strada's signage is going up.

^How's it looking?

Too early to tell.  They integrated the new signage into the "streamline moderne" strip of aluminum that was there.
