March 26, 201015 yr I'm sure many of the improvements made will be an investment for a future space. It's currently a gutted shell. I'm guessing they could even do similar things to what will be implemented here a couple times a year if they want. wait until the announcement is made. never in a million years would I have thought of such a thing. I actually think it might work, regardless just seeing that storefront fixed up and something happening inside will be a beautiful sight.
March 26, 201015 yr If anybody is wondering what is happening at the corner of 4th and euclid, behind closed windows: these are some photos...
March 26, 201015 yr I thought that too, but I don't believe this location is one of the ones spelled out in the Constitution as being legal for casino gambling.
March 26, 201015 yr I thought that too, but I don't believe this location is one of the ones spelled out in the Constitution as being legal for casino gambling. Even though it would only be temporary, I dont see how this space could be big enough for a casino. The casinos at most parish festivals seem larger than what this space could hold.
March 26, 201015 yr I wouldnt put it past Gilbert to throw that out there. What does size matter? as long as it is filled up. There is no hotel attached or antyhing...all they need is bodies in there...if there are too many people then you just create a maximum
March 27, 201015 yr wait until the announcement is made. Can you at least say when the announcement will be made?
March 29, 201015 yr well interesting.... i found out what was going on at the corner of 4th and euclid. and well... it's not a restaurant. it's not a bar. it's not a store. And actually... it's temporary. I'll be interested to see people's reactions when the announcement is made. Very different. But, at least it means we're getting a rebuilt storefront and an active space. So clue me in on your secret sources here. Is this non-public information that you somehow have access to? Otherwise, why can't you say? I don't understand the point of posting on a forum, "Hey, I know what this space is going to be, but I can't say anything, but just you wait! And beg me for it because I know SECRETS!"
March 29, 201015 yr ^That is a bit harsh. Clearly McCleveland is not at liberty to disclose details but is kind enough to share what information he can so we can monitor the progress and be assured that things are happening. McCleveland is usually in the know about many things and is one of the most intelligent and clear thinking posters on this board. It certainly has nothing to do with ego as you imply.
March 29, 201015 yr well... at hts alludes to. This information is not public knowledge. If the developer wanted it as public knowledge they'd put a coming soon sign on the storefront. I'm very fortunate in the regard that because of certain things i do and people i know i come across a lot of information of a lot of things going on around town. if i posted everything i know, i probably wouldn't get 90% of the information i do. i know many of the people "doing" things around town. And i believe that a developer should be given the opportunity to make announcements on their projects as they see fit. Call it a common courtesy. that being said, i remember before i knew these people how great it was to come to UO trying to get any piece of information i could. personally, i think hearing things like "it's not another bar or restaurant and is very different" or "it's space being filled by a high profile local chef" are things people want to know. I know I would. I think it gives people a little info and can help create excitement and discussion, which is good for everyone. As far as this project goes, it hits local design review tomorrow, so it should hit city design review sometime in april (i think the 9th or 23rd) at which point it will be public... so you shouldn't have to wait too much longer. :) after thinking about it, this is really different, but I think it will be successful and should help generate even more foot traffic in the area... even if it is a temporary use... which is a good thing.

March 30, 201015 yr ^That is a bit harsh. McCleveland is usually in the know about many things and is one of the most intelligent and clear thinking posters on this board. It certainly has nothing to do with ego as you imply. Nailed it. One of the great things about this forum is that there are a LOT of people who have access to information before it's released to the public. Of course, that comes with a sense of responsibility as McCleveland alluded to - if he openly shared info that wasn't intended to go beyond his ears, he'd never be granted access again. I think most people in that sort of position WANT to share all the good news, but for legal reasons, they can't. As I've said before, although they don't post, I am continually surprised by the people who 'lurk' on the forum - and if they saw info being shared prematurely by someone they trusted, we'd never even hear the fuzzy details. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 30, 201015 yr McCleveland is very good at getting me excited about things I know nothing about!
March 30, 201015 yr Maybe a sales center for 515...you said temporary, right . Oh, wishfull thinking.
March 31, 201015 yr Interesting :) My five absolutely uninformed guesses are: - This one's a bit weird, but a space where individuals can stop in and sample menus and see video feeds from each of the East 4th restaurants before heading to the respective spot of their choice. You can see what's offered, design elements and how busy each restaurant looks. - A temporary, small-crowd cooking demonstration site in advance of Tri-C's opening in the May Building and as a place where the various E. 4th chefs can show off their craft. - A partnership with Bazaar Bizarre to extend their alternative craft show concept over a longer period (they have previously held it annually, at least twice in the Chinato space, but this year they added a Valentine's event in the former Bang & Clatter space). - A collaboration with Pop Up City to host a number of different temporary events that highlight the versatility of vacant spaces. - Some kind of bike facility (in light of DCA's seasonal effort to rent bikes out and in preparation for the bike center a couple of blocks away).
March 31, 201015 yr ^I hope some developers are capturing some of these ideas. They may ultimately be "wrong" but they are all good ideas that may not have been thought of.
April 1, 201015 yr by the way I do believe this will be hitting landmarks / design review on the 9th, so keep your eyes peeled. One further tidbit, they are looking to open here mid may and run through mid november. Interestingly, I heard from one individual that they had a restaurant on the hook that would be following on the heels of this tennant, but someone who is always in the loop on this stuff hadn't heard that... so at this point I'd consider that nothing more than an unconfirmed rumor.
April 1, 201015 yr ^I hope some developers are capturing some of these ideas. They may ultimately be "wrong" but they are all good ideas that may not have been thought of. No joke! Even with the hints from McCleve, these are some really reasonable sounding uses. Oh man, a seasonal farmers' market there would be really, really awesome.
April 1, 201015 yr Hmmmmm. How soon do they post the agenda before the meeting? I think a working week would be a reasonable heads-up ... which would be today :)
April 1, 201015 yr jam40jeff: Why did you say the announcement would be made in "October?" Where do you fit into the mystery? And "October" doesn't into the rest of this dialogue....
April 1, 201015 yr landmarks is usually posted by the tuesday before the meeting. very rarely is it posted earlier than that. sometimes they don't post until the day of the meeting.
April 2, 201015 yr it is going to be a museum! Note: grammer correction. Note, note: spelling correction? :P
April 2, 201015 yr it is going to be a museum! Note: grammer correction. That makes sense...if its only open during the summer, I would guess Indians museum.
April 2, 201015 yr ^Wasn't there a Cleveland sports hall of fame slated for the neighborhood? Or did that actually happen in a new sports bar?
April 2, 201015 yr it is going to be a museum! Note: grammer correction. Note, note: spelling correction? :P No, it was grammer believe me. By the way the information came from the workers inside: they just mentioned "museum" so I don't have anything particular..
April 5, 201015 yr Wow, I never would have guessed what I was told today about the 4th and Euclid space. I'm not sure whose creative mind came up with the idea but it sounds pretty promising. Like McCleveland said it is very different than what the rest of 4th street has to offer, as well as the main core of downtown also. From what I was able to see the renovations inside are coming along quickly, and a middle to end of June was the opening time that I was told. The question i have is who will run this place? And is it affiliated with any other place in N.E. Ohio?
April 5, 201015 yr Wow, after all this "non-disclosure stuff" going on around, I think I will call City of Cleveland Building Department of Building and Housing (or whatever it is) and asked for further information about this space by providing the "permit number" posted!
April 5, 201015 yr It is pretty cool...definitely something I would go to. I think they go city to city doing this.
April 5, 201015 yr ^Wasn't there a Cleveland sports hall of fame slated for the neighborhood? Or did that actually happen in a new sports bar? There's an Indians baseball museum of sorts in the middle of the Colonial Arcade... at least there was the last time I went through there (last summer). It's in the West arcade. Their hours are very limited however.
April 5, 201015 yr In reply to the inquiry about "sports hall of fame in the area," there are, within the Euclid Arcade (within Colonial Marketplace), several combined storefronts so housing a Negro League museum. I seem to recall more sports-related history stuff was planned for the vacant storefronts there but nothing has materialized. It was probably supposed to be an array of shops selling sports collectibles. As you may recall there was, for a few years, a long-and-narrow business running between Prospect and Huron which sold baseball-related items and collectibles besides stadium-related food items. Called "Take Me Out," or something like that. Different than any other sports store in area.
April 5, 201015 yr Now that half of the people in the forum already know what is going in the space, its just silly not to inform the rest of us. But...I'm sure I'm barking up the wrong tree.
April 5, 201015 yr I don't know, it's kind of fun to guess... How about a temporary pet store or animal shelter. Nothing attracts pedestrians to store windows like kittens and puppies. Nothing wholesome, anyway.
April 6, 201015 yr I'm just interested to see how everything will come together and to know, exactly, what type of museum this is slated to be? I also think that if it's going to be a museum, they should market it now. I would love to see people becoming more interested in the downtown area and with museums!
April 6, 201015 yr It should be interesting to see how it fits in. I think I'll probably stop by while it's here
April 6, 201015 yr I'm just guessing, but I would say maybe it is some type of culinary museum maybe done by Food Network or something...just given it's location. Like I said, just a guess. Am I warm?

April 6, 201015 yr I had dinner at Chinato last night (very good meal), and I asked the waitress if they were planning on outdoor seating. She said that they are just waiting on the furniture and it should be about 2 weeks.
