June 25, 201212 yr chipotle is going in the former bang and clatter. there is a new gumbo place going in the space next to jimmy johns. It will not be 2 stories, above that space is part of the WT Grant apartment complex. McCleveland speaks, we listen. <<<Damn 500 Posts...

June 25, 201212 yr Yes, there have been MANY Quiznos locations close over the past couple years. I heard something about they now require all the franchises to purchase any and all supplies through corporate, which has made the cost of operation astronomical. Don't know if that's true or not. In the mean time, any Quiznos lovers should be pleased with Potbelly, which, BTW, is open till 7 on weeknights and 3-11 on Saturday if you missed it in the Restaurant thread. I've been there twice already even though I never set foot in that Quiznos over the course of the past 4 years cause I never knew when the heck they were open!

June 26, 201212 yr What is the name of the new Gumbo's place? Is it J-Gumbo's which is the chain expanding in Columbus?
June 26, 201212 yr So between Public Square and East 6th, in the last several months, and near future, we added a Chipotle, Gumbo?, Potbelly, Hodges, Colossal Cupcakes, Cleveland Clothing Company, Visitors Center, NoodleCat, and Zoup. I think we see this progress continue to spread. I'd like to see that progress turn the corner by Potbelly and go down East 6th Street. There's some empty retail spaces to be filled there. And then we could start a new thread! :)

Of course this is excepting the monstrosity that is the old NCC office (Garfield or Guardian I think) building that I believe is a possibility to become apartments. Right now the whole thing with the exception of the PNC branch has been mothballed.
June 27, 201212 yr There's two spaces at East 6th and Euclid: one was the old Erieview News and one is just labeled "Printing". But yes, "Rosetta Center" is across East 6th and now that MRN owns it and is adding apartments, maybe something will happen with the vacant street level spaces.

But yes, "Rosetta Center" is across East 6th and now that MRN owns it and is adding apartments, maybe something will happen with the vacant street level spaces. I had thought that was just one space. The MRN/Rosetta Building is a actually in between that one and the PNC Tower. The recent article on converting some floors to apartments identified it as the New England Building (or something like that). This building, The Guardian Building, is actually owned by Westcore Properties. They appear to be trying to find lease for the property. Although they don't seem to be trying too hard.
July 9, 201212 yr They're definitely two spaces with the one of the left/south advertising leasing opportunities while the one on the right/north seems to have work going on inside. I thought that maybe they were just prepping it for potential tenants, but last week I saw some construction workers carrying in what looked to be a large, curved countertop. Something must be going in there.
July 10, 201212 yr Yes, just to the right. The "Printing" storefront is the one with activity going on. "Erieview News" just has "This space for lease" signs.
July 12, 201212 yr Well good news is that the gumbo place wasn't just a rumor. It's confirmed. Whoever mentioned the gumbo place also mentioned the chipotle going in next door so I'm assuming they are a credible source! Whoo hooo! http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/new-cajun-restaurant-called-j-gumbos-to-open-this-fall-on-euclid-avenue-in-downtown-cleveland
July 23, 201212 yr CLE Clothing Company was putting up a nice big sign today. It's their cross bones logo and fits in with everything else on the street.
July 23, 201212 yr Very nice...I'll snap a pic if noone else does by 4. Thanks!! I have this thing for cool and quirky signage.
July 23, 201212 yr Regarding the Chipotle on Euclid, I just Tweeted at them asking about any plans to put a location in downtown Cleveland and their response was "I don't see any plans in the near future, but things can change!" Take that as what you will
July 23, 201212 yr ^ Thats strange, but maybe they dont want any information leaked over twitter? Who knows
July 26, 201212 yr chipotle is moving forward. relax. believe it or not things usually don't get built 1 week after being announced.
July 26, 201212 yr chipotle is moving forward. relax. believe it or not things usually don't get built 1 week after being announced. I definitely trust you. You've always been right in the past. It will be awesome to finally see that space finally used. Such a cool building.
July 26, 201212 yr chipotle is moving forward. relax. believe it or not things usually don't get built 1 week after being announced. It does seem strange though that they would publicly say they don't know of any plans yet if it has been announced.

It does seem strange though that they would publicly say they don't know of any plans yet if it has been announced. Ehh, not really. If they are still working through all of the details (MRN, Planning & Landmark Commisions, etc) they may not want to announce it yet. Each company will have different policies on how the public is informed about such things. Twitter, while great at interacting, isn't really the place to make a statement like that. Press releases allow for much more control over what message is being delivered.
July 26, 201212 yr First casino visit last night and walked back by Chipotle and J Gumbo's spot - and didn't like the empty storefronts - and this will make a HUGE difference.. Hopefully, a full set of storefronts will help connect all business along there (Pura Vida and the former Cadillac Ranch seem isolated from rest and could use some more customers, too). Now - and this may be for another thread (Gateway) - but what's going on with same spots on Prospect? Almost totally empty blocks between E 4th and casino...
August 8, 201212 yr WELL... its finally here. What do we think? I don't know anything about the restaurant but this is in my opinion a huge development for the area... "Red the Steakhouse to replace Volk's Jewelry & Loans, other Prospect Avenue merchants" http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/08/red_the_steakhouse_to_replace.html#incart_river_default ALSO POSTED IN RESTAURANT NEWS
August 8, 201212 yr Was at an event at Uptown this evening and Ari Maron announced this. Said it will be on the front page of the PD tomorrow. Apparently they have a location on Richmond Road and two in Florida. http://www.redthesteakhouse.com/index.php/cleveland/

Apparently they have a location on Richmond Road and two in Florida. http://www.redthesteakhouse.com/index.php/cleveland/ I've been to the one in Beachwood and it's a great steakhouse! But I'm more excited about the huge upgrade that the building will receive. Haven't seen any plans yet, but I can't imagine Maron will finish the ground floor without upgrading the entire thing. It will be nice to have those eyesore fences removed.
August 8, 201212 yr Im most excited about this long-unsightly gap being filled in and now turn my eyes down Prospect towards the Goldfish group of buildings and the May Co.... Between those and the couple surface lots (one can wish) I can't wait to see what happens next now that the momentum is continuing.
August 8, 201212 yr If those merchants are looking for a place to move, there's plenty of vacant space inside the Euclid/Colonial Arcades! Sheesh! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 8, 201212 yr I still think the those arcades, especially the Euclid arcade since it is worse off, would be great as a place for small local shops like Room Service and Salty not Sweet, maybe even Yellow Cake. If you put them all in one location, and that specific location, I think it almost becomes somewhat of an attraction, and they benefit off of each other. It would be a great place for locals to try out their business like that. And from there they could always expand into larger spaces along Euclid and Prospect. It brings new local shopping downtown, and could really jumpstart the retail scene downtown in my opinion. Imagine walking through those arcades and see them full of small little boutique like local businesses. I think it would be successful, and a good direction to go.

I feel they'd all have to move and open at once to get over that "chicken and egg" scenario. Something like what Glazen is trying to organize for Waterloo.
August 8, 201212 yr If those merchants are looking for a place to move, there's plenty of vacant space inside the Euclid/Colonial Arcades! Sheesh! I hope someone responsible for leasing in the arcades is pursuing the retailers being displaced by Red.

Trust me, those retailers have been reached out to. They're not interested in what they consider to be an untested and low-visibility location. There are also concerns about the size of the spaces.
August 8, 201212 yr I walk into the arcades for lunch from Euclid. I rarely walk along Prospect since half the street is taken up by surface lots. Those retailers need to see the pedestrian traffic on Euclid these days. Being in the arcades gives them access to that. What do they get by being on Prospect? August 8, 201212 yr ^From the context, I think "those retailers" in Confiteordeo's post refers to Salty Not Sweet, etc., who are located in places like Ohio City. Seeing that kind of scene in the two smaller arcades would make me really, really happy. Even without visibility, if they could together build some kind of critical mass, it could be pretty awesome and make a name for itself as a destination. Would definitely be a challenge to get there though.
August 8, 201212 yr Well, they would definitely have to allow people in past 7 in order for anything worthwhile to happen.
August 8, 201212 yr The colonial arcade is open to 9pm weekdays for the fitworks gym. Not sure about weekends.

August 9, 201212 yr I've been to the one in Miami Beach, indeed, it is a great steakhouse. Probably the best steaks I've ever had. If it wasn't superb it wouldn't have survived as just one block from it is Prime 112 Steakhouse which is ultra popular with the rich and famous of Miami. September 12, 201212 yr Tremont Taphouse "liked" two new pages on facebook last night: The Cleveland Brewing Company and Butcher & the Brewer...both with addresses listed on East 4th Street. Looks like we know what's filling in the gap! Butcher & the Brewer's page says it's opening Spring 2013. The Cleveland Brewing Co.'s page seems to have disappeared in the time it took me to write this. https://www.facebook.com/butcherandthebrewer
