Very exciting!  Do we have any details on what the facade is going to look like?  It sounds like they're waiting to hear about tax credits before doing that work.  This could provide a strong visual link between Public Square and E. 4th.

I posted a rendering of the facade... either in this thread or random cleveland developments thread... sometime in December.

Yes, Reserve Square will have more selection, but is still a few blocks farther than you probably want to walk with a lot of groceries.  Certainly try both out and keep in mind that you can hop on the free downtown trolley on W. 6th with your groceries and get home to E. 4th without too much hassle.  The B-line trolley will get you to Reserve Square, but on the return route, it'll take a little longer, as the line completes its loop before getting back to Public Square.  Still, both are good options if your arms are full!

I do nearly all of my grocery shopping at Dave's supermarket in Ohio City I go by train. Assuming you are shopping for a typical single male shouldn't be too much to carry.

For heavier items (i.e. beer) I'll run to CVS/Constantino's/etc.

I'd wager that Reserve Square is closer than Constantino's.  And I always get the gallon jug of milk on a seperate run to CVS, because that's a killer to carry otherwise.

There is getting to be quite a cluster of urbanohioan's on East 4th.

I'm extremely excited about the BNC Theatre .. so awesome. Cleveland has some great theatre. That's one of the things I love about that town. I wish those guys much luck .. break a leg, and all that.

Definitely have to check out a show when I'm in town next. Already a very impressive lineup. Hope the performances match up.

yeah, constantino's only for the more special beers (when bud light just won't do).

(when bud light just won't do)

Which is, like, ALWAYS!  :-P

Don't forget that you'll also soon have La Strada, where you'll be able to get some fresh produce right on E. 4th Street.

The performances do match up.  I took a friend to their recent production of an Eric Bogosian play.  This woman has never been to anything but big, Broadway style shows in a fancy theater and she LOVED it.

Very, very cool. I love the fact that they're setting Steppenwolf as a model. I wish them all the best in the world in making a national name for themselves.

But I left it alone and we had a blast at  the bar at the bowling alley and Flannerys, even got some numbers from some cute girls somehow...

I hate you.

What happened to the girl you met at the corner of East Ninth/Euclid?

Sorry.  It was just that he seemed to be meeting lots of chick's in the heart of the city.  To mee that is a good thing as people claim there is never anything going on downtown or that nobody walks the streets.

I thought that was relevent conversation, yet, if deemed inappropriate of off topic, I understand.

Apparently beer is relevent though.

There's a difference in the practicality of helping someone find their way through the neighborhood rather than talking about picking up chicks at a bar.

Hey, I think that's a wholly relevant discussion to have out in the open so I can learn about something I've never had any success at. Please don't force me to stay in lonely hibernation forever, Pope!

Hah, good memory.  I forgot about that.  We went out a couple times but she stopped returning my calls/text messages and even defriended me on facebook.  Since she went to Kent, I went on my buddy's account to access her's (he goes there) and saw that she was, or claimed to be, in a relationship with some guy, so that was that.  I remember being pissed for maybe a week and then forgetting about it completely, lol

And to keep this on point - Zocalo has great margaritas!

dont forget the westside market for groceries.  It is a twenty minute walk if you cut through the flats.

I really liked the food at Zocalo (especially the nachos), but I didn't care for the margaritas.  Other than being way too expensive, they had a very small amount of tequila in them and not the best taste.  I drank a bunch (we had a few pitchers for 4 people and I had the most) and didn't even get a buzz.  Maybe it was just who was making them that day.  :|

Or you could take the Rapid and cut your travel time significantly. A big plus on warm summer days when food can spoil quickly.

new lofts ready above wonder bar

FYI they are "for sale" and will be priced at $425,000 with tax abatement and low condo fees.  They each take up the entire floor.

$425K   :wtf:  for that???

I don't think tax abatements are that great; they often allow the sale prices to be jacked up higher than they otherwise would be.

It's fair to say E. 4th is probably one of the top 3 hottest places to live in Cleveland, right? It doesn't seem that high to me. That unit is pimped out with granite, maple, marble and top of the line appliances!

That's about $236/sq. ft.  For some generic comparison, down the street, there is a similar-sized, 1850 sq. ft. Sincere building condo listed for $339k -- which works out to $183/sq. ft.  The Pointe at Gateway condos nearby on Prospect seem to be listed anywhere from $160 to $200/sq. ft.

Obviously, there could be huge differences between the quality of finishes & level of amenities, but at first glance, they definitely seem to be extending the upper band of the market in that immediate neighborhood.

I was going to compliment the cool picture they took of E. 4th (I really like that shot) and then I realized they ganked it off of clevelandskyscrapers.com:

I hope you got paid MayDay! :)  That's a great photo.

The Lofts on Fourth (http://theloftsonfourth.cicerchi.com) above Wonder Bar ARE totally decked out with the highest end cabinetry, flooring, appliances, etc.  Every detail was taken into to consideration and they are gorgeous.  Pretty soon they are going to start having open houses so everyone will be able to check them out.

Maybe it's just me but the dark cabinetry and counters are an easy but bad way to make something look "expensive".  I can't imagine one having a lot of natural daylight there either and it just makes things darker than they need to be.  Overall it's nice to see this investment come to fruition but it'd be nice to see an end to the suburban model home interior vernacular in such unique spaces.

GO EAST 4TH!

Impressive site.  Lots of information on the neighborhood and the unit specs.  The units look good, but I'm sure would impress much more in person!

And yes, MayDay, I hope you got paid!

I wish them best of luck with their sales but with all due respect, I don't think a GE Profile is "top of the line" in kitchen appliances.  Wolf, Sub-Zero, Viking, those are top of the line models.

I wonder why they didn't decide to let the buyers build out the units.  It's a great building, but if it were me I'd rather have the freedom to do whatever I want instead of dealing with the default granite countertop and stainles steel refrigerator.

yeah!  Go get 'em!

ooops, did I have your permission to post that?

In all seriousness, I think it's pretty pathetic that people are so clueless about using photos they find on the web. Let me put it this way - I know some attorneys who have volunteered their services to me, to meet their annual "pro bono" quota. So if I wanted to be a royal b!tch, the email/web records behind Lofts on Fourth could be subpoenaed, and any correspondence that could be tied into any sales? I could make a claim that they've used my photo for their profit and rightfully demand a cut. Seriously.

I know people think I'm heavy-handed about this, but I wouldn't have to be if all the designers and marketing people who gank my photos would 1. read 2. educate themselves 3. realize that by stealing my images without permission, they're making their employers vulnerable to a lawsuit. It's 2008, and it's high time people wised up. It takes ten seconds to ask for permission, my fees are absurdly reasonable - and did you know that I donate 100% of my licensing fees to Cleveland Public Art?

And as much of a b!tch as I am, I don't come anywhere close to some of the local "veteran" photographers in town.

^you are making a very poor assumption that this website was designed by an actual designer or marketer

I'm guessing 10th grader with Microsoft Frontpage.

You so speak the truth!!

And, welcome aboard Romangirl. Are you also a new arrival in town?

I disagree.  My observations based on the website pictures, sight unseen.

  • Where is the in unit storage?
  • At that price point each unit should have a laundry room, not closet.
  • I looked at the laundry closet doors and 2nd bedroom.  From that picture they do not look top end.
  • American Standard is not top end bathtub.
  • The master bathroom does not have a seperate shower.  That is not a true master en suite bathroom.
  • The layout of the master suite is awkward and has bad flow.
  • Where is the pantry?
  • Where is the kitchen backsplash?

I'm just sayin'

MayDay.  Sue!  Get yours!  Period!    You have every right to be pissed!

Why should you allow someone to use your pictures??  F-ck the dumb sh!t!!  Get yours!!

You're not being heavy-handed about this at all. The thing that makes it worse is that the website looks like total shite, and the placement of the photo reflects the laziness of these people to take their own rather than steal someone else's. I'd be pissed, too.

It's not mine, it's for Cleveland Public Art. :-) I probably won't need to litigate - after all, all I'd need to show a judge is "here's my photo" and "here's their site".

And I don't know that the person in question is necessarily a "dumb sh!t", but they certainly need to be brought up to speed. I mean, I just now sent a reply to some students from Solon High School's paper who asked for permission to use some images and god bless 'em, they actually took the time to read my "Photo Usage" page and wrote a nicely-worded email - I was more than happy to help.

"You so speak the truth!!"

Honestly, these people are lucky that it's one of my images they poached - there are some photographers in town who litigated in similar situations and got 4- and 5- figure settlements! Needless to say, some heads rolled after that! :-o

Really. How hard is it to walk to the Gateway parking deck and take the same damn picture? That's just outright laziness on their part and worth some legal action on your part.

I thought the Cicerchi project was for-sale condos, not for-rent? If so, why are they doing finishes at all? They should let the buyers specify.

Also, what are they charging?

Bingo!  I hope that unit shown is just the model.  Scrool up/down to see my comment on the pricing.

^ That would make it all the more pricy!

good!  Glad we got this all sorted out in one page of the E. 4th Development News thread...

However, kids, the price point is way out of whack with the area.  In addition, based on my earlier comments, the commanding price is out of line for what is being offered in the unit itself.  Not to mention the size of the unit.

I wouldn't touch a unit there with Warren Buffet's money!
