Just out of curiosity, do most cities have visible visitors centers, or are they ussually tucked away in a building. I have never visited one.  And what kind of information will someone find in the visitors center.  I am assuming brochures and maps etc.

I also know that they have identified a tenant for the corner windsor block building. It will be a local clothing retailer, not food or entertainment related... starting to get a nice mix here.

Can you tell us who? :D

That's fantastic!  "Local clothing retailer" certainly narrows it, but I'm really curious to see who it is.

Maybe the Cleveland Clothing Company? Do they have enough products to fill a store though? It would tie in nice with the visitors center though

Daffy Dan's?

Valerie Mayen's store? Or is that going in playhouse square... I can't remember.

^Is that Yellowcake?

^Yeah, Yellowcake.

They have a store in collinwood

Any updates on when the bike garage will open on East 4th?  Ive biked to 2 tribe games and had to lock my bike up to crappy metal loops in the Gateway plaza.

Positively Cleveland has officially moved to their new location. They say their Visitors center will join them in mid June

I've heard from a fairly reliable source that the old "Bang and Clatter" (currently says "Something in the Silence) will be getting some use here in the next month or so.

Apparently more free yoga is coming to downtown, and in this case, it will be used for free weekly community yoga sessions.  They are awaiting Cleveland Fire Department approval.  I'll update everyone once I get more information.

The New Face of Retail

The freshest personality on East Fourth Street isn't another celebrity chef. It's Danielle DeBoe, creator of Room Service boutique and the Made in the 216 events. Now, she's about to launch an ambitious lifestyle store in the middle of downtown's most vibrant entertainment district.

^ Wow, that is going to be awesome for downtown residents like myself! I might have to keep this news from my girlfriend though  :-D. Did the article mention when they plan to open, I don't recall?

^It was supposed to open on June 1st, but I believe they are behind schedule.  Looks like sometime in June though.

  • 2 weeks later...

^ Fantastic! I can't wait to get in there

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched too.  I'm definitely going to throw them some business on my next visit.

The store is beautiful, Danielle is awesome, and I'm so thankful to have a nice place to shop downtown...bought a short and tee combo today for an event! Let's keep the retail coming!! Danielle did say sales have been great last night and today (around 3) and she was glad she hasn't advertised as they are still working kinks out.  Grand opening and party 7/8

Good to hear.  And your right about Danielle, Cleveland is fortunate that she came home where she belongs.

How many retailers eyes are on her store as a litmus test on the viability of dt retail? We need to all patronize and drop some $

Hopefully she starts off the new beginning of downtown retail

She started the whole thing with the Detroit Shoreway, Room Service was the first or one of the first to open up there. It would be fitting for her to get some retail up and going downtown. As much as my fiance was in RS I'm sure we'll be visiting this store soon enough.

I probably won't be able to stop by for a while. Could anyone snap some good interior pics for me?

My pop and I are currently enjoying coffee at Erie Island. He hasn't been on this street since the darker days of the 80s.

Might even pick up a shirt at Dredgers too!

Great experience shopping at Dredgers Union.  Very impressive, the place has a cool vibe and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.

This place is going to do very well folks.

Anyone know what their hours are?

If you see Danielle DeBoe toiling around the store, you might take a min and thank her and wish her luck.  Cleveland can't have too many young entrepreneurs like her who really believe in this town as passionately as she does ... Secondly?  BUY SOMETHING!!

^wish we had a like button

Stopped in Dredgers Union last night. Really spectacular space ... They didn't cut corners on the finishes. According to sales staff, they're doing very well, moving more product than they expected ... And this is before their official grand opening/major marketing push! They said they're getting not only people from the typical younger demographic of room service but also purchases across the board age-wise. And sales on their locally designed Dredgers Union clothing label are going very well. They also noted that they're getting a surprising number of purchases from out-of-towners. Great job, Danielle!

The official grand opening is July 8th, coinciding with Made in the 216 (http://www.madeinthe216.com/), which will be taking place on the lower floor and will feature (among more than 60 local designers) furniture designers from the local F*GROUP. They're basically taking the grand opening/Made in the 216 as an opportunity for an East 4th block party, with a DJ spinning in the store and musicians performing from the roof of the Greenhouse Tavern down onto the street. Should be fun!

This is a major step forward for downtown and the whole city.  I'm going out of my way to buy something there this week.

I'll be buying something, too, for the lady! Hope to see more stores come downtown, soon...

They really do have a nice price range ... My friend bought a couple small pots for $5 each, I got a journal for $7, and then they have large lamps that head into the $200 range. Clothes (including the Dredgers Union label) seem to be on par with a Banana Republic. Didn't look at women's, but menswear was like $30ish for t-shirts, dress shirts in the $70 range, suit jackets up in the lower $100s. So definitely a place you can splurge, but also a place that will benefit from a lot of $20-or-less incidental and impulse purchases.

So its the store open today?

^ Yep. Still soft open, but open. I believe the hours are:

- M-Th, 11-9

- F-Sa, 11-10

- Su, 11-6

When I was down there last night, they still had some people milling around at 9:25 ... Amid a staff that looked happy but very tired :)

I also went in last night. Thought the mens section had some really good stuff at reasonable prices. My girlfriend on the other hand thought the womens stuff was way overpriced.

I went with my girlfriend today at lunch. Place had a really nice crowd. She liked the house stuff. Didn't buy anything yet though. Maybe next time. Looks good inside though.

holy nolita batman -- modern new retail downtown!

she has the quote of the decades: "somebody needed to make the first move" *fistbump*

^Back on Topic?

Why yes, Back on Topic!

So.... do we know whats going in on the corner of Euclid and E4th yet? Store? Restaurant?

I stopped by the Dredgers Union at lunch today and bought five shirts. It's fairly reasonably priced and the place looks fantastic. I'm going back when I can spend a little more time and the wife in tow.

So.... do we know whats going in on the corner of Euclid and E4th yet? Store? Restaurant?

I believe you're referring to the Positively CLE, CLE + and Greater Cleveland Sports offices relocation.

Yes but if I remember correctly, I thought they said they were leaving open the corner spot for some cleveland related restaurant or store.

That would be a-okay with me! But I have no info on that...

I've been in the new E. 4th store twice now, and have sorely disappointed in the number of customers there. As the only non-restaurant business in this hot street of restaurants, with the exception of the small House of Blues sourvenir shop, I had the image in mind of stores I've seen in other cities - stores (sometimes touristy) in very popular places where people pour in and out. Nothing like that from my admittedly limited experiences, though they were on lunch hour and times when there should have been very good numbers in the restaurants.

Is the merchandise too pricey?  I wouldn't think so, in relation to the nearby restaurant prices. Not visible enough?  No, I think store's new signage should be quite noticeable and suffiently alluring. Even if the sign looks too much like nearby restaurants I'd think people would meander over to see what's in there. Not only is there nothing else like the store on that street but most of the merchandise is different from what can be found anywhere else in downtown Cleveland. More like Coventry, or what has recently been coming to Ohio City, or Tremont, Beachcliff, Chagrin Falls, Gordon Square, etc., etc.

Does anyone know if something is coming into the other storefront next to this?

Let's keep spreading the word and help them out.

I had heard they were doing very well thus far. I've been in a couple of times, too, and while I didn't see massive crowds, I didn't expect to either.

I know nothing of fashion or stores or whatever, but my girlfriend loved the store, saying it reminded her of Anthropologie in Chicago. While I have no idea if that comparison is accurate, I do know that Anthropologie is successful and never has massive crowds inside. I've been happy to see what I've seen my two visits, crowd wise.

Sooo, yeah. Optimistic!

^I was in there Saturday and they had a decent crowd in the early afternoon.  I had to wait for a dressing room!  The person I spoke to indicated that they are doing very well so far and business as far exceeded expectations up to this point.  Remember the store hasn't held a grand opening yet, so we'll see how they're doing after the press they get from that.

I was also told that they will be using their downstairs space for events.  The next Made in the 216 event will be held down there and they are considering adding a bar.  I've been told that Key Bank has also inquired about using the space for an event (possibly a networking event).
