December 29, 201212 yr ^ I was just busting your chops, KJP. Nobody is expecting you media types to be working. It's the holidays man! You should be at a Christmas party, double fisting eggnog and rum, trying to make out with your hot neighbor under the mistletoe, like the rest of us. Please News and Entertainment never sleep!
December 31, 201212 yr i eat all kinds of gringofied mex and i want to like chipotle, but it always makes me sick, no doubt because they leave the food open so you can see it and its always barely room temp at best. i usually roll the dice with the mom and pop mexican instead. its good to have the popular chains around, but i would hope e4th does not get overrun with'm. Yeah my hope is now Ari Maron will now turn his attention to some high quality mid range local shops at least (Not the dredgers union prices) So the street can have some diversity
January 1, 201312 yr Lets get back to construction related developments on E. 4th. Restaurant reviews can be put in the restaurant review thread. Thanks, and Happy New Year!
January 8, 201312 yr Does anyone know the name or opening date of the new speakeasy style lounge going in on East 4th?
January 8, 201312 yr Society Lounge...it was supposed to open Fall of 12 but they are still working on it. They have a facebook page and twitter account, but no information regarding when they will open.
January 9, 201312 yr I tried to get as many good pics as possible but was on my cell phone so the reflection was there

January 9, 201312 yr I have a hunch that foot traffic in and out of the Chipotle is going to be pretty high. THis could be the sign for other newer chains that dt Cleveland is worth the investment.
January 9, 201312 yr Agreed! I believe I read passing by the max occupancy is in the 40's, so there won't be much room for dining in.
January 9, 201312 yr I have a feeling it'll be jam packed. I thought it was going to be bigger but hey maybe the success of this will show others what can be done in DT. how is the subway doing by the casino?
January 9, 201312 yr Communal tables sounds like the cool way of saying cafeteria style seating. Not a fan. I am very happy to see Chipotle moving in here though.. I'm sure it'll be packed.
January 10, 201312 yr Regarding the foot traffic, I can guarantee my two feet will be there once a week. Assuming the quality is on par with a typical Chipotle and the price isn't ridiculous for a DT location.
January 10, 201312 yr Tip: put the cameraphone right up against the window. Thanks i'll do that next time

January 10, 201312 yr I have noted huge service differences at different Chipotle locations, but consistent tastes across the board. Are downtown CLE chain locations with same owners (in this case chipotle corporate) usually more expensive than suburbs, like in most bigger cities?
January 16, 201312 yr "The Lofts at Rosetta" start pre-leasing tomorrow: "Choose from studio, one and two bedroom units, ranging between $715 and $1,635 per month with a variety of floor plans. These beautiful units feature designer wood plank flooring, fully equipped high efficiency kitchens, great city views and much more. We are now pre-leasing units for move in between March and September" http://www.east4thstreet.com/live/the-lofts-at-rosetta-center
January 23, 201312 yr Chipotle opens today. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2013/01/23/chipotle-downtown-opens-today
January 23, 201312 yr ^ I thought they had a sign that stated tomorrow on their door. Maybe this is their soft open so that tomorrow the workers are somewhat prepared.
January 23, 201312 yr Alert: Pure speculation ahead :Alert The "Family Sprotswear Store" on Prospect has a going out of business sale going on. If hey are being forced to move could this mean that the strip of buldings there, for the Goldfish building to hopefully the little parking lot next to Harry Buffalo, are ready to be redone?? Hopefully the Maron's purchased these. I would hate for the casino garage to get even bigger.

January 23, 201312 yr ^ Interesting. Doesn't Weston own a bunch of surface parking in the warehouse district? They don't exactly have a history of redevelopment around here do they? I still get pissed off when I see the Columbia building still on google street view. No more god damn parking.

January 28, 201312 yr If memory serves, Stark Enterprises entered into a option with Weston to build on their lots in the Warehouse District around 2006. When that option expired, Stark wanted to renew but Weston didn't because they wanted to do the redevelopment themselves. There were even renderings floating around. And I think they're still interested in building on their Warehouse District lots if the right offer comes around and/or if they can get funding. Overall, I think 300 Prospect now being in their hands is a good thing and increases the chance of redevelopment.
January 28, 201312 yr ^I think KJP would have the scoop on all of that... he did much of the initial reporting for Pesht. Too bad... personally I would have preferred even a first phase of Pesht over demolishing much of the historic East Bank. And who knows how many years we'll have to wait for the redevelopment of those lots? I guess time (what is it now, four decades and counting since demos began in the WHD for parking for the Justice Center?) will tell. I know I got way off topic but I doubt Westin will redevelop the lot, and if they do, I doubt it's anytime soon.
January 28, 201312 yr ^I think KJP would have the scoop on all of that... he did much of the initial reporting for Pesht. Thanks, but I haven't covered downtown news in about four years. I am not privy to what is going on behind the scenes. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

February 3, 201312 yr Cross posted from "Gateway District" thread: Colossal Cupcakes' new signage! WHOA 6-foot tall cupcake sign tops Colossal Cupcakes store in downtown Cleveland By: Mike Waterhouse, newsnet5.com CLEVELAND - After Friday’s massive storefront addition, it’s going to be hard to miss a downtown Cleveland cupcake store. Colossal Cupcakes, located on Euclid Avenue near East 6th Street, added a 6-foot tall cupcake as a part of the company’s signage. February 3, 201312 yr Also, I don't know if anyone noticed this about Chipotle: "Chipotle, a national chain, will be open standard Chipotle hours – 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week. Other chain restaurants in the area – including Jimmy John’s, Potbelly Sandwich Shop and Zoup! – close early evening and are not open on Sundays." http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/chipotle-j-gumbos-restaurants-open-on-euclid-avenue-in-downtown-cleveland

February 3, 201312 yr I noticed the Chipotle hours as well. Fingers crossed they stay that way! Also, maybe I'm just cupcake picky, but I wish Colossal Cupcakes would spend more money on good employees and recipe development instead of giant signage. They're not remotely close to being on the same level as A Cookie and A Cupcake in Tremont, but I want them so badly to succeed!
February 4, 201312 yr I doubt Westin will redevelop the lot, and if they do, I doubt it's anytime soon. Why do you say that? They proposed new headquarters for Cuyahoga County on one of the lots just a few months ago. So I think that shows Weston has development on their mind and that's good news for the building they bought near East 4th and Prospect.

February 5, 201312 yr As a Rosetta employee, I'm upset I'll be at a happy hour (along with most of my coworkers). I've been excited to see what they're doing in my building! Surprised this poster hasn't been posted around our office.
February 6, 201312 yr I figured the Rosetta employees were the big reason for the push to have residential in the same building!
February 6, 201312 yr Good news here! And I thought there were only supposed to be 80 some units, but she said in the tour and in this interview 97. According to Oliver, downtown occupancy is 97 percent, a rate Oliver said is unheard of in major cities. The Lofts at Rosetta Center at Euclid avenue at East Sixth will bring 97 units into the mix of the more than 4,000 apartments downtown. “We’ve been pre-leasing for two weeks and we’re already through so many spaces that we’re thinking what’s going to be the next project.” http://www.newsnet5.com//dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/hard-hat-tours-demand-for-apartments-in-downtown-cleveland-is-high
February 6, 201312 yr “We’ve been pre-leasing for two weeks and we’re already through so many spaces that we’re thinking what’s going to be the next project.” How about building on the parking lot on Euclid between 668 and the City Club? Or putting the tower on top of 515 Euclid? Or converting the upper floors of the "5th Street Arcades" to apartments?? Or putting the tower on top of 515 Euclid? Or converting the upper floors of the "5th Street Arcades" to apartments?? I could see the last thing happening. I think I remember the article about the Volk Building purchase mentioning the purchase setting MRN up right next to the Colonial Arcades. Why guess when you have google! From the article... "The two-story building contains just 10,000 square feet of office and retail space, but it extends MRN's interests next to the Prospect side of Colonial Marketplace, a hotel-retail complex. MRN's Block Building already abuts Colonial Marketplace on the block's opposite end on Euclid Avenue."
February 6, 201312 yr I figured the Rosetta employees were the big reason for the push to have residential in the same building! Some tried to call yesterday to reserve spots for the group tour, but it was sold out!

February 6, 201312 yr It's already hotel. What's the impetus to see it changed from one useful function to another? Are we running short of vacant buildings and vacant lots? I think not.
