This isn’t a huge building and it’s a very busy area so I hope they can get this one done pretty quickly.

It would be sad to lose that building, but a 1 story just doesn’t work in that area anymore.

Quick update on the Greenhouse site.

One crane comes down (Gravity 2), another crane goes up (Parkside on Pearl). That seems to be a recurring theme around here nowadays and I'm greatly enjoying it.

And it’s up.

Looks like the SN is getting another large-scale mural.

The Short North Alliance & 800 N High have filed an application for a large painted mural on the south wall of the Moxy, overlooking the Eagle patio. I am personally insanely excited to see another huge mural in the city and SN... BONUS, it isn't vinyl!

The artist is local artist Stephen Davis and it'll be title "The Heart of Columbus".

Looks like they just had this artist paint this mural on the wood planks next to Hyde Park. Such a shame in my opinion. Short North makes me so mad with their conservative approach to the art they allow.

I'm confused, they didn't paint the mural on the side of the Moxy like application said?

Nope looks like they just had the artist paint it with the other murals over there by the cap. Honestly I’m not even surprised they flaked on the plan.

Parkside on Pearl is exactly what I wish would be going in the check cashing place lot.

Has there been any talk about what will replace the family dollar. I’m shocked that is still sitting there vacant.

Yeah hopefully that gets replaced soon. The people that own it have owned it since 1985. They have a strange collection of properties, including the West Banco building on Henderson, a Bridgestone tire, the entire complex that weilands is in, a post office and a residential condo unit.

hopefully they plan on selling and won’t try to develop it themselves. The company name is Suburban Centers Inc.

It’s super surprising to me there’s not even been some sort of proposal, attempt to open a new business there, anything. It’s been over five years since the Family Dollar closed, and nothing. Very weird.

Stop! lol.  When AARP starts sending you stuff, then you can feel old. I remember when I started getting that stuff(unsolicited). It was...well...unsettling. hahaha.  *I bet I am the oldest person on here-especially if we include lifelong Columbusites/Central Ohioans.

OT...we need multiple Parkside-on-Pearl projects in many nooks in crannies of the older parts of the city. And I remember the shudder I felt when I learned about the owners of the place being "Suburban Centers".  Yikes they need to sell.

Ugh, so much of that suburban crap in Central Ohio could be redone in some way, like what the did with the old Kroger at Ackerman and Olentangy, or something like that. I need them to sell that site on High in Clintonville as well.

Strangely enough, I don't believe Kaufman has ever used a tower crane until recently with Gravity 2. I really do not know why but neither 250 High nor 80 on the Commons used tower cranes, they both used crawlers. Kind of interesting.

This is off-topic but whatever, I have a gear to grind!  I noticed they added a flagpole on the southern side of the Rhodes Tower and light it up at night.  It looks cheap and aesthetically unbalanced, even for the Rhodes Tower.  Tear that flagpole down!!!

A self-erecting tower crane is in place now at Greenhouse. I’m guessing the operator maneuvers it remotely?

That's pretty cool. I've always wondered what these tower crane operators do if an emergency bowel movement comes knocking. Imagine climbing down a 400ft ladder or narrow staircase in that situation? Now they can operate cranes right from the toilet!

I had a roof put on a couple months ago and the shingles came on a remotely operated crane truck. The driver got out and lifted the shingles onto the roof using a similar transmitter to what you'd use to fly an R/C airplane.

Nothing like a proposal for a new 10-story tower in the Short North to give us all a merry Xmas!

As proposed to the Italian Village commission, it would replace the building that housed the Garden, and it would replace the small surface parking lot for Stonewall Columbus. It would contain a mix of ground floor retail, 60 apartment units, and a 3 level parking structure with 60 spots. It sounds like it’s in partnership with Stonewall, and the tenth floor would include a wellness center open to their members and the public.

Yeah I remembered that being posted on here before. I hadn’t realized there was a proposal back in 2017 to redevelop the site, though. From those meeting minutes, it sounds like the IV commission back then was really opposed to demoing the Garden building. Wonder if the developers will run into similar opposition now? I really like how this rendering looks.

I wonder if the commission will take issue with the facade. It's rather unremarkable but it is unique in that there aren't any other tiles ones like that I can recall. They made a similar argument about the Stonewall facade. Yes it's plain, but it's not replicated elsewhere.

It should be an easy fix and honestly I think that would look better than the jagged street front. I think that zigzag is the only thing I dont really like about it.

It looks ok.

I like the angled facades above but agree with @DTCL11that it looks odd at the ground level

If they preserve the existing 1-story tile base and keep the rest of it as proposed I think it's a winner

From what I know JBAD seems to like to work with angles. It's definitely unique!

Keep the Garden facade, otherwise, it's probably okay.
