As you say, Columbus Underground did their last construction roundup in November which was not that long ago. I’m sure there will be another one soon once spring comes. Who wants to go out in the middle of winter and photograph 40 buildings under construction? lol It can be done from a car, trust me haha.. but they used to do it monthly, which was very popular content for them and 4 months is a third of the year so that is a long time and a lot of things have happened since.

Thanks for the update. I had no idea they were going all the way to 9th Ave. Gonna be a mess, but hopefully worth it. Quick, someone tell the powers that be to buy the check cash place and start building something on it so they don't have to re-destroy the sidewalk when this inevitably happens one year from now. Edit: Also, are there plans to widen the sidewalk by the university? It feels so narrow on the east side of High.... Edited March 27, 20196 yr by Zyrokai

March 27, 20196 yr I guess I'm referring north of 9th Ave across from the university, my bad. Tons of people, narrow sidewalk, terrifying cars and buses speeding by literally a foot away from me. Any plans for this? I guess it's not included in this plan, but maybe another one?

Tons of people, narrow sidewalk, terrifying cars and buses speeding by literally a foot away from me. Any plans for this? I guess it's not included in this plan, but maybe another one? Unfortunately I don't think there's any room to widen the sidewalk there. High St is already only 50' wide (five 10' lanes). Most of the gains in sidewalk width in the Short North are where there was the extra northbound lane or where lanes were wider than 10'. From what I recall the city was going to narrow the parking lane as well in the Short North but COTA asked they keep it at 10' for their bus stops.
March 27, 20196 yr I mean, aren't there two traveling lanes in each direction there? We reduced it to one travel lane each direction in the Short North, why not here? There's already no street parking here. Is traffic substantially higher here than to the south? Just seems odd. Where there's a will, there's a way. I think the width of those sidewalks are pretty unacceptable and there's a way to fix it if we wanted to. Edit: This wasn't meant to be mean, if it came across that way. Also, I realized I might be derailing the thread a bit since this isn't the University District thread, so I apologize. Edited March 27, 20196 yr by Zyrokai
April 2, 20196 yr There's an excavator typically used in building demo in the parking lot of the former Yoga on High building. Perhaps this project is starting soon?
April 2, 20196 yr 1 hour ago, Pablo said: There's an excavator typically used in building demo in the parking lot of the former Yoga on High building. Perhaps this project is starting soon? Ooohhh very interesting. I rode my bike through that parking lot just yesterday and it wasn't there. But I also know that they're starting the next phase of the High Street streetscaping this week so it could be for that. Hopefully it's both! I was wondering if that project was still alive and well or not.
April 2, 20196 yr This excavator had a cage around the operator's compartment to provide protection from falling debris which made me think it was for building demo and not just roadwork.
April 2, 20196 yr The demo permit for Yoga on High was issued on 3/21 and all their building permits are issued so this is likely the beginning of construction for the project and not the next phase of the High Street improvement project.
April 2, 20196 yr The city's High St streetscape email update had this note last week, so it is probably for the building project: Quote 1077-1081 NORTH HIGH Workers are expected to begin to set up equipment in this area soon.

April 5, 20196 yr With new parking policy in place, Short North braces for first warm-weather Gallery Hop The first sunny and warm Gallery Hop of 2019 will take place Saturday, and that means two things to Betsy Pandora: more people and less parking. Pandora is the executive director of Short North Alliance, which oversees the exploding stretch of buildings along High Street that has hosted the monthly event in Columbus for 35 years. She said that on an average weekend, around 10,000 patrons attend Gallery Hop, and that with spring weather in the forecast, it might be even more this weekend. The popular New York-based burger chain hasn’t yet opened its first Central Ohio restaurant, but already has a second in the works. It is slated to be part of the Graduate Hotel project at 750 N. Shake Shack has not yet commented on the plan, while Chicago-based AJ Capital Partners, owners of the property and operators of the hotel chain, declined to comment. April 11, 20196 yr A few recent pics I was able to snag recently strolling through the neighborhood recently. I've peaked in at the 711 N High Building for the new Del Mar restaurant, and I must admit the space looks amazing!! Very excited to see Cameron Mitchell's take on Southern California dining as well as the rooftop bar/lounge. I'm also liking the exterior lighting taking place. The Graduate Hotel (former Bollinger tower) window expansion and front addition is also very much along. News of another Shake Shack is going into this space, along with a coffee shop. I'm pretty sure they are going to be putting another rooftop feature/space onto this building as well. And a random view from the back of the new Moxy Hotel progress. Crazy to think these 3 projects alone will add 3 rooftop experiences to the area.....next thing you know they'll be connecting them by zip line!!! (kidding of course) A friend of mine who moved here from New York City about 8 years ago for work but has spent much time in and about the East Coast cities, felt that the vibe of the Short North is very much starting to trend towards the U Street District in Washington DC. April 11, 20196 yr Cool pictures, thanks for sharing. Really loving what they're doing to Bollinger Tower. Bigger windows looks SO much better than the prison windows that were there before, lol. Also, they completely destroyed the new (!!!) sidewalk that was put in right in front of it. I'm hoping that when they repair it, they keep it uniform to the color/texture of what they spent all last year putting in, lol. And what's funny is that the new sidewalk in front of the Moxy Hotel looks completely fine (albeit covered with wood slate things). Wonder why one was able to be protected and the other one destroyed during construction, ha. Just thinking out loud. I'm sure there are reasons.

April 12, 20196 yr Has there been any word on a tenant for the old RAM Restaurant? I have noticed in passing that some demo work has been occurring on the lower level bar. the only other assumption i had was that they sold some of the brewing equipment and required some demo to get it removed.
April 12, 20196 yr ^^^ Like actually removing part of the walls to outside? Yeesh.......I really like the building and liked RAM upstairs. I can't believe nothing has moved in yet. It's a neat space. Also, yesterday I noticed that Delmar restaurant (I think?) is open on the lower level of the new Lincoln Building. Didn't even know that was close to opening. Is that building largely done, then? Inside on the upper levels looks like they are incomplete, though.
April 12, 20196 yr Indoor demo -- no exterior walls being removed. The lower level bar looks to be almost completely disassembled. I agree, it is such a cool two story space with rooftop patio. I think another brewery/restaurant is destined for the spot due to the set up. I thought maybe Watershed could bring their restaurant there and be successful.. I am sure the rent is crazy which leads me to believe the Donatos/black brick concept wont be around much longer. I never actually see the place buzzing. Zest may be the only spot to survive.

I believe Donatos owns and developed the building, I think they and Black Brick are probably sticking around in that spot. However it is confusing that the old RAM spot hasn't been snatched up yet, it's quite possibly one of the most prime locations in the SN.
April 12, 20196 yr So regarding RAM, there has been no official announcement about specifics, however they are removing all the tanks and brewing equipment. Someone peaked through the windows and tried to take some pics of the blueprints laying out hahahaha From what I can tell, the one page looks to be the 2nd floor layout. Looks to possibly be some sort of club/lounge based on the seating and what not. Time will tell, I'm sure we will all know very soon.
