August 13, 20195 yr https://www.columbusunderground.com/work-begins-on-second-phase-of-pizzutis-the-sutton-we1 The second of two new buildings at the Short North intersection of First Avenue and High Street is under way. Known as “The Residences at The Sutton,” this six-story building will be the residential compliment to the four-story “The Offices at The Sutton” building on the corner. The Offices at The Sutton (shown below) has already announced one office and one retail tenant. Coworking chain Industrious has signed 30,000 square feet of office space on the second and third floors, while men’s clothing chain Bonobos will operate a 1,500 square foot boutique on the ground floor. The office building also includes an underground parking garage. The six-story residential building - under construction along First Avenue immediately west of the four-story office building at the corner of First & High - will contain 100 luxury one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartment units and a 123-space parking garage. Amenities include a 2,000 square foot rooftop deck and an on-site fitness center. Below is a rendering of the two buildings looking north from First Avenue:
August 13, 20195 yr I have to say, this project so far has turned out amazing.... I think it may be one of the best quality developments we've seen lately. Pizzuti seems to be pushing up there with Wood Cos and that is a good place to be.
August 13, 20195 yr ^^^^Totally agree. The building looks amazing from High Street. I just love looking at it.
August 13, 20195 yr The parking lot for Equitas and the check cashing place on has signs up now for no customer parking. I asked Equitas and they said their lease with the owner of the lot has ended and not renewed because they plan to build something on the site. We should expect to some sort of project materialize for the site soon which is great news.
August 14, 20195 yr ^^^^ I noticed this as well. Is it *just* the parking lot next to Equitas or is that abandoned dollar store also going? The way it looked from the other side of the street was that the building wasn't a part of either the construction going on to the south of it, or the fenced in parking lot of Equitas to the north of it and I was like ? I just want that building to go, lol. I didn't notice anything about the check cashing place! That's awesome to hear.
August 14, 20195 yr Lots of movement and construction going on inside the former RAM Restaurant space.

The family dollar lot is being leased as staging for the Corso project at the former Yoga On High parcel. Once that is complete, I am sure it wont be long until the family dollar store is redeveloped. That being said, I am hoping the parking lot owner also owns the Check Cashing building and chooses to end that lease as well. Fingers crossed!
August 15, 20195 yr I actually saw the check cashing place this morning when I was going to work on the bus, and I didn't see its parking lot closed of like it was described. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks for the Family Dollar info! Staging means a spot for the construction stuff, right?

September 6, 20195 yr The Graduate project is nearly complete. The patio for the Shake Shack was full - beautiful weather! I really love the murals.
September 6, 20195 yr Shake Shack opened in the ground level of the Graduate Hotel that's been under construction/renovation at 750 N. High Street on Wednesday - posted at https://forum.urbanohio.com/topic/682-columbus-restaurant-news-amp-info/?do=findComment&comment=909139 in the Columbus Restaurants thread along with an exterior and interior slideshow link. Today, the 171-room Graduate Hotel is opening. A few blocks north, the Moxy Hotel is scheduled to open in October. They need to do some serious clean up while they continue to work towards project completion. Also not too pleased with the co go bike share being placed on the side walk as opposed to along bollinger or within a dedicated zone on the road. Its a bit narrow.
September 16, 20195 yr ^I think it's a punch list item. I noticed all the letters were removed Friday.

Haha, funny you say that about the CoGo station because kind of feel the opposite. I was trying out Shake Shack on Sunday and noticed the CoGo station and really liked the vibe it gave the sidewalk and area in general. One of those infrastructure quirks that I felt added to the "bustle" and urban experience along that stretch. Different stokes for different folks I guess.
September 16, 20195 yr Great call out! -- it felt narrow for an area that was once vast but I can completely understand your view on adding to the "bustle". I feel that placing the docks in a dedicated zone on the road would add to the urban bustle while improving the foot traffic.

Wait....This is my first time hearing about such a thing and a "punch list item". Why would this be intentional? Is that "shadow" of the letters that was mentioned also part of this? I'm having trouble understanding why this would be, lol.
September 16, 20195 yr Looks like there's sealant missing between the two wall panels. Maybe the letters were the wrong font? Or maybe the sign was vandalized.

September 19, 20195 yr ^^^ Yeah that makes sense but.....why would removing the letters be a part of that? Not important, I guess, but it doesn't make much sense to me.
September 19, 20195 yr I'm loving all the rooftops that are coming online in Columbus, it really is "elevating" the city and adding a great vibe! I'm excited for the new rooftop on the Moxy hotel to open soon, as well as the rooftop on the Canopy hotel. Obviously there will be another rooftop coming with the new Hilton 2.0 tower once completed. Here are just a few pics from Lincoln Social this past weekend. The views North into Victorian Village and more of the Short North are great!! I also love the new rooftop of the Wood Companies building with the infinity pool facing the city!!! Such a great addition!!
September 19, 20195 yr ^ Wow, those views are great! I need to find my way up to one of those rooftops ASAP.

Such a great addition!! I happened to be watching random Instagram stories on the Columbus location feed last weekend. The Monat conference was in town and it seemed like Lincoln Social was a "must see" for people at the conference. It was interesting seeing a story from somebody from California saying they felt like they were at home in LA with the great night view of the skyline and High St(which looks really cool at night with the new lighting)from up there. This will only get better as more of those rooftop bars open. We are slowly going to change the perception of Ohio as more people visit for conferences.

September 27, 20195 yr Gotcha. There are other co-working spaces in the SN as well, right? Off topic: I don't really know or understand co-working spaces. Is it basically for freelance workers? Is that what it means?

Is it basically for freelance workers? Is that what it means? Yeah, there are a few there and scattered around Downtown with Serendipity Labs and Versa being the most prominent. WeWork was a bit bigger deal because they're one of the largest ones in the country and actually isn't in any other Ohio cities. I know they are already taking reservations though for space and have sold out some options so I think the Columbus one may still have a chance at opening. Co-Working is handled in a few different ways, in terms of WeWork, it'd dedicated desk or office or multi-desk office space for anyone that wants/needs it. Typically it's used by people who have small independent digital businesses, are freelancers, or start-ups that, while needing a mailing address and dedicated office space, may not be in a position to secure a lease of their for either growth, financial, or location reasons. There are some companies that will rent out space as well or meetings, or if they have outgrown their offices and just need a little extra space. Plenty of reasons really, the benefit really is that it puts people in a creative office environment at a fraction of the cost, with flexibility to grow or contract without the downsides of a traditional lease. Additionally these spaces are often in the CBD or places like the SN, giving a new wave of life to older structures that many have traditionally been single occupant buildings. However, I also read this online: "WeWork forms a subsidiary to represent each lease deal, which means individual locations could fold without leaving the company itself with much risk. The parent company only guarantees the lease for about six to 12 months on a 15-year agreement, according to documents associated with WeWork’s inaugural bond offering" Which paints a less rosy picture. Theres also a chance WeWork capsizes altogether, although I imagine whoever buys up the pieces might have to honor the existing leases.

Same thing happened at OSU when they first installed their new monument signs at Lane and Tuttle Park. They started with individual pin-mounted letters but it seemed they were replacing letters weekly and they finally gave up and installed a large single-piece sign. My guess is the same will happen here, sadly, small marquees like this look good but if they're anywhere within reach, they're going to be vandalized.
