Apparently there is a new Dayton online portal.  I sort of like their mission statement:

DaytonMostMetro

Our Mission

Create a community portal that will EDUCATE current  & future Dayton metropolitan residents about events and initiatives in the downtown  & urban neighborhoods of Dayton, OH.

GENERATE enthusiasm and energy with others that are working to make a positive contribution to our community.

PROMOTE a positive self-image for citizens throughout Greater Dayton

As a Downtown Dayton technology business (ResConnex, Inc.) owned and operated by Downtown Dayton residents, we want to show everybody out there that Dayton has many living and entertainment options.  There are many people like us that are equally as enthusiastic about the future of Downtown Dayton and nearby Historic Districts, and we plan to highlight the efforts being made by those dedicated to the vitality of our urban communities.

If you are a fellow urban dweller, a curious suburbanite or even an out-of-town visitor, we hope that you will find Dayton MostMetro.com a valuable resource.  Our goal is for you to tour our site and find a Metro Place you might then visit for the first time, find a Metro Event you might then attend, or read about the positive news & developments that are happening here and begin to spend more time in our urban core.  Who knows, if you're like us and enjoy the walkability, diversity, and independent spirit we have here - you may even decide to LIVE here!

Dayton MostMetro.com will be in continous development, so check back often to see what is new.  New Metro Places and Events will be added on a daily basis (if you see something missing, let us know).  And in the coming weeks we'll be adding things like a customizable My Metro Events Calendar and an Interactive Metro Pedometer where you can track the miles you walk/jog/bike through downtown and along the river trails - just to name a few. We want to make this YOUR MostMetro.com - so tell us what you think and let us know your suggestions.

Thank you for visiting, and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

All of us at MostMetro.com

Reading the site (there are some blogs and messages as well as a calendar), it seems to have similar interests as the folks here at Urban Ohio.  Interesting to see this popping up for Dayton.

Reminds me of ColumbusRetroMetro in it's layout (probably because they both use typepad). Very nice site, wish it existed before I went to have a better idea of the city's layout.

Hello all - I'm glad you guys have discovered Dayton MostMetro.com.  I won't spend too much time explaining what we are trying to do (lot's of places on the site that will do the explaining), but briefly -  my wife and I moved to Downtown Dayton 3 years ago from Washington Township (probably not far from you, Jeff!) and since doing so, we have loved living downtown but have been disappointed by the constant negative media, false perceptions of how dangerous it is here, and the comments that there is nothing to do here and our downtown is "dead or dying".  Though Downtown Dayton certainly has its challenges (what downtown doesn't?), there are plenty of positive assets here to encourage growth and investment. What we need is PEOPLE!  People that will invest their time, spending money, and hopefully emotions in our downtown and urban neighborhoods.  Dayton MostMetro.com aims to show people in a more visual and interactive way all of the different places to go here, events to participate in, and news about positive things going on here that you may not see in the newspaper.

For those of you that have seen Columbus RetroMetro and see a similarity - you are not crazy.  We actually had the pleasure of getting to know Paul Bonneville (RetroMetro creator) while spending time in Columbus over the past year.  His site and his passion for his city and urban revitalization inspired us to do a similiar project for Dayton.

So check out our site and let us know what you think.  We're busy adding new functionality, so new things are just around the bend.  And we'll definitely have a link to Urban Ohio - it is nice to see that there are so many others that feel the same way about urban development as we do.

Thanks for the support!

Bill -

Excellent site!  I commend you and your wife on your commitment to downtown Dayton and taking it a taking it a step further by creating a great website to promote the city.  One only needs to read the comments posted on the Dayton Daily News website to see that a website like this is very much needed, as it seems that the negativity and problems are the only things to get attention (especially by suburbanites).  It's good to see someone doing some educating and promoting for a change!  Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing what you all have in store for the site.

It is great to hear the words of encouragement - thanks again!

One other thing I'd like to mention about our site (if I may) that you fellow urban advocates will appreciate is the google map functionality that we use to show venues (Metro Places) that are within walking distance to one another - along with their actual distance.  We figured out how to use Longitude and Latitude with a distance formula and applied it here.

One of the things we love about living downtown is being able to walk everywhere - and hopefully our site will show exactly how easy it is to actually walk.

Cheers,

Bill

Yes, I do like those online maps at the site, especially how you delinate the various neighborhoods around downtown.
