Posted October 17, 200618 yr in case you didn't think the classic nyc punk rock palace cbgb's could look worse...it could. it closed after it's last show sunday night. it's moving to vegas. it was totally stripped to the bone -- check out it's skeleton today...which i guess is even more "punk" in a way! :-o :banger: http://www.curbed.com/archives/2006/10/16/monday_pm_linkage_cbgb_memorial_edition_.php earlier sunday: Rock star and poet Patti Smith was the final performer at CBGB after the landlord refused to renew its lease.
October 17, 200618 yr So the problems weren't financial, the landlord just didn't want to renew the lease? Why couldn't they just buy the building? The TShirt sales alone should have easily financed that. They make a killing off of those shirts. Or combine that with a few rich musicians as investors. Im sure they'd be down for that. Vegas is a great place for live Entertainment but CBGB is a grassroots-trickle up kind of concept and Vegas doesn't fit that context.

It was house music night and the place would be PACKED and the line out the door. Granted, at this point in time, this part of the village sucked and was dangerous. ahhh....memories
