Went down to Fountain Square yesterday to see things, and get some pictures, mostly for reference, to document this in-between phase, but also because I had a hard time picturing where a lot of the stuff we've been discussing is...anyway, without further ado...

I love it!!  The most trusted name in news!

That video board will look even better once that condo tower is built at 5th and Race...and provides a great backdrop for the board! :-D

Those trees are sorely needed, the square looks stark without them.

Here's a video (might be easiest to right-click and Save As, since it's 10M) that I took of the square last night - I just stood in one spot and turned a circle, trying to go slowly and keep still...sorry if it's shakey, but you can always pause it if you need!

Agreed.

But great shots, RiverViewer!

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

looks good aside from the building on the north side.  It reminds me of a scaled down version of Union Square here in SF.

Oh, and it's great that they're showing cnn and not fox news or similar.  Closed captioning would help, or is there audio?

There's audio - pretty strong audio, actually.  I don't know how good it would be if the place were packed, but you could definitely hear the news when I was there.

Ah, I was really non-pleased by most of them - I do not like the focus on my new Canon PowerShot A620 - but a few with the fountain came out not too bad...I think the time has come to get a real camera, but that's gonna wait a couple years...anyway, the point was more to document what it looks like right now, not to present a cool photo thread...but thank you for the kind words!

Actually I was referring to the company NAME on the board!  LOL.  I love it when other people help pay my bills!

...and let's all be on the lookout for that scurrilous, tax-dodging scofflaw Wesley Snipes!

Cool!  It looks much better already.

thx for this. i was wondering whats going on.

how did you do the pano? is it several shots stitched together or one shot? it's very nice, looks seamless.

Thank you!  Actually, it's not a pano at all - I just cropped out of a larger picture.  Here's the original shot:

It was an 8 second exposure, f/8...so I just cropped out the top and the bottom and ended up leaving the rest right around the original size...I was really lucky that nothing happened to reflect in window in the city-part during those eight seconds like it did above the city...

i dont care what anybody says...i think that the changes...no matter how subtle they may be...have already gone a long way.  one more than anything as i think i might has said one hundred times was taking down the skywalk over 5th street connecting to the Westin.  it will be neat to have that unimpeded vista down fith street toward the more substantial towers as well as creating some cohesion between the revovations at government square and fountain square.  i think the pavilion building will look pretty sharp if the elevator lobbies are any indication.  and the place will have an entirely different feel once 5th third and the threes are in place.  cool shots too...i really like the one with the lady and the carew

5/3 should do something with their air-rights on fountain place and encourage development.

Probably could not support too much office space but they could add a parking deck on top of Macy's with a hotel (afterall we have an expanded convention center) and maybe some luxury condos overlooking the square.

I know it is a pipe dream and highly unlikley but hey it is nice to dream.

I absolutely cannot stand the light towers on the square.  Why couldn't they have made those temporary.  They interfere with the view of the fountain.  Maybe they will look better with the trees.

They probably will look better with the trees - they probably won't stand out so much.

Thanks for the photo Riverviewer! Thank god they don't show Faux News.

^oh geez
