I don't know if this was ever mentioned here, and I haven't found anything from searching the forum on the subject, so...

It's interesting to think what would have been lost if they had actually built this.

EDIT: Oops!  I meant to post this in the Abandoned Projects subforum.  Sorry.

I'd never heard of this before. We were so eager to demolish what we had already built. We still are to a lesser degree. But back then, demolition seemed to be the order of the day. I like the transit line though, and one proposal was close to being built. It would been routed up Cedar Hill, to Euclid Heights Blvd, Coventry, then generally east along Mayfield or just south of it into Severance Center. The reason it wasn't built is because Cleveland Heights thought the $16 million cost was too much.

i dunno, granted i think that thing looks like its straight out of communism, it would have been a nice high density TOD.  something cleveland lacks other than perhaps tower city.  i wonder how tall that would have been??  would that be downtown heights??  heh

Hey, it would fit right in with the Revolution Books store on Mayfield. :)

This project reminded me of a larger version of Lakewood's ill-fated West End project.  Granted, the apartment blocks and single homes they wanted to get rid of are nothing close to Coventry Village, it's sad how civic attitudes toward percieved blight hasn't really changed in 37 years.

to bad the train wasn't built.

Funny, in another thread i was just saying how severance took the affluent shopper from downtown and this article proves Severance was the first poison pill for Cleveland downtown shopping.

The issue in Lakewood was much different.

yeah, bummer about the transit, but the rest was crap.  there's still a great opportunity for development at the intersection of Cedar & Euclid Heights, though.  Has anyone heard anything in recent years about that spot?

There should be a light rail connection between UC Red Line Station and atleast Severance or Warrensville

wowza, i learned something today.
