Posted October 26, 200618 yr Cincy-Rise, Kendall & I ate at Washington Platform for dinner. The meal there was fantastic as usual (I recommend the Apple Walnut Chicken) and after dinner Cincy-Rise and myself went out to photograph the Queen City on a gorgeous night. While my photo threads have been MIA lately, I thought these were worthy of a post. To start the thread off, the Lady at her new location: "Miss Genius of Water"
October 26, 200618 yr They look great, a richer image quality than the D70 and it looks like the highlights blow out less. Doesn't look like you needed to do much in photoshop. I want to see more, esp daytime images to compare. Is this the kit lens, or what lens? My D70 is over 2 years old, now's the time to dump it if I want to get any cash for it, they're still fetching $400 on ebay. I am not as interested in the higher resolution as I am the better image quality, much better viewfinder, perhaps better AF. Everything I'm hearing says it does virtually everything the D200 does sans AIS lenses. We have D2X's at work, they are still going for $3500 used.
October 26, 200618 yr Jake, the viewfinder is amazing and one of the reasons why I chose Nikon over the Canon 30D. Those photos were taken with the "kit" lens (18-135mm) which by itself retails for $400. If you have the money I have read great things about the 18-200mm VR lens but I was very pleased with the 18-135mm.
October 26, 200618 yr The reflection in the last shot is amazing! Great stuff! Mr. Roebling is now on my desktop.

Those photos were taken with the "kit" lens (18-135mm) which by itself retails for $400. I had the 18-70 kit lens that came with the D70 briefly, I was quite surprised by how good it was. Ten years ago the kit zooms were terrible. However, in a photojournalism situation you need the faster lenses, you just can't screw around with those zooms. I am quite suspicious of Ken Rockwell's motivation for promoting the 18-200 ad nauseam, I'm sure it's a decent lens but he's talking like it outperforms and replaces every single other lens. If you are looking for a fantastic and cheap telephoto, the Nikon 180 f/2.8 is unbeatable, it goes for roughly $350-400 used. It smokes the $1500 70-200 VR and is much lighter weight. I guarantee is absolutely stomps on Ken's beloved 18-200. It is about to be discontinued, it has been replaced by the 200mm f/2.0 VR which sells for $4K.

October 26, 200618 yr I liked where the fountain was before, a lot more. It looked great with 3/5rd and the other tall buildings in the background. I think it made a much better composition. Awesome pics though, and the picture quality is insane.
October 27, 200618 yr Damn dude ... these came out great! Mine came out ok, but when you take mine and compare them to yours, they're apples and oranges.
October 27, 200618 yr i was in cincy last night. I was in a maroon saturn. I saw poor people. I was scared.

October 28, 200618 yr heh, I think there is more posts in here about a Saturn then my photos. Prehaps that should tell you something about your photography skills! ;) You know I'm kidding, even Mark Glove! says you have potential.

October 28, 200618 yr Some of the tiles at fountain sq. are messed up--sticking up out of the ground. They really did a half-ass job. Sand leaking down into the garage. They don't light the fountain up at night? I went there last night and it wasn't... It looks so much better when it is.
October 29, 200618 yr heh, I think there is more posts in here about a Saturn then my photos. sorry, lets talk about your mac then.
October 31, 200618 yr Great pics! Although it looks like there may have been some illegal parking on I-75 for a couple of those.
October 31, 200618 yr Yeah, I did wonder if I could get a ticket for pulling off I-75. I had pulled off far enough that I wasn't on pavement anymore. Is that technically illegal?
October 31, 200618 yr If you PARKED, then yes. If you had car troubles, then no. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
