October 17, 20222 yr Great news here... Crews have finally started tearing down the old Woodcliff condo buildings at Hamilton and Broad!
October 31, 20222 yr Already a noticeable difference at Broad and Hamilton! It looks like about ten of the old Woodcliff condo buildings have been demolished so far which leaves roughly 40 more to bring down. It's going to be such a breath of fresh air to get these things out of there!
November 10, 20222 yr Flavor 91 Burger Bistro owners have plans to branch into affordable housing “A Whitehall restauranteur has plans to branch into affordable housing. Abraha is in the first cohort of the Emerging Developers Accelerator Program, or EDAP. The developer plans to add two more storefronts to the Flavor 91 building. February 2, 20232 yr State demo funds make $300M Whitehall redevelopment project possible at Broad Street and Hamilton Road “Whitehall plans to take a wrecking ball to 317 decrepit condominiums at the corner of Broad Street and Hamilton Road this month, making way for a $300 million mixed-use project. February 23, 20232 yr Whitehall razes last of Woodcliff condos, ending 16-year legal fight “Workers started demolishing the last of Woodcliff condominiums in Whitehall on Thursday, bringing a crashing end to a 16-year battle between the city and the condo complex. "Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain and difficulty," said City Manager Zach Woodruff, quoting President Theodore Roosevelt, as an excavator ripped through the roof of a building in the complex, on the northeast corner of East Broad Street and North Hamilton Road. Following the demolition, which is expected to take about 30 days, the city plans to clear the site and install roads and utilities for the project, at an estimated cost of $7 million. The 50-acre site will feature an outdoor amphitheater as well as green space and ponds that blend into the Whitehall Community Park. Woodruff said he expects that to take the rest of the year, allowing construction to start next year on the first phase of the development — 250 apartments in eight or nine buildings, along with about 25,000 square feet of commercial space, with a 2025 opening dated targeted.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/real-estate/2023/02/23/whitehall-condos-demolished-to-make-way-for-300-million-development/69933281007/

February 28, 20232 yr Serious question: For everyone who does not live in Whitehall, is there anything they have over there that gets you to visit the area? I only ask because I've only ever been over there to go to the park and nothing else. This development looks like it could legitimately be a destination to visit and not just a place to live. It's just great to see some of the less talked about suburbs get new developments that may draw people in.

February 28, 20232 yr Whitehall forecasts $4.7B economic impact from massive redevelopment project now underway As local, regional and state officials gathered last week to watch an excavator rip through a dilapidated condo building, there was a sense of new beginnings for the city of Whitehall. The event — attended by officials from the Ohio Department of Development and the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corp. — marked the ceremonial start to what will eventually become a $300 million redevelopment of a major gateway into the city. It's an area that had been blighted for more than 15 years by hundreds of neglected condo units scattered across 154 buildings. But that's changing now. Whitehall has some decent restaurants that are worth the trip, other than that, it doesn’t really offer anything good or unique to people who don’t live in the area. agree with this not matching Bridge Park at all. They should really go for it and try to get as close as possible to bridge park. The parking lots make this 100% the opposite of bridge park and although dense, isn’t a good representation of what dense design should be. it will still be good for the area, and hopefully in the future they will maybe see the benefits of more buildings filling in the lots.

March 10, 20232 yr Whitehall is one of those suburbs that was on equal footing with all the others until the late '80s/early '90s when all the money started getting sucked up into Dublin-Worthington-Westerville. That's why it seems like time stopped then.
