I would say my place is sub-market rates for West LA.  I just got lucky and found a really good landlord who believes in charging what he feels is a fair price, not the maximum he can get away with.

$1,325/mo.

It seems steep, but, the pay scale is quite different out here.  To compare it to Midwest prices is kind of an apples to oranges relationship.

Actually that is kinda low.  I'd be interested to know what your square footage & how many bedrooms you have and if you live alone?

MTS, you've been twisted too much by NYC.  For some reason even though Cali home prices are sky high, rents never really caught up and are still well below the rip-off rates of NYC.

I have a home near LASam, I think I'm south and east of him.  It just sound low to me, I don't know LA's rental market but it looks as though the rental market isn't as bad as the for purchase market.

Oh, that's cute! Sorry for the lack of a better adjective. Sometimes it just works :)

I live in a bachelor pad. It could use a few more girls, though ;)

JamieC thats a BEAUTIFUL building!

Yeah, I love the interior space, which is why I've been very hesitant to move out. I enjoy this neighborhood in Lakewood. The density is unlike any place I've seen in the area. Out my window, I get to see squirrels and birds and at night, the giant condo towers are lit up, which is quite pretty. It's really very nice, especially in the summer.

MTS,

I measured out my place and it's 672 Sqft.

oh, your neighbors must love you

You live about a block and a half from me. A friend of mine used to live there.

I live alone in an overpriced 800 SF 1 bedroom apartment in Harlem USA

Here are a few pics from my crib.  Some of these pics are from my failed attempted to get on that DIY trash to treasure show as all the stuff in my bedroom & office was either found on the lawns, in thrash, or in a thrift store...that includes Aunree.  :-D

Thanks.  I repainted that like seven times, I kept messing up, that was the hardest paint job Ive ever done. after that I said I would never do it again.

Wow, living above Shadeau Breads?  That is so cool!  I would probably weigh about ten pounds more if I lived there.  ;)

I live on the edge of Over-the-Rhine, and across the street from me is considered the Central Business District.  I feel like I have the best of both worlds - OTR is my backyard, and CBD is my front yard.

Wow!

LOVE MTS and Kendall's places. OTR looks like such a neat neighborhood.

Holy crap!!!!!!!  MTS, I need to become your friend!

Ditto!  Great place!  Never thought about Shaker as a place to live, been looking west.

Aunree would need to pre screen you first.  Also, you need to specify what type of "friend" you want to be.  LOL

Thanks but I live in CLEVELAND not Shaker.  Shaker Square is a great hood - check it out.

I figured I'd revive this thread

My friends and I just signed a lease on this glorious 130 year old house in Ann Arbor's 4th ward.  We will collectively pay $36,000 for one year in this place.  Somehow I feel that's about the cost of the house itself.  There will be five of us living here.  In Some ways its a downgrade for me, because I currently live alone in apartment and have 350 sq ft of space all to myself, where in this house, my bedroom is only about 110 sq ft, and it's right off the living room.  But at least this house was entirely remodeled inside last year and has all the amenities like dishwasher, garbage disposal, and laundry, which my current unit lacks.  The outside has fake brick!  Now that's classy.

The house is farthest structure set back on the block.  The street has steep slope, and create a condition where we are the only house with a yard.  The other houses next to us get postage stamp sized back yards.  I like how my rental company tried to make it look all picturesque by not maintaining the front yard and making this thing look like it was built in the forest or something.

The house does have some history to it.  It was the structure that housed Ann Arbor's first organized black church.  All that history has pretty much been lost since the house has had so many renovations since.  The landlord said the only thing original is the structural lumber in the walls.

I was going to say, it doesn't look like it's in the Fourth Ward at all...

Nice buildings!  Fabulous floors and I love those archeo deco style dining chairs!  I'm looking for chairs similar to those!

that place is awesome...esp love that coffee table.

I live in an apartment. Its in an old building, so I have hardwood floors and tiled ceilings(that we had to recently repaste to the ceiling cuase they kept falling) and its cheap, so yay. And there ya go, no pics really.

bump for the newbies

This will be the house my friends and I will have in Clifton Heights as of September. I hate the exterior. Not brick, like all of the amazing 3-4 story Italianate buildings in the neighborhood but rent is 250 a month and I have a lot of friends on the street that I can easily visit so I couldn't care less. Inside is quite nice, and there's 5 off-street parking spaces in the back (hard as hell to get in Clifton Heights, especially for the price).

Which street is that on, David?

Warner!

oo! Nice place David regardless!

Goodness....we are an inquisitive bunch!

I can't believe people pay rent as low as $250.  I mean damn, in comparison to my rent that just I pay personally, it's like having $7000 more a year to do whatever with.  And your house actually looks nice on the outside.

Clifting Blights ..urr..Heights isn't the best neighborhood by any means. It's one neighborhood up from Over the Rhine. Police are on my street constantly. Im asked for money about every day, and offered drugs (including random ass sh!t like Morphine, seriously, who does Morphine?!). The house sold after I had already signed a lease, so I had to sign another one. It's funny, the house sold for 106k and he collects 1300 a month from all of us combined. A few bedrooms are in the basement so though the house is avg, it's still able to be 5bdroom. It's a very good investment, especially with all of the new development going on.

Haha the last time I posted in this thing I lived in an apartment.

Now I live in my own house bitches!

Its an older home near downtown, and every night it makes house sounds lol.

I looked it up in MLS, looks like the landlord got an even better deal.  It closed out at $99k.  I can't believe that area has gotten that bad.  Back in the early 90's I partied a lot on Moerlein.  It was a pretty decent area back then.  I can't believe I've got to the point in my life when I refer to things as "back then".  I just sold a duplex on Clifton Ave. around the corner from there for $48k, but it had no parking at all.  My favorite street over there is Klotter.

I didn't know I had a green thumb until I got my own place.  When I bought the house, all of the major work had been done.  So, I turned to gardening to add my personal touch.

I have evergreens on the front steps and that's it.  Last year I was inspired by MayDay's garden and bought all these plants & flowers.  Every stinkin' plant & flower died.
