September 22, 20213 yr beautiful weather around here lately, so after work i took a walk on the historic highbridge between the bronx and washington hts in manhattan. very nice for the last day of summer!
October 4, 20213 yr The Pulaski Day Parade was back in full swing yesterday after the Covid hiatus of last year. I even had a Curtis Sliwa sighting, but no pic. He was too far away and moved too fast. I guess we'll be seeing enough of him in the upcoming mayoral debates🥴 http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
October 5, 20213 yr ^ i've randomly seen curtis at work as a guardian angel on the subways several times over the years. he gets around!
October 5, 20213 yr ^I know, he's been around forever. I was shocked at how old he looks now. Wait, he's only a little older than me...never mind. He should at least make the debates entertaining. He used to live in the East Village in that building at St. Marks & Ave A that had a pizza place for a long time but now is Starbucks. He now lives in a small apartment in Hell's Kitchen (?) and has a lot of cats. I'm sure the allegations that Eric Adams really lives in New Jersey will come up. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
October 9, 20213 yr I was walking down Prince St. in Soho and spotted Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer being interviewed. Yes, every NYC borough has a "President," although no one is really sure what they do. It's an elected office but separate from the City Council. I believe they have some decision in how funds are allocated and can suggest policy changes. But even though she's been term-limited as of this year, Brewer is no slouch when it comes to remaining in office. Prior to her stint as BP she was in City Council, representing the Upper West Side (from which she had also been term-limited). But you see, according to the rules, she is now free to run for council again, and wouldn't you know it, won the primary this past Spring (despite a roster of half a dozen candidates in her district), and as a Democrat in NYC, basically guarantees her return! You can't make this stuff up. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

October 9, 20213 yr ^actually, compared to most politicians she does come across as more honest and straightforward. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

Jeez that bridge is high. I'm sure I've driven underneath it but you sometimes don't get a good sense of height while driving. I'd be getting dizzy if not have to turn back. Probably have to walk in the middle.

The photo gives the (optical) illusion of a great deal of height.

April 4, 20223 yr yeah i would imagine if they were all real plants it would be way too hard to take care of. maman is a little mini coffeeshop chain around town, but this one is their most over the top.
April 13, 20223 yr a few weeks ago i got an angle you don't see too often manhattan from fort wadsworth, staten island
June 13, 20223 yr from today -- kind of dirty window office view of 345 hudson details -- its a handsome 1931 deco building in downtown manhattan in hudson square -- google is in a lot of it: https://www.hudsonsquareproperties.com/buildings/345-hudson-street/
June 22, 20222 yr Watch this from Beulah Park all the time, it's sweet how at this time of year it looks like it is setting directly across the lake.
June 28, 20222 yr ^ that sunset is really just stunning! 👍 from the staten island ferry -- three skylines for the price of one -- jersey city, manhattan and brooklyn --
June 28, 20222 yr Actually, four. You can see Queens as well (if you squint). "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

August 3, 20222 yr I thought I would wander over to my local National Night Out event yesterday (9th precinct) for a free hamburger (which were not even ready so all I got was a very small bag of Doritos), only to arrive at the very moment two of our local politicians were pontificating with their canned speechifying. On the left is my city council rep, Carlina Rivera, who, you guessed it (!), is in the process of running for Congress in the newly formed 10th District (which was necessary because the New York State Democrats failed to appropriately address the issue of gerrymandering fairly. On a side note, this process combined the districts in which two long time Reps with national stature, Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler, are now in the unenviable position of competing with each other). On the right you have Brian Kavanaugh, who (if he wins and probably will), again by virtue of re-districting, will become my new State Senator (though I'm not entirely sure). All of this will be determined when we have yet another primary Aug. 23 (our second in less than two months). In other words the entire electoral system here is a mess Edited August 3, 20222 yr by eastvillagedon http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
August 3, 20222 yr sounds just like the situation in Ohio except the Republicans here were able to cheat the system and keep their illegally gerrymandered districts without any consequences.
August 29, 20222 yr how's about a nice, summery, lunch snack break of a fancy avocado toast & a glass of wine? fwiw it's at epistrophy on mott st in manhattan --

October 20, 20222 yr ^ Very nice. It’s been a while since I was last there, but I’ve always struggled a bit with Vienna. It’s historic and beautiful, but also boring. My hovercraft is full of eels

October 20, 20222 yr its a work trip -- in his case vienna is important in the artworld over few other places in europe.
October 30, 20222 yr im getting more vienna’d, so … the cool pix of his ‘atelier haus’ workspace are part of a public/private redeveloped area around the train station — pretty interesting to read about this area and austria’s approach: https://www.e-flux.com/architecture/positions/280818/vienna-s-red-herring/
