You should have the entire picture in color...it's kind of creepy looking right now.

^ Cool new avatar Rando. I'm suddenly hungry for some Skyline Chili.

I wish there was still a Skyline in Georgetown KY :(

I want some Uncle Rando right now! Oh... never mind.

One more of the 1980’s black & white’s that I found tucked away in storage.

Cool.

I was just friends a few weeks ago about how things used to look before the redid the flats.

There used to be access to a tunnel I believe ran under the river to the other side.

It was a little to the rght of where the guy in the picture is standing.

I used to be so scared in the winter when driving down St. Claire hill that that I would end up in the river.

It looks like Golden Corral.

Purple Haze: Taken from my balcony, just few minutes ago.

^ Your balcony must be an all right kind of place.

Here's Mount Hood, from a recent westward road trip.

So now I have you to blame for my sudden outburst. I spit tea on my keyboard.

That is a truly fantastic shot!

Splendid view. I can't imagine what it would be like to live someplace like that.

I think Seicer's photo of the Roebling Bridge works best with that streetlight out. Had it been working at full intensity, it would have created a foreground glare that would have washed out a lot of the detail.

^I agree...I think that it would be even better if the second streetlight (on the right) was out as well.  Fantastic shot though seicer...too bad I had to take off early that night.

hah I wondered if you would pick up if it was from that night or not. Too bad it started raining soon after taking the photo, washing away most of the fog.

I was going through some old pics one of my uncles took over his lifetime & thought you guys might like these pics of Chicago from the late 50s.

Maybe someone knows what street it is ?

^ Very cool. Please post if you come across any more.

there's something to be said about the hideousness of 1960s light poles....

... and the Chicago and State - Lake Theatres in the foreground.

The topic of Chicago was breached.

A picture of CNA Plaza I took last weekend.

More Pictures Here.

For some reason the red color of that building disturbs me...especially when viewed with the rest of the skyline.  It just throws things off.

I really like it. It stands out, which is something hard to do in Chicago.

I like it too :)

hydrobond , nice photo thread, you got a picture of my office building!

The tower across from the watertower is the "park hyatt - park tower" building.

the lower portion is the Park Hyatt the the portion right below the crown is the Park Tower Condos.

hydrobond , nice photo thread...

Agreed...that photo of the Millennium Park Concert Pavilion is wonderful.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I was only in Chicago for a couple of hours, and some of that time was spent at Giordano's for some very excellent Chicago pizza.

Parking is way too expensive in that town.

^That's why they have mass transit everywhere buddy :)

^That's why they have mass transit everywhere buddy :)

Finding a park and ride style lot would have been more of a hassle than paying for parking.  I went up with three other friends, so once you take into account the combined price of mass transit for the four of us, parking may have actually been cheaper, at least for the level of convenience a car provides.

Oh, if you're taking a trip to Chicago with four people, you definitely need a car. If nothing else, for the simple fact that the more people you're with, the harder it is to get anything done! Which means you need to get places faster to make up for everyone's bull****ing around! Don't get me started! Stop staring at the artifacts on the Chicago Tribune wall!!! We got stuff to do damnit!

Awe man, 1960's light posts are sweet.  Here's Euclid Avenue's.

^ Awesome!

Nice. They remind me of the lights from the movie Dune.

Not sure why I remember that little detail.

Did they do an underground utility burial around that time? That looks so... uniform and nice, but at the same time, I hate the lights :P At least period-style lighting is making a comeback.

Beautiful. The lighting in that Cleveland shot is perfect!
