April 4, 200817 yr ^Thanks, I took about 7 or 8 of those shots. I'm still learning. I knew the ground was too dark so I took it into Aperture and brightened it up a bit. Aperture is Apple's RAW editing software. The sky was actually almost black with a hint of pink from the sun going down. I like it though.
April 6, 200817 yr This one I like way better than the previous. This is the highway by my house. EXIF: Canon Digital Rebel XTi Aperture:f/5.6 Focal Length: 21mm Exposure Time: 30 seconds ISO Equiv.: 400
April 7, 200817 yr Neat shot. I recognized generally what it was right away (Center Street Bridge with Detroit-Superior (Veterans Memorial) towering overhead, but it took me a minute to figure out that the flood lighted part at bottom is the pivot machinery beneath the Center Street Bridge. The unusual juxtaposition of those two bridges provides quite a few interesting compositions.
April 7, 200817 yr Is that swing bridge still drivable?? Yup, the google maps image actually caught it swung closed, link its there at the intersection of Riverbed and Center, going underneath the superior avenue bridge. (zoom in a lot, it will be obvious) Local Live has it open link
April 7, 200817 yr ^^That's awesome. I really have to get to Cleveland sometime soon, because I know I will have a ball in the Flats.
April 8, 200817 yr ...and since the weather is getting nice, the beautiful cars are emerging from their winter hibernation: I have yet to talk to the owner of this GORGEOUS 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. This was taken last summer at a Mopar Muscle meet in Williamsport.
April 8, 200817 yr Rob_1412 might remember this one Indeed I do. The "Take Back Vermont" sign was in protest of Vermont's legalizing same-sex unions. Some of the indigenous population saw that as symbolic of takeover of their turf by urban liberal outsiders. I saw those signs when I was there in 2000.
April 17, 200817 yr Wow, that is pretty cool. Evergrey, when do you think you'll be in the Williamsport area again?
April 18, 200817 yr Wow, that is pretty cool. Evergrey, when do you think you'll be in the Williamsport area again? That barn is about 15 miles east of State College... in "Penns Valley". When will I be in Williamsport? uhhhh... I have no idea. Definately not this year... but maybe the opportunity will present itself in the more distant future. I'd like to photograph it with my new camera... and there is some architectural splendor there... but who knows... i managed to make it to Renovo last fall (alas, without my camera)... so some random chance could possibly land me in Williamsport
April 18, 200817 yr Florida Guy, the one with the rain covered screen is freaking sweet. The randomness of the rain on the grid is incredible. Pixelated nature.
April 18, 200817 yr Also, when the palm tree doesn't appear when the water droplets stay in the screen, an invisiblity cloak is created. Weird stuff.
April 23, 200817 yr Love that first one, Jake. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 24, 200817 yr Nothing too photographically stunning, but this may be my home for the summer. I'm thinking about renting the apartment above the store with the green canopies in the dark redish brown building. Located in Saginaw, MI. Thought about living a mile north downtown, but government and commercial office buildings bore me.
April 26, 200817 yr I'm still mad my last one received no comments, I thought it was funny. Anywho, Dirigible hooo!
April 26, 200817 yr I'm still mad my last one received no comments, I thought it was funny. Anywho, Dirigible hooo! I thought it was clever and witty! :-D Not every day one gets to see a dirigible. In all my long years, I think I've only seen two -- or maybe it was the same one twice. I'm easily confused, and easily amused.
April 26, 200817 yr I took this outside of a century-old abandoned 8-unit rowhouse building located at East 73rd & Central in Cleveland. I got a little bored waiting for a contractor for a walkthrough, so I started shooting some random flora.
April 26, 200817 yr Downtown Fort Lauderdale from the rooftop of my condo, not bad considering downtown is 4.3 miles away. Lauderdale has come a long way, we actually have a skyline!
April 26, 200817 yr Florida Guy, did you go as far as to jump out onto the caisson in the middle of the water? I always get the perfect shots from there, and the boats come really close. Make the bridge operator nervous.
April 28, 200817 yr and I didn't even know fort lauderdale had a skyline.... It didn't up until about 2004. That year the Los Olas River House (1. 42 story twin towers) was completed, and then a year later the Las Olas Grand was constructed (2. 38 story tower). 2 1
April 28, 200817 yr Did you take this pic from the day of the Clyffside ribbon cutting? It was rainy/overcast that day, but I don't remember anything like this.
May 1, 200817 yr ^Yes. Visibility was about nothing at one point, that storm was as fierce as it was brief. Today I snapped the Delta Queen hauling ass at the steamboat race in Louisville: Here is the Belle of Louisville, which is also steam, returning to port:
May 1, 200817 yr I love real steamboats! standing on an upper deck above the paddle wheel gives a real sense of how much power is being transmitted. Lots of water flying, and pretty noisy. I've ridden the Belle of Louisville on one of its afternoon cruises to New Albany and back. I probably spent half the trip at the bottom of the gangway that goes to the engine room, just watching the machinery. The faux steamboats with their diesel engines and a dummy paddle wheel dragging in the water are so lame by comparison. What's with all the smoke from the Delta Queen? I assumed it would have been converted to oil-fired boilers by now, but it's smoking like a coal burner. I guess even an oil burner can smoke a lot if you crowd it, though.
May 1, 200817 yr This Kodachrome is older than many forumers. I shot it from the Princess Marguerite, returning to Seattle from a day trip to Victoria, BC, in 1982
May 1, 200817 yr Granby, VT 06/05 Rob_1412 might remember this one Rob_1412 might remember this one Indeed I do. The "Take Back Vermont" sign was in protest of Vermont's legalizing same-sex unions. Some of the indigenous population saw that as symbolic of takeover of their turf by urban liberal outsiders. I saw those signs when I was there in 2000. A little late on this one, but as a flatlander who lived in Vermont for a while, I wanted to chime in: The Take Back Vermont signs also popped up in response to the pro-civil unions slogan, "Take Vermont Forward," thereby making the Take Back Vermont signs worth a chuckle. And I have to say, I did not believe a photo could make Vermont look that ugly. You may have found the one non-awe-inducing vantage point in the state (outside of Mud Season)!
May 1, 200817 yr that picture doesn't open. Also, i thought it was preferred that peeps use photobucket or flicker when posting pics.
