I think there already may be a dormant one lying around somewhere.

Ohhh I think we should revive it, if not, make a new one!!! :-)

I bet those girls have tramp stamps.

Nice pic if not for all the trash cluttering up the foreground.

Yeah, Calvin should probably stop stalking underage chicks. God knows how many restraining orders he already has. Pretty soon he's gonna need a GIS class in Athens so he can make 1000 foot buffers on a map to figure out where he's allowed to walk in Toledo

My friend Nicole took this shot in Rocky River Metropark.

I bet those girls have tramp stamps.

I can see one on the yellow chick's ankle.

Hot.

I've seen some dramatic skies along the southern shore of Lake Erie, but nothing to match that!

I don't know if I'm the only guy who picked up on this, but girls with her hairstyle tend to be the sl%ttiest.

Can I come along next time on one of your photo journeys Calvin?

...I saw snow today and didn't like it. :|

It has snowed here about 3 or 4 times already. Tuesday my car doors froze shut while was at work and I actually slipped on some black ice driving up a hill on the way home. I share those feelings, C-Dawg.

Nice shot.

6 bridges.

Thanks musky. I was just about to question number 6, although it doesn't go all the way across, that makes 6.

Btw - Nice black & white posted up thread.

Thanks, I'm just starting to get comfortable again thinking in B&W.

Since switching to digital, I have been focusing more on the nuances of the different cameras.

Very nice. Majestic even. Reminds me of when my 16 yo daughter was younger and I would bring her downtown. She would call all of the buildings Castles.

Gorgeous pic, C-Dawg. Looks like a calendar photo.

Where is this at?

It's at OU in Athens, and if I am not mistaken it was taken from somewhere around the back doors of Morton Hall.

Blast from the past, Morton Hill:

MORTON HILL!

Some of you might remember there were three poles on the hill to keep people from driving on it.  I was walking with my cousin on a campus tour where the tour guide walks backward the whole time.  Dude backed right into one of the poles at full speed and cracked his tailbone.  He kept trying to cover it up but he was in serious pain, probably didn't sit right for months.

... cracked his tailbone ... he was in serious pain, probably didn't sit right for months.

I fell backward and injured my tailbone when I was about fourteen. Serious pain, indeed, plus nausea.

This pic is great on a million different levels. I'm not sure who took it. Grasscat or coldayman maybe?

Yesterday, a quick shot from one of the overlooks on the Palisades Parkway.

Beautiful shot against the blue sky.

He's missing the little finger on each hand. I never noticed that before!

The Lorain-Carnegie Bridge is cool as hell. Most modern bridges are all about cost effectiveness, bland, then they add some minor silly BS to try and make it ornate. I wish more bridges looked like this.

Did ya' know that it was built with a lower deck that would accomodate streetcars, like the Detroit-Superior (Veterans Memorial), except that it only provided room for four tracks compared with the D-S bridge's six, in preparation for streetcar system expansion that never happened? You can see the lower deck from beneath it. Like the lower deck on the Detroit-Superior, it's mostly used for utility lines now, I think.

That is one of the things that has always stood out to me in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  ALL of their  infrastructure is quality design.  Here are some good examples:  http://www.twincitiesdailyphoto.com/labels/bridge.html

Six?  The lower level of the DS bridge only carried 4 tracks.

I am under the impression it was constructed with four but could be expanded to six.

I'm sorry. I thought it was clear that I was referring to the amount of space provided in the structure, and not to the number of tracks installed, because tracks were never installed on the Lorain-Carnegie, so far as I know.

^I love that photo!! It's so calming.

This is one of Williamsport's two flatirons. Now, if only this building was three of four floors. That would have been so cool!

I wish I had a better picture though. I wasn't thinking about just that building at the time.

It has the opposite effect on me. I remember from a visit to Cass, WV, how chilly and brisk the wind can be at those elevations, even in midsummer. It's exhilarating, unless you didn't bring a warm jacket. Then, it soon gets damn cold!

Williamsport looks nice and well-kept. I've only been through there once, and that was long ago, so I don't remember much about it. It was in Spring, though, and the orchards along the Susquehanna Valley were in bloom. It was one of the most gorgeous drives I've ever experienced.

It's gorgeous every season here.  And you could drive around for a hundred miles and still want to see more.  Williamsport is slowly getting there. The downtown is in a "renaissance" right now and is quickly regaining the luster and appeal it once had. It's a fun place. If only some of the residential areas could be as progressive as Downtown.

anyone leasing this building yet, DJ Orion?

I don't think so, although I don't think that sign with the phone number is up anymore. A while ago, they were thinking of using it as an art school but I'm not sure if anything happened with that. It's a shame, but at least the building is still there.  It's also a lot cleaner than it was in that photo.  So who knows what's going on with it. All of Pine Street needs work. This building, Old City Hall, and then the block between Fourth and Third is all empty. The only buildings that are being utilized are the corners of the block between those two streets. Hopefully Pine Street will see some development though, because one of the building owners is developing his entire building. He has a dance club, a 50's styled diner and he plans to develop his corner parcel and then put apartments above in the second and third floors. I hope that trend continues up the whole street. Slowly but surely, Downtown Williamsport is coming back.

Speaking of Old City Hall:

This is the rear of the building.  It's also on Pine Street, north of the building Evergrey posted.

I took this today while walking around town.

Big railroad updates coming soon...

Cincinnati & Eastern, later the Norfolk & Western and now the Norfolk & Southern. Railbanked east of Peebles to the former Scioto Valley Railway (now the Norfolk & Southern junction) at Portsmouth Junction, north of Portsmouth. The line does not appear to be used east of Sardinia, though.

Hello All,

I'm new to this website, via the recommendation of a friend.  My explanation for my photography goes along these lines.  I used to be an architectural preservationist, and my heart was broken often-so I became an architectural photographer instead.  I bought my business name, and aside from being a landlord with antique property, I also hope to continue my documentation of our architectural losses.  I may be vain, yet lots of people seem to connect with my work.

Here's the 1st floor hallway of Livingston Ave elementary school (Columbus) on it's final day.

Welcome to the site Matt! There are a few users on UrbanOhio that document and photograph historical or abandoned structures. I'm one of those folks and manage http://www.abandonedonline.net. Gordon manages http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com. Do you have a site for your photography and interests?

No website.  I posted on Flickr for a bit until someone used my work minus permission or credit.  Also, I've not had a heck of a lot of time to spend on this hobby as of late.

That photo is awesome!! Welcome to the forum.  You'll fit in here very well.:-)

Another railroad bit...

^Former CL&N crossing at Dana Avenue in Cincinnati. This is the Idlewild Junction, where the CL&N, PRR Richmond Division and C&E interchanged. A small yard to the east of Montgomery is still in use, although the lines to the west have been abandoned for a few years.

Matthew, welcome to Urbanohio.com. It looks like you have good stuff to contribute.

Too bad someone couldn't have salvaged the tin ceiling from that hallway.

Florida Guy, at first I thought the "For Sale" sign was on the bridge, and I was about to look for my checkbook.  :-D
