Last fall, I happened to be driving through Albuquerque during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the world's largest hot air balloon event. Here is a snapshot I took with my panoramic film camera, and this doesn't even fully capture how many balloons there were in the sky.

Please visit Cuba before any policy changes. Support the Cuban people you will not be disappointed. 4/11/19 ??

Agreed, Cuba is amazing.

great to see this! and yes definitely visit cuba.

it doesnt matter what the usa policy is towards it is though, trust me lol, because you can still go if you want to. and cuba is very glad to host you.

however, just don't be blithely canadian about it.

try to stay in a casa particular aka pensione instead. that directly helps a family, at least as best as you can hope for as a tourist.

if you do stay at a hotel, try not to stay at any of these --

https://www.state.gov/e/eb/tfs/spi/cuba/cubarestrictedlist/

remember anything you do through habaguanex the main cuban tourist agency goes directly to the castro clan.

so let your conscience be your guide i suppose, but definitely visit beautiful cuba.

If there is a will there is a way but any adverse policy changes will defiantly have an effect on the Cuban people. There were over 3000 people on the cruise that I was on. 93% of them were American tourists as was announced by the cruise line. Another American ship arrived a day later with what I’m sure was several thousand more.

Tourism is their bread and butter and they have survived from tourism from abroad without American assistance. However it is not a coincidence that I counted 12 construction cranes building new hotels. There were some hotels that were built in the last 30 years but the vast majority of them were built pre-policy change by far. The Cuban exile community here in South Florida largely supports the embargo.  Although that is slowly changing with the younger generation of Americans of Cuban descent.

Sunday's drive through Hartford, Connecticut was the capstone of a long three days with some old and new friends. Having passed through a heavy storm along Interstate 84 approaching Hartford, I noted that the clouds were beginning to part. I quickly exited the interstate and head over to the historic Connecticut State Capitol, which I had long wanted to photograph. As I set up for minute long exposures, the storm clouds began to break away, revealing the late evening sunshine.

The Connecticut State Capitol, the third such building for the state since the American Revolution, was constructed between 1872 and 1878. It was designed by Richard Upjohn and James Batterson in the Eastlake Movement architectural style, also incorporating French and Gothic Revival styled elements. The exterior was built of marble from East Canaan and granite from Westerly, Rhode Island.

The Connecticut State Capitol remains one of my favorite capitol buildings to photograph.

The Connecticut State Capitol is still my favorite in the country.

We’ve all seen the Flatiron building before, but I’m here right now and couldn’t help but be amazed at the ‘Jersey Barrier Plaza’ plunked down in font of it. Seems like Frank Jackson isn’t alone in having a fetish for our precast concrete friends.

^ ha yeah — there used to be nothing there, but then they added seating, etc. and started worrying about ‘the tehr’ as bush used to say, so they added granite blocks. those looked ok — i dk why they put those eyesore jersey barriers in. maybe to stop all the jaywalkers? i would imagine they will fence it off as a proper square eventually. i hope so.

I didn't say do nothing.  My comment is about the aesthetic.  I don't like it.

Well, I thought you'd like it since it's over-the-top and cheap.

Great picture tweeted by the NYC Transit Museum of the NYC subway being built. Love the streetcar tracks going within feet of the gaping hole. Not sure you’d get away with that nowadays!
