May 13, 200916 yr Invisible Children International Tour 2009: Cincinnati Who knew there were so many hippies and liberals in Cincinnati?
May 13, 200916 yr A crowd of 50 hardly qualifies as "so many". Is Invisible Children still going on? That was popular like 3 years ago, and even then I could not get into it.
May 13, 200916 yr Due to the popularity, the event was expanded to worldwide rallies that drew in over 8,000. The 250 individuals who attended this were mostly high schoolers who skipped their Prom to attend this. I also interviewed and talked to quite a few Xavier and UC students, as well.
May 14, 200916 yr Who knew there were so many hippies and liberals in Cincinnati? Me. Yep, there are a lot of hippies in Cincinnati. Though no music genre dominates the Cincinnati scene, there probably are more jam bands and other types of bands that cater to hippies and neo-hippies than anything else.
May 15, 200916 yr I'm going to cheat. But this is amazing. After a hard rain this evening, the air got humid and the fog started creeping up my backyard. The fog is just starting to crawl up my yard. Over to the left is the interstate, which is completely covered. Oh, and that cross-looking thing is our clothesline. Did NOT want to be driving on that highway, that's for sure: Reminds me of something out of a Stephen King flick:
May 15, 200916 yr Neat shots, sort of ethereal. They remind me of my time at Dover, although the terrain there is low and very flat. The base is near the bay and marshy lowland, and the fog would come creeping along the ground and increase in depth until it was maybe ten feet deep. Sometimes it would get so thick you couldn't see anything at street level, but from a second-storey window you could look out across it and see a clear sky above. I remember riding my bike at night as the fog came in, and watching my front wheel cut a wake through it just like a boat going through water.
May 15, 200916 yr Oh! There are few areas that have as dense fog as Delaware. At Dover, it often carried the smell of salt marshes, and sometimes it was so thick you could taste it. We had the biggest mosquitoes I've ever seen, too.
May 21, 200916 yr This house is the only house to somewhat survive the building of the I-180/US 220 Beltway Interchange in the Williamsport neighborhood of Faxon:
May 23, 200916 yr have you gotten any good deals there? We know how you like to shop!! Oohhhh, Dear. When I do venture into BK, I rarely go past the BK Museum. Besides, that store doesn't appear to be open. I guess there isn't a big market for white people in that area. :?
May 24, 200916 yr i'm more startled by that guy wearing all that red in heavy duty crip territory! :-o
May 24, 200916 yr i'm more startled by that guy wearing all that red in heavy duty crip territory! :-o but that is an old man. Where in CH was that taken?
May 24, 200916 yr a beautiful & very unusual ohio sky on apod: Astronomy Picture of the Day Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2009 May 12 A Circumhorizontal Arc Over Ohio Credit & Copyright: Todd Sladoje Explanation: Why would clouds appear to be different colors? The reason here is that ice crystals in distant cirrus clouds are acting like little floating prisms. Sometimes known as a fire rainbow for its flame-like appearance, a circumhorizon arc lies parallel to the horizon. For a circumhorizontal arc to be visible, the Sun must be at least 58 degrees high in a sky where cirrus clouds are present. Furthermore, the numerous, flat, hexagonal ice-crystals that compose the cirrus cloud must be aligned horizontally to properly refract sunlight in a collectively similar manner. Therefore, circumhorizontal arcs are quite unusual to see. This circumhorizon display was photographed through a polarized lens above Dublin, Ohio last week. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap090512.html
May 25, 200916 yr I enjoy the use of a logo/seal-ish image on some manhole covers in Madison. I think these started appearing last year or so, and I always forgot to take a picture of one until a return visit last weekend.
May 26, 200916 yr Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Camp Nelson, Kentucky Please pray or have a quiet moment to remember the soldiers that have sacrificed their lives for our country, and for the brave individuals who are fighting the battles to preserve the freedom and liberty in the United States of America.
May 26, 200916 yr An HDR of the north(rear) wall of the old Lycoming County Prison, now known as the Cellblock Nightclub: You know, that sidewalk just might be one of the oldest surviving sidewalks in the City of Williamsport.
May 26, 200916 yr It is. It was built in 1867. It's the County's second jail to occupy that location and it served it's purpose until they built the new jail in 1986. It's now a nightclub, but they kept the interior original and it's awesome inside. It's a pretty imposing and prominent structure Downtown though. The tall, stone walls go back mid-block and the front of the building looks like an old fort. Here's some more information on it with some photos of the front.
May 26, 200916 yr Random scene at Hocking Hills State Park...near Old Man's Cave https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/
May 26, 200916 yr wow, very medieval --it certainly looks plenty old! Until you see the handicapped sign at the left https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/
May 26, 200916 yr Random scene at Hocking Hills State Park...near Old Man's Cave And devoid of people! The last time I was there, I was struggling to get good composure due to the insane amount of traffic.
May 27, 200916 yr Random scene at Hocking Hills State Park...near Old Man's Cave And devoid of people! The last time I was there, I was struggling to get good composure due to the insane amount of traffic. Yes but in order for me to get that shot, I had to return to that place at 8:00pm after a rainstorm. One more for the viewing pleasure https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/
May 28, 200916 yr I think the photo with the bridge and waterfall is peaceful and idyllic. Here's someone's $400 AWSHIT! moment:
May 28, 200916 yr I think the photo with the bridge and waterfall is peaceful and idyllic. Here's someone's $400 AWsh!t! moment: ahhh..that would be me. lol
May 28, 200916 yr Some shots of Cincinnati from today: That first shot is amazing. It looks a lot like this painting of Mt. Adams at the Cincinnati Art Museum. I forget the artist, but it's one of my favorite paintings.
May 28, 200916 yr The blue one is a panorama taken with about 3 shots with a 180mm. This one's from this past January or February on the short lower part of Ohio Ave. It's on Fuji Astia, shot with a Canon AE-1 & 50mm lens, worth a combined $40. I'm thinking about getting this one drum scanned and trying to sell prints, but I don't know how sellable this view is.
May 29, 200916 yr Schott Hall, Xavier University Columbia-Tusculum, Cincinnati, Ohio Ripley, Ohio West Union, Ohio Surprisingly, not that bad of a town, although they need a serious facelift for most of their central business district.
May 29, 200916 yr Lima-built steam locomotive NKP 765 passes the former Pennsylvania Railroad depot in Fort Wayne en route to North Judson, Indiana, to run weekend excursions between North Judson and Lacrosse. 70-300mm Nikkor lens cranked all the way out and the image further cropped in Photoshop. Shot from the observation deck of the 312-foot, 1930 Art Deco Lincoln Tower.
May 29, 200916 yr Rob, sans the cars, that could be a scene from the 1950s! In the 1950s the parking lot would have been cheek-to-jowl with early 20th century working-class houses. I remember when some houses still stood across the street from the PRR depot and along the cross street on the near side of that block. The railroad right-of-way was manicured and kept free of trees and brush, and I've read that nearly forty trains a day stopped at the depot. The rest of the photos from that morning are here
June 7, 200916 yr via curbed blog - nobody puts doggie in a box! edit: oh the things you see on the nets, one more courtesy of bldgblog: "The water selection at Claridge's, curated by Renaud Grégoire, food and beverage director"
June 7, 200916 yr I ran across these tonight, they're from 2003 in Athens and a lot funnier now than I remember them being. The popped collar alone would have been reason enough to snap a photo, the cat fight is merely icing: I didn't get a shot of it but the girl in the tie-died shirt threw the other girl's purse WAY up in a tree...
