Beautiful photo! Nice job capturing all the subtle details in the shadows.

It's amazing how a scrapyard can draw you in and produce some nice photos.

This is looking east towards Downtown Williamsport.

nice. hey look in the puddle in the foreground, you can see the telephone pole reflected.

i love hitting neighborhoods like that with the camera. very scenic to my eye.

you are reminding me to do a thread in black and white sometime.

^Thanks.  I too am drawn to these types of neighborhoods.  I am starting to play around with black and white.  I am trying to find techniques other than just HDR in which to refine my skills.  I just tried some selective color tonight and I'm still unsure if I really want to keep going with that.

Beautiful shot!!  I was looking at your Kentucky UrbanUp threads, and I love your wide angle shots.  The distortion on some of those photos is awesome.  What's the focal length of the wide angle lens you used in those threads?

I use a Nikon 20mm f/2.8, very little distortion for architectural shots. It's so wide on a full-frame that I go overboard with it often :)

I paid a pretty penny for it, but it's one of the best lenses that I've owned. I wish the thread wasn't plastic, though.

Wow. I guess 20mm wouldn't crop on a full frame right?  I am a big fan of your wide shots. :-)

I count 2 tower cranes in that photograph.

I know there has been some discussion on HDR and everyone has their own opinions about it.  My opinion is this: I like HDR when used in moderation.  I have been refining my skills and I love HDR's that are subtle.

I agree. HDR can be used for creative effects when used skillfully, but its strong suit is recreating an image the way the photographer's eye sees it, which may be beyond the reach of basic technology.

I love that photo Rob. It's like technology encroaching on nature... Or maybe the other way around.

Woah that's quite impressive.

Hello Chicago!  My new home for many years to come.  I'll be moving to my new apartment sometime next week.

Here's the view from what will soon be my office, though I'll probably be about 10 feet back fro the windows

Great pics... I used to live a few blocks away from where the first pic was taken, and I used to work in the building at far right in the second pic.

There's many reasons I like NYC better than Chicago, but Chicago has hands-down the most spectacular skyline in the Western Hemisphere, and possibly anywhere.

what nabe are you moving into?

The South Charleston Interstate 64 eastbound span will longest continuous segmental span in the United States at 2,975 feet with a main span of 760 feet.

Traverse forms help the concrete cure for six days. Crews pour one 15-foot segment at a time, and there are a total of 168 segments in the bridge. A segment can be as tall as a two-story house.

More on this later...

I like!!! I wish my area had CSX. I love their color schemes.

I still prefer the Chessie color scheme, or the sleeping kitty of the C&O!

Wow, great composition. You could make that into a postcard.

Nice to see they adjusted the floodlights on the Carew Tower... Somebody posted a photo a few weeks ago, and the lights on the west side were all focused on one spot on the building... It looked like they were about to burn a hole through the office tower!

Up late. Listening to Saosin. And my head is filled with a thousand thoughts at once.

So I decided to post a photo. I have recently been drawn to where objects meet the sky.  I'm thinking about making a project out of this.

Great contrasts- colors, textures, and a good balance between highlight and shadow. Nice work!

Thanks Rob!  I really liked this.  It's one of my favorites.

Sweetie, what hotel was that?  Where is this?  I dont recognize that area.

There is a junction with Interstate 290.

Here it is! Totally gentrified now.

Then it was a Holiday Inn. I don't know what it might be now, or even if it still exists. My train from San Francisco was delayed by blizzard conditions across much of the West/Midwest and I missed my connection out of Chicago to Fort Wayne. Amtrak put me in a hotel overnight and gave me vouchers for meals and cab fare. Might have been near Greektown; one of the parking lots in the photo has a sign for the Greek Isles restaurant. The single-storey building on the far side of the Hart, Schaffner & Marx building has "Jackson Blvd" painted on the side.

I can't recall the technical details of the photo, but I set my camera on a tripod on the balcony and used a cable release to lock the shutter open, and then stepped back inside to get out of the cold wind. I had much of the next day to roam around the loop, and the temperature never did get up to zero F.

The negative is T-Max 100, 120 roll film scanned on a Nikon 9000ED film scanner. I don't know if the apparent noise in the upper left sky area is a result of the poor gamut/dynamic range of the monitor or if it's in the digital file from the scan. I'm going to print it and see how it turns out.
