January 2, 201114 yr I took advantage of the nice weather we had here in NE Ohio a few days ago. While hiking, I ended up here at this old railroad trestle in Weathersfield, Ohio. The trestle was built by The Bethlehem Steel Bridge Corporation in 1917, and is still in use from time to time by Norfolk Southern. Bethlehem Steel Railroad Trestle by smiling bob, on Flickr
January 3, 201114 yr Nice first post bob - and judging from you flickr stream, you will be a welcome addition to these boards.
January 3, 201114 yr hmmm not sure what happened here... I couldn't log in under NorthwoodsZJ earlier... created a new account and not my original user name is showing up...
January 3, 201114 yr mrnyc - Thanks! Weathersfield is just outside of Niles/Warren. Cort - Yep, tis I! :) Smith & DJ - Thanks! I luck out now & then. I've been lurking around for a while & I'm quite honestly amazed at the number of great photogs that post here... truly amazing work by all of you!!
January 3, 201114 yr Bob, i think you should just stick with Northwoods. lol BTW, you need to post Oakhill and Lakeview.........
January 3, 201114 yr hmmm not sure what happened here... I couldn't log in under NorthwoodsZJ earlier... created a new account and not my original user name is showing up... Let me know which account you'd like to keep and I'll delete the other one. Thanks for sharing your pictures, keep it up!
January 3, 201114 yr Bob, i think you should just stick with Northwoods. lol BTW, you need to post Oakhill and Lakeview......... Cort - I debated doing so, but I figured I should keep things in sync with my other accounts, mainly Flickr -- I didn't want it to appear that I was posting other people's work. I'm going to transfer a bunch of stuff over to Flickr & once I do that I'll repost the Oak Hill, Lake View & the others here (although I can't guarantee when that will happen!) haha! :)
January 4, 201114 yr ^Ok, you smiling bob-a-roo. I guess you do smile a lot, but it's probably because you're laughing at my dumbness. Anyway, keep w/the sb (could stand for sob or bs backwards). Knowing you you'll pawn your work off on me, lazy bum. Seriously though, get to work transferring that crap. I mean, turn off the vacuum, quit dusting and scrubbing for a minute and you'll get it done, you neat freak.
January 4, 201114 yr Ha! Is that what I'm smiling at??? You know better. And what happened to "You gotta love a guy that cleans" anyway? But really, I'll get it all moved, soon. On a side note; I picked some crappy headstones to shoot the last time I went to Union! I came up with virtually nothing on almost every single marker! So it looks like I'll just be posting photos for the most part on that batch.
January 4, 201114 yr smiling bob and cortlandgirl79, I genuinely appreciate your contributions to the photo threads. Please keep in mind that this is a photo thread and occasional quips and comments are to be expected, but Personal Messages or even the Urbanbar Off Topic thread are better places for extended interpersonal banter. Thanks
January 5, 201114 yr I spent quite a bit of time on the road over the holiday break, and was in Charleston, West Virginia during New Years eve. After driving for quite a long time (visiting some places beforehand), I stopped to reflect about 2010 along the Kanawha River. And to take my last photograph of the year. Patrick Street Bridge, Kanawha River Afterwards, I drove to Beckley, washed up at the service area, and camped out in the back of my car in my comfy sleeping bag! I spent quite a few days living out of my car and loved the nomadic lifestyle. Photos from my trip and more coming soon...
January 6, 201114 yr ^ a beautiful nightshot! and its so crystal clear...did you use a tripod? how long was the shutter open? thx i struggle with nightshots. ps -- sounds like a fun trip, but i'd be careful camping out at auto reststops with all that coming and going, that's more than a bit dangerous.
January 6, 201114 yr That was using a tripod, with a circular polarizer filter, at f/10 for 10 seconds with a Nikkor 35mm f/2-D lens. Achieving the "star" patterns with lights requires a long exposure - but not too long or the sky bleaches out, and just a lot of patience and time. Yeah, I know auto-camping can be dangerous. I only slept once at the service plaza next to a ramp and under a light. The other nights, I was holed up in a campground at a state park but didn't get out the tent because it pretty much rained for two days.
January 8, 201114 yr Thanks Rob! That was my first time actually walking around in SoHo/Little Italy and I was just amazed by the density. Awesome place.
January 9, 201114 yr Thanks Rob! That was my first time actually walking around in SoHo/Little Italy and I was just amazed by the density. Awesome place. Hah! You went to the best part of Manhattan. :p
January 9, 201114 yr Found this on my external hard drive...a vignette from the 2003 Time Change Riot in Athens:
January 10, 201114 yr I went to a wine dinner at Tartine in Rocky River last month. This is a pic of the palate cleansing salad. More pics on my blog if you are interested. http://borncirca1979.blogspot.com
January 14, 201114 yr Thanks! It's Marblehead, 45 miles east of Toledo. It's a really nice part of the lake and quite touristy in the summer. This area is a major launching point to PIB and Kelleys (Kelleys Island is the land mass out in the distance in the first shot). Cedar Point is also nearby:
January 24, 201114 yr C-Dawg, amazing photos! Here's a shot I dug up from the archives back when I lived in Michigan Quiet sunday Northbound traffic on I-75 / Saginaw County, MI

January 31, 201114 yr CMT, Lifting Magnets Division (Youngstown)... Ha ha....I did legal work for American Electric Power for 5 1/2 years. We looked at millions of documents, so I've seen that guy plenty of times!!!!
February 1, 201114 yr From the Fort Wayne Farm Show last month: Massey Ferguson Diesel Engine: My haul; two magnetic-base BRIGHT red LED safety flashers, some farm-toy knick-knacks, and chocolate butter toffee from South Bend Chocolate Company. ] To see more, click either photo

February 5, 201114 yr Awesome photo C-Dawg! From the Fort Wayne Farm Show last month: Massey Ferguson Diesel Engine: My haul; two magnetic-base BRIGHT red LED safety flashers, some farm-toy knick-knacks, and chocolate butter toffee from South Bend Chocolate Company. ] To see more, click either photo Rob, I looked at that whole gallery and I am amazed by the sheer size of some of that equipment. I'm amazed by it, too. The tractors we farmed with 50 - 60 years ago look like toys compared with the ones farmers use now. The machines that landscapers use to mow suburban lawns have more horsepower than the machines we used for growing food. The high machines with the tall wheels are crop sprayers; to me they look like a cross between a spider and a grasshopper. We farmed about 300 acres and milked 30-40 cows when I was a teenager, and we were considered one of the larger operations in our immediate area. Now, few farmers do both; grain farmers own and/or lease thousands of acres, and dairy operations have thousands of cows.
February 5, 201114 yr Every summer I'll see one of those crop sprayers driving along the highway. Usually it's near our mall and holding up mall traffic haha. You're right though, they do remind me of some kind of insect.
February 10, 201114 yr As much as I'm so SICK of this winter, it did make Downtown Williamsport look gorgeous on the 29th of January:
February 10, 201114 yr This morning the temperature at the airport purportedly was -10F, but at my house in a city neighborhood it was warmer (-1F). With each passing day I'm increasingly challenged to find beauty in winter. Nice shots, though. I like the splash of color from the traffic signal against an otherwise bleak scene. Regarding those push-to-cross buttons, the pedestrian legally has the right of way in every state I know of. I think it's time we enforce pedestrian priority; drivers should have to get out of their cars and push a button - and then wait - to get a green light.
February 11, 201114 yr But I CAN still walk to the downtown area, right?? Where is this? I'm sure they have an extensive complete streets program in place as well :-D
February 11, 201114 yr But I CAN still walk to the downtown area, right?? Where is this? I'm sure they have an extensive complete streets program in place as well :-D I don't know if walking is allowed. The day I was there (Sunday afternoon in late March), the only other people downtown were riding Harleys with extremely loud pipes. Allegan, Michigan. Rather attractive downtown, in fact. Click the photo to go there.
February 11, 201114 yr That is a cute little downtown. I particularly like how the City Hall and Masonic Temple are nestled in among the other storefronts, and the backs of the buildings along the river remind of a restaurant I once worked at in Bristol Borough, PA. The patriotic baby mural, on the other hand, is rather creepy...
