FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Earth Fare, a niche North Carolina grocer, on Wednesday opened the second of what it hopes will be several stores in Northeast Ohio.

The privately owned, non-union supermarket opened its doors at Westgate Mall roughly seven months after it entered Ohio with its Fairlawn store on May 18.

It bills itself as a "healthy supermarket," because it carries foods that contain no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or fragrances.

It also bans foods with antibiotics, synthetic growth hormones, and high-fructose corn syrup.

"It's the best opening we've ever had in the history of the company," in terms of sales and the number of shoppers who walked in, Chief Executive Jack Murphy said of Wednesday's opening. He would not provide specific numbers...

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Five issues on the November ballot allowing the development of a new retail area on residential land near Westgate Shopping Center passed citywide by wide margins.

Issues 43-46 all are passed citywide by about 71 percent to 29 percent. Issue 47 passed citywide by a slightly smaller 69 percent to 31 percent margin. A majority of residents in Ward 2 also must approve the measures. That breakdown from the Board of Elections was not immediately available.

The five issues would rezone four rental homes on West 210th Street and one property at 3255 Glenbar Drive from residential to general business.
