The manufactured "Survivors" on TV are made even more phony when you consider the stories of someone who really survived a life-threatening event.  This is a great story.

ROCK CREEK, Ohio — Whenever Dennis Hale looks out on the Great Lakes, he can’t help scanning the horizon. His eyes reflexively move back and forth, back and forth. Hale’s face is weathered, his hair gray. His rugged body packs 140 pounds less than it used to carry, but his eyes — those ever-watchful eyes — are just as blue.
