Posted November 28, 200618 yr If Easton already makes you want to barf, this link's for you: http://www.bigeyeinthesky.com/ViewQTVR.asp?PID=572&CID=Easton Bombs away!
November 28, 200618 yr this photo technology always fascinates me (if the camera can't be set to automatic then I am seriously lost) these 'instant towns' must make Walt Disney smile. where's the tram ride? ;) thanks for the link
November 28, 200618 yr What I don't get is why go through all the effort to create a downtownesque 'hood, then across the street (Easton Market) build a typical american strip mall?
November 28, 200618 yr ^Because typical Americans want strip malls and that's all most developers know how to build.
November 28, 200618 yr ^^ I ask myself those types of questions all the time. Just like, "Why would anyone eat at Friday's or Applebee's?". I think it all comes down to familiarity. It reminds me of those gawd awful Chevy commercials..."From the east coast, to the west coast, down the Dixie Highway back howowwowme...This is ouuuur country!!!". I feel like some camera shots of strip malls and Applebee's restaurants would fit in really well.
November 28, 200618 yr Although it's been many years since I've been to Columbus, I find it distressing to see this kind of development taking place there. Back in the 70's there was a similar (albeit probably much smaller), pseudo "New Orleans"-style shopping area in the suburbs called The French Market. I don't know if it's still there, but it was considered THE place to go back then. Sadly all this stuff comes at the expense of revitalizing the downtown core (ironically pictured in the far distance). Unfortunately this is happening in cities everywhere... http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

The Continent is still there. It's just nightclubs and restaurants now. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 28, 200618 yr The image presentation technology is intriquing. The combination of ersatz city and motion sickness made me queasy, though. All Easton needs is a fleet of faux trolleys crusing around clanging their bells. The most appalling thing is that what is fabulous when it's new is always eventually overshadowed by something even bigger and more excessive, and then falls into disuse and disrepair. Someday all this will be a ruin of broken glass, boarded-up stores and graffiti. And I will go there and stand in the middle of the desolation and look around and laugh.
November 29, 200618 yr hhhmmmm, more surface parking than i thought. guess easton isnt above that like i thought. what on earth was i thinking.
November 29, 200618 yr All Easton needs is a fleet of faux trolleys crusing around clanging their bells. They've already got those!
November 30, 200618 yr ^ That's right, who are you to dictate to people what kind of place they can park in?
