Posted November 28, 200618 yr Here are some pictues I took this weekend. The ones of the rink were taken early in the day. About an hour later, the rink, the square (and Rock Bottom) were all packed :-D From the top of Carew Tower: Bonus Shots from the Square and Carew Tower from the "Grand Opening" Ceremony: The guest of honor Talib Kweli on stage Talib Kweli on the video screen The Square from above A shot of OTR The obligatory shot of "The Banks" My friends from India discovering that buildings here are a little taller than in Bangalore Parting Shot
November 28, 200618 yr I just can't explain how much I love FS!!! It is really shaping up, I can't wait until its all finished!! I also can't wait to go on my first ice skating experience in the upcoming weekends down at the square!! Thanks for the pics, the rink looks to be VERY popular!!!
November 28, 200618 yr Oh, thank you so much for the Carew shots of the square - I kinda knew where the Ice Rink was going to go, but that sure nails it down! And great shots of the lady...just beautiful! Hey, and you managed to get all of the panels in the Covington Flood Wall Murals into a single shot - nicely done! It took me more than 50!
November 28, 200618 yr very cool shots and views. great to see the skating, that should happen in every decent sized downtown in winter.
November 28, 200618 yr If anyone's interested, you may want to take advantage of this activity planned for the skating rink this year: Broomball! So much fun it's rediculous. http://www.myfountainsquare.com/broomball

November 28, 200618 yr So where is the Ascent being built? I thought it was in the area this shot covers... By the way, these photos are fantastic! It's good to see FS with people actually using it :)
November 28, 200618 yr Ooo...fountains!!! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 28, 200618 yr So where is the Ascent being built? I thought it was in the area this shot covers... There's a tall building straight ahead, and a slightly shorter matching building to the left of it. The Ascent is going up immediately behind the slightly shorter matching building.
November 28, 200618 yr ^^gold42, look just between the end of the bridge and the bland pink office tower on the left, you can see concrete piers and floors rising. Basically, if you drive from Ohio to KY, it is the first building/structure that actually touches the street on your right. edit: RV already took care of it...
November 29, 200618 yr So where is the Ascent being built? I thought it was in the area this shot covers... There's a tall building straight ahead, and a slightly shorter matching building to the left of it. The Ascent is going up immediately behind the slightly shorter matching building. Ohhhh, I see it now. Thanks RV. I had thought it was further along than that from the photos Grasscat had posted. (See below).
December 6, 200618 yr The Fountain Square ice rink is worth the trip. It's only $2.00 to skate! I dug up my old figure skates. First, the walk to the rink. Old door on a new house Antebellum Temple and globe street lights Government and Gargoyle Courtyard Prominade Pigeons Pyramid Skaters Skaters Skaters It was a bit of a shock to see the fountain moved north and rotated 90 degrees, but there it was! Also, I was expecting the plaza to be closer to street level. It is raised about 8 feet above the street. It doesn't look quite like the renderings. Then again, I never put much stock in renderings - that rendering had two way traffic on Fifth Street! Thanks for looking. PS - I skated for over two hours and only fell three times. The first fall was spectacular.
December 11, 200618 yr Antebellum Temple and globe street lights Probably the most amazing temple in the United States and it was actually the First Reform Jewish Temple in America
December 20, 200618 yr I went skating again. It was a bit warmer, and more crowded, than last time. It's a great experience and I would recommend it.
