The Coney Island news blitz continues. While the gang at Thor Equities are still working on convincing the public of their noble intentions, they are also adding a crown jewel to their land portfolio. The Albert family, owners of the Astroland amusement park since 1962, sold the 3.1-acre plot to Thor for about $30 million. Astroland will close up shop for good in fall '07 :-(, but the deal does not include the Cyclone, which the Alberts will still run :-). Thor, which now controls 12 acres on Coney, is eyeing this particular site for possible hotel action, and presumably, giant golden tattooed elephants.

ASTROTOWER Could head South.

December 5, 2006 -- The iconic Astrotower ride in Coney Island could soon be heading to an amusement park in the South, The Post has learned.

Carol Hill Albert, who sold Astroland Park to Thor Equities last week, said she wants to donate the 275-foot-high "space tower" to the city so it could be moved to another part of the Coney Island boardwalk.

But if the city doesn't accept her offer, she said, she has a buyer who wants to move it to an undisclosed amusement park somewhere down South...
