Posted December 6, 200618 yr I was going to post this in urbanbar but thought it would only get lost with all the random stuff there so I thought this was a better fit. I have only been able to locate one camera shop in the region that rents lenses. It is called K&R Photographic and is located at 538 Terry Lane, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky 41017 off Buttermilk Pike. They can be reached at 859-341-6986. Here is a map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=538+Terry+Lane+Ft.+Mitchell,+Kentucky+41017&ie=UTF8&z=15&om=1&iwloc=addr http://www.krphotodigital.com You can also rent studio space. If you know of any other camera shops that rent lenses in the Cincinnati-Dayton area, feel free to post there information on this thread.

December 7, 200618 yr No, I called them today. Cord Camera & Provident Camera don't rent lenses either.
December 7, 200618 yr Right now I am renting $4000 worth of lenses from a friend.....for free!!!! It's much cooler when it's free.
December 7, 200618 yr Right now I am renting $4000 worth of lenses from a friend.....for free!!!! It's much cooler when it's free. What you meant to say is that your friend is asking you to play storage cell because he has no place to hold them. :-D
December 7, 200618 yr I asked a friend about Fairborn Camera and he said that he was pretty sure that they no longer rent lenses.
December 8, 200618 yr Just buy what you want to try out used on Ebay and if you don't like it sell it. Typically when you rent lenses you need to have avalible credit on your card -- in other words they charge you the full value of the equipment then erase the charge when you return it. It usually costs $100~ to rent something for the weekend, at most you'd lose $100 buying a $1K lens off Ebay and reselling it a month later. I've never rented anything because around the time I had enough credit on my card to rent something fancy I discovered Ebay, where I've done exactly what I'm describing 5 or 6 times over the last 5 or 6 years. Also, I don't know what the heck lens you are going after, for what you do (I'm guessing by your site) you don't need anything fancy except maybe Nikon's 14mm which goes for $850 used or a 300mm f/4 which goes for $500 used. And again I'll recommend the 180 f/2.8, there are a bunch of them on Ebay right now that'll sell for under $400.
December 8, 200618 yr Jake "credit" isn't a problem for some of us. I have no problem with a $1200 deposit on my credit card to rent a lens for a day or weekend to try it out. I could even write a check for that matter. It is far less of a hassle than buying a lens and then having to resell it. While I realize there are used lenses on eBay, renting is a great option for many of us. I called K&R Photo in Ft. Mitchell and they quoted me $20 for a days rental of a $400 Nikon 60mm macro lens. That is pretty reasonable. Renting lenses isn't for everybody but it works for some of us. Looking at my website is not a good judge of what lens I need either. I keep my personal photography and cincyimages.com totally separate. I take many more photos than what is online, especially of my daughter. With all that being said are their any other camera stores out there that rent lenses in the region?
December 8, 200618 yr That is excellent news. I am new to the dSLR world and have yet to purchase a lens apart from the kit lens that came with the rebel xti. I have been looking at two lenses on Amazon, but I don't want to plop down that much money on something without seeing it in person. Now if I only had the free time to use my camera. :-( Thanks for the heads up, montecarloss
December 9, 200618 yr I bought a roll of paper green screen from these guys a few years ago. Once again, the only place in the area that had it. They seemd to be real square dealers. Price & service & delivery were all good.
December 9, 200618 yr >I shoot on $50 lenses for 35mm cameras, but the principle is still the same. And also there is always the chance you will make money on ebay since there are a lot of dumb people on there selling things too low or buying them too high. I bought one camera for $2400~ and sold it for $2900 after using it for six months and it was already 20 years old. >Jake "credit" isn't a problem for some of us. I have no problem with a $1200 deposit on my credit card to rent a lens for a day or weekend to try it out. Before Ebay came along I tried to never use my credit card and only had about $1,000 in credit. Ironically, the more in debt you are, the more credit they give you. If you are $20,000 or $30,000 in debt, you get credit card offers every single day.
