I don't mind the touchscreen and use it a lot, especially since swype came around.  But I need a keyboard because I do some heavy typing on my phone on certain days.  I've went from blackberry curve to the G1 to the 3g slide to the G2.  I suspect (hope) I'll have this one for awhile.

I suspect you will have that for awhile, everything I read about says it rocks. Hows the keyboard on that thing anyway?

Wider than most qwerty keyboard's.

^Show off.

What are you hitting, David?

Can someone chime in with VZW & at&t?

I'm still debating on getting a smart phone. I really only need a phone for calling and texting. I wouldn't even know which smart phone I'd want. I get a lot of discounts and perks for services and phones because I work for a division of Verizon but I just don't see the point. I really don't need the distractions of a smartphone, especially at work. I get distracted enough on my laptop.

With a smartphone, you can be distracted like that anywhere.

^ The G2 is slick, and its only running a 800Mgz processor (iphone, droid x, evo 4G all run on 1 gig). The new google phone Nexus S is going to land on Tmobile soon so keep an eye out for that if you dont mind a touch screen keyboard.

The G2 & Mytouch 4g are using the 800 & 1 Ghz Scorpion (new Snapdragon), that's why they're so fast. A benchmark test shows my MT4G running faster than anything out right now (droid x, droid 2, iphone 4, nexus, etc.) and it's still stock.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!!!

T-Mobile's HSPA+ network seems to be getting faster and faster! We're now talking faster than wifi using Cincinnati Bells Zoomtown...

Just downloaded the speed test tonight on my G2.  Top scores so far are 0.80 mbps upload and 5.98 mbps download, but the averages were closer to 0.60 and 5.00.  Definitely tests faster with the wi-fi turned off..... which is odd because the browser seems quicker with the wifi on.

I'm going to bank on the vzw lag being the upgrade to lte ... This is a hardware upgrade, not a software one.

Btw, tmo went through the same thing.

Apple introduced the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature with iPhone 14 in 2022, and with the release of iOS 18 last month, users of iPhone 14 and newer gained access to the new Messaging via Satellite feature. This means that if you are unable to connect to a cell tower, you can send text messages via satellite connectivity. (This is included in the price of the iPhone, there is no extra monthly plan you need to subscribe to in order to use this feature.)

Messaging via Satellite is coming in handy for people affected by the extreme weather this month:

If you've got an iPhone 14 or newer and haven't upgraded to iOS 18 yet, you may want to upgrade to gain access to this feature in case of emergency.

One of the main reasons I just upgraded my 13 Pro to a 16 Pro Max (besides my kid wanting my old phone to catch Pokemon with) was to gain satellite messaging capability. A few places I ride my mountain bike have spotty at best cell reception, with plenty of opportunity to get hurt, as well as breaking my bike deep into the woods or getting lost. While I considered getting  Garmin InReach, I don't ride those places often enough to justify the cost of the device and service. Apple's solution may not be quite as robust, but now that it works for more than just emergencies it feels particularly valuable .
