The final week of the quarter in DAAP is affectionatly known as 'hell week'.  This quarter's studio, for me, was somewhat tame....I ended up going over 40 hours without sleep for one span.  While I was there (around 3am) I needed a break and decided to take some pics from the going ons around the studio:

Some hand renderings:

A model in progress:

My desk (a little AutoCAD...a little hand rendering):

A random view, with some of the sayings that have been put on the wall:

Finally...I left after 40 hrs or so in my studio!  Ahhh I see the light!

it looks like salvidor dali designed the lamposts in your pictures.

^Those are actually from a rendering for a Ludlow Ave. redevelopment plan that a classmate of mine found, interesting nonetheless

Up to a point, sleep deprivation has always given the creative process a kick in the butt for me. I like early mornings anyway, just as it's getting light, and the effect is enhanced when I've gone 24 hours or more without sleeping.

Neat post.

oh, yeah they do plan to narrow telford st to only twelve feet and bump out the sidwalks the rest of the way to create a pedestrain area in front of tinks and graeters.

Ahhhh....the difference in planning programs! We don't even have a stu stu studio!

Interesting stuff, but I'm a little confused on the purpose of the tree model.

The tree sketch was done to illustrate the a 50 ft. buffer in a particular plan that was being worked on.  You can see the slight grade, as well as, a stone wall near the bottom that would hold back the soil.

The great thing about a studio, is that it teaches you the neccessary design skills for the profession.  I am learning relatively quickly that planning is as much of an education process as anything...and in order to sell your point and idea...graphical skills are the best route.  You can throw up all the numbers in the world, with brilliant ideas, but if you cannot relay your vision to your audience, then you are up river without a paddle so to speak.

^I agree, which is why I'll probably do a minor in urban design throught the architecture department.

based on what i gather from you guys, i'd be up to a carton a day.

^Huh?!?!?!  What is this supposed to mean??

^A carton of cigarettes....stress = smocking

ahhh haaa...sorry sometimes lack of sleep gets to you in misterious ways

Wait so do you guys blast that Phil Collins song "Suddio" like we do?

Yeah, I've been up here in the architecture studio way too long.  The last time I got a full night of sleep was on Sunday.  I'll leave my methods for staying awake off this board, but the good thing is I feel awake right now, and I'm almost done.  You can pretty much live up in this place.  There is a shower room, refrigerators, microwaves, large LCD TV's, couches and lounges, and plenty of food to keep us up here.

Here's my final model.  I was pissed that my studio instructor said to make them at 1/32 scale because its difficult to work that small

Zoom Out  Surprisinglythere's not too many people up here.  Although most people move their stuff into the hallways where there is more space

Man...all the luxuries of home!!!  All we have are our desks, stools, and our own original entertainment.  Things get a little wacky late at night throughout DAAP, you also have to fend for your own comfort (seizing couches from about the bldg).  As for food there are vending machines and microwaves...and a cafe during the day.  You've got it made!!!

All it takes is a lot of complaining.  About half of these ammeneties were recent additions.
