Detailed plans for the Plum Market have been uploaded to the city's Building & Housing website. Looks like the interior layout will be almost exactly the way it was for Constantino's. However one of the pages refers to various serving stations inside the store: "made to order station, sushi station/carving station, batch cooking area/Dunkin Donuts, warewashing elevation, coffee counter, espresso counter" with spaces for a "frozen island, kiosk, future salad bar" etc.

At the bottom of the one of the pages is the title:
"Plum Market @ Case Western with Bon Appetit (Dunkin Donuts)." The Dunkin Donuts is shown with the parenthesis in the title like that.

I guess it would have to be either Bon Appetit or Dunkin Donuts because I don't see two coffee etc. places going into the same grocer, right? I don't know anything about Plum/Bon Appetit/Dunkin Donuts retailing business stuff, so perhaps someone with familiarity with Plum knows if they pick either chain to co-locate in their stores depending on locations.

I feel it would be odd to have Dunkin Donuts there when it's one next door.

Seeds & Sprouts XIV - Early intel on real estate projects

Euclid3 apartments done, gets retail tenant

Bluewater Capital Partners, LLC's new 49-unit apartment building called Euclid3 wrapped up construction in August. Leasing of bedrooms at 11601 Euclid Ave. is progressing despite the pandemic forcing remote learning on students of area institutions of higher learning. Also, commercial leasing is already showing success.

A permit was submitted to the city this week for build-out of a 1,211-square-foot ground-floor retail space, leaving 2,189 square feet of divisible ground-floor space still available for lease. Bluewater Principal Russell Lamb said the tenant is a salon called New Millennium Studio.

I know it's been discussed ad nauseum but god is that an ugly building. I know the target market is most likely students but oof, 60s dorms are more attractive.

I was thinking it might look a little better when completed.  I was wrong.

In my opinion, it's better in person at street level. When you're looking at a picture singling it out, yes there are some absurd design choices. If you're just walking down the street, the building basically blends in.

It might also look a little better with an active street level. We'll see.

^Who is the architect of that monstrosity? Its important to know....especially if any of us are ever in the position to hire an architect for a project, but also, so we can be on high alert if they are hired for any major project in the city--to get the owner to state their design interests early on and not to let the architect just 'do its thing'. Its the single ugliest new residential construction design I've seen in at least 30 years.

The old Spinal Tap review of their album “Shark Sandwich” would’ve been perfect “It’s just two words - sh** sandwich”.

True, but it's 100 times better than what was there before.

I was reviewing this topic and noticed that back in October KJP had a question about the NEW Plum Market.

In this case Bon Appetit is operating this location for Plum Market.

And Bon Appetit have a ongoing business relationship with Case Western and they have a number of locations at various colleges across the country.  And so it was natural for CWRU to pick them for this location.

I believe Dunkin Donuts will be an in store unit.

From the article link below:

"Plum Market Kitchen, operated by Bon Appétit, will open in January in the redesigned and extensively remodeled Uptown space formerly occupied by Constantino’s Market at 11473 Euclid Ave. Case Western Reserve is the leaseholder."

Pretty sure Bon Appetit operates the Dunkin which is next door, so the reference to Dunkin could also be an inartful reference to that fact.

As some trivia, Bon Appetit currently operates every single restaurant on CWRU campus (recognizing that the lines of "campus" are pretty fuzzy). The law school used to have Munch, an independent kosher place, but they were pushed out in favor of Bon Appetit a few years ago.

Bon Appetit also runs the Plum Market Kitchen (PMK) on the Butler Campus in Indianapolis.

Assuming it's like the Butler campus outpost - geared much more toward prepared foods than groceries. The Butler outpost offers lots of in-store seating/lounging space. So these campus PMK outposts are not like the standard Plum Market locations in SE Mich and the Old Town/Chicago store (& soon DC).   The campus PMK's also differ from airport PMK's (DTW and soon DFW).

Peering around the kraft paper covering the windows, more buildout needed before opening day. Bon Appetit is hiring for positions now.

Here's a peek at the Butler version:

Plum Market Kitchen opens in University Circle’s Uptown district

MARCH 11, 2021

The new Plum Market Kitchen is at 11473 Euclid Ave. Its hours are:

7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday;

9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays; and

9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Just popped in on my lunchtime walk. The space is completely transformed from Constantino’s- in a very positive way. The layout feels open, tidy and bright. It gives the effect that the store is twice as big, with just as much, if not more variety and selection of goods. There’s a full service gourmet coffee station and small dine-in area in the front of the store, as well as increased patio seating. They’re doing GrubHub advance ordering option for prepared foods. I’m looking forward to trying their breakfast, lunch and coffee offerings!

Store looks great. It's in perfect walking distance for me. Beer and wine prices are good. But everything else is insanely overpriced. I'm sorry but I'm not paying $7 for a dozen eggs or $4 for boxed spaghetti.

Good luck getting the numbers to pan out for a grocery store in that location without charging those kinds of prices.

Beautiful space, but definitely a little pricey. It is a very health oriented grocery store that doesn't carry most traditional name brand food products (ie. Justin's peanut butter instead of JIF) so it comes with the territory. It feels a lot like a small Whole Foods. (3-17-21)

Wow. That really does look twice the size of the Constantino’s that was in there. Really great job.

Nice use of natural light. I haven't seen that in a grocery store before.

City records show AT&T will be taking a 1,610-square-foot ground-floor space in the new Euclid3 building at 11601 Euclid Ave. and invest $75,000 to build-out the space.

^Less vacancy is always good, but I cringe every time I see a photo of that horrendously ugly bldg--at least the developer is an equal opportunity employer, hiring a visually-impaired architect.

That area could sure use some planters and / or trees.  Really needs a splash of color.

I was walking by today and saw a permit on the window.   It says it's being built out as a Barnes & Noble.   So I would imagine the one on Euclid is relocating?

So either that Barnes & Noble on Euclid isn't doing as well and they took a smaller space to be able to stay by CWRU, or they were offered a different location by MRN so a bigger name(s) can move into their own spot.

What I like about Uptown is that it is slowly becoming more well rounded with general retail. Should be interesting to see what the future holds.

CWRU Bookstore and Dunkin’ to relocate off Euclid to smaller locations

Matthew Chang, Staff Writer
February 4, 2022

The Case Western Reserve University Bookstore and Dunkin’ plan to permanently relocate from their Euclid Ave. locations. The bookstore had been in its Euclid location since March 2012, moving from the Thwing Center. Now after 10 years, it will shift again. The relocation will begin as soon as the start of spring break, Mar. 4.

The University Bookstore, operated by Barnes and Noble College, will not renew its lease at its current location. It plans to move to the former ABC Tavern space at 11434 Uptown Ave., a location that CWRU owns across the street in the Uptown district. The bookstore plans to close on Friday, Mar. 4, at the end of the business day and reopen Monday, Mar. 14, at its new location.

The current location of the bookstore and Dunkin’ will be leased to new retailers. As of now, CWRU has not said who they may be.

Wait Case is responsible for finding retailers for that space?

I can't tell if this is a remodel of the existing Nu Joy restaurant (Case Western's spot for authentic Chinese food, serving bao, buns, bubble tea, and delicious Asian cuisine) or replacement of it with another restaurant....

I'm guessing that the rent in this building is too high, that's why the brick-and-mortar businesses are leaving this building but not the area.

They are both just moving to different locations...although the Dunkin is moving into the student center down the street and will be less visible (but a lot of foot traffic).

It's disappointing because that large of a space will be hard to rent. It was perfect for the bookstore, and I'm concerned it will be vacant for months now.

Well MRN has known for months they were leaving, so hopefully they've been marketing the space to tenants of all sizes. It can easily be subdivided with a few partition walls.

Dunkin never seems to be open beyond some limited morning hours.

I wonder if they do have something planned for the space because the Cleveland Co. space has been empty for essentially 2 years and the sign is still up.

Three things.

1. Now leasing signs are finally up for the Cleveland Co. Space, hopefully that leases soon.

2. The Vietnamese Cafe is almost up and running and is taking delivery orders right now.

3. The Jimmy Johns is now officially closed. No signage and the advertisement is ripped from the windows.

Vacancies are starting to add up (I know Barnes and Nobles moved but their old spot is so large and visible) I hope MRN can weather the storm.

I literally was just wondering how long it would be until MRN offered it up for sale. Uptown has been around for more than 10+ years so I figured it would be time. Hopefully whenever it is sold the new buyer has the connections to keep the retail filled like MRN has done.

MRN has two major Ohio City developments that it wants to capitalize. Selling Uptown now makes complete sense with respect to its planned near-West Side investments.
