February 10, 201114 yr ^Awesome, thanks! Even in their skeletal form, having structures that tall must already make that stretch of Euclid feel very different.
February 11, 201114 yr So what exactly will these buildings look like? I have seen several designs, just wondering. I cant wait till the area looks like this
February 11, 201114 yr ^I think the most recent renderings were the ones in this: http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2010/04/new_apartments_designed_by_arc.html
March 21, 201114 yr So.... it looks like they decided against the plaza (as depicted in the above aerial rendering) on the corner of Euclid and 115th?
March 21, 201114 yr So.... it looks like they decided against the plaza (as depicted in the above aerial rendering) on the corner of Euclid and 115th? What do you mean? There is still room for the plaza. They will be spending $1 million on it: http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2010/11/uptown_plaza_design_to_be_unve.html
March 21, 201114 yr Look at the aerial rendering above. I'm talking about the NW intersection. Phase I is split into two buildings in the rendering.
March 22, 201114 yr ^Are you basing that off the photo or from recent visits? I hope you're right- the developers seem a little plaza-crazed, IMHO, but from that photo alone I don't think I can really tell how the building lines up with the corner. But I haven't seen the site in person since they broke ground. And thanks for the photo, MH- makes my day to see that much progress (and blue skies)!
March 22, 201114 yr ^I have been by 5-6 times and there is no plaza or cut through resulting in two buildings as depicted in the photo. The as built has the building right up to the sidewalk of E115th Street, and then it curves around continuously onto Euclid.
March 22, 201114 yr ^right. It wraps right around the corner, which is definitely preferable IMO. All it would have provided anyways would have been a cut through to residential parking in the rear. Maybe the rendering on the previous page was just an early conceptual massing. One thing that really caught my eye last time going past is just how massive the ground floor space will be. Ceilings will be a minimum of 30 ft I would guess.... maybe closer to 50. It will make this 3 story building look more like 5
March 22, 201114 yr The cut through on the corner of E. 115/Euclid will be on the first two floors (20' commercial space) only. The residential units will continue above. So, it's not as shown in the massing posted a page back, but there is a substantial arcade/alley that will allow people to park in back and walk to the corner. I believe there will be retail entries in there as well. As for the plaza, nothing has been designed yet, but the plan is for E. 115th Street to bend a bit to match up with a new E. 115th Street on the opposite side of Euclid. This will open up some space for either a) a lot of bare concrete or b) a "plaza" or pocket park with some seating, plantings, etc. The idea will be to match the style of the remainder of the public spaces throughout the development as designed by Field Operations.
March 22, 201114 yr Oh duhh! The rendering shows E115th north of Euclid already running through much of what today is the MAH Ohio parking lot, so already realigned. The corner plaza totally makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

April 4, 201114 yr http://www.saitowitz.com/portfolio.html This link is to the architects website : if you click on the lower left corner of that page you will see Uptown Cleveland listed. Better details of the architectural plans/photos of the construction/and renderings of the completed project. An impressive project. I look forward to its completion
April 4, 201114 yr there are listings of all their projects. The text is in a light grey and dark grey . the last row bottom left is the Uptown Cleveland in dark grey. Click onit and it will lead you to the details
April 4, 201114 yr I couldn't find it either, go to portfolio and set your screen size to 125% and it should be on bottom, left.
April 4, 201114 yr The UH building is still waiting for the last pieces of cladding on the upper levels. Just a shade over 2 years to finish that area...

I actually really like their web site. Maybe it's a browser thing. I don't think there's much new, if anything, among the renderings in the "photos" section, but pretty sure I hadn't seen any of the "drawings" before. And there is indeed some good stuff there, including updated site plan. And from those floor plans you can easily see where all the ground level arcades will be. Good find.

Seems like there is a holdup with the lettering... Well, that's one place you don't want to make a typo. Too bad Uptown won't be done by this Fall. I'd probably try and live there. Together with the finally-approved apartments on Hazel Rd., this should offer some better housing options for CWRU people who aren't enamoured with Cleveland Heights.
May 10, 201114 yr Have they announced any retail / restaurants that will be part of uptown? The website is "coming soon"
May 10, 201114 yr ^ A full service grocery store signed a lease last week. Nice! I didn't think they were able to get a grocery store to take space in the buildings currently being built. That is good news as it will make UC feel more like a residential neighborhood. We know Barnes and Noble is going in and I think that there was some talk of a pharmacy which along with the grocery store would provide some nice amenities for students and UC residents.
May 10, 201114 yr I wonder what that does for the lot 45 development... And my Murray Hill Market! Hopefully the Little Italy store can still last. I have a feeling it will though, it is developing a good neighborhood following. Side note: I ate at my first food truck this morning on the parking lot opposite of MOCA. This is the first time, to my knowledge, a food truck has been parked in Uptown/University Circle. They said they hope to make it a regular location as MOCA and Uptown are going in. Had a pulled pork sandwich marinated in Edmund Fitzgerald...awesome!
May 10, 201114 yr I took a good look at the retail space last week. It is not big enough for a supermarket or anything of that sort. A small 'grocer' a la Constantino's, yes.... but not a supermarket like Giant Eagle, Dave's, etc. I think a supermarket could still go in Lot 45 and that is probably the right place for it.

I did say "grocery store" though. EDIT: understood in reference to the site of Lot 45.
May 11, 201114 yr I like how the "J" on the south side of Euclid immediately abuts the parking garage. Once CIA expands its building, the small gap to the east will close a little bit more as well.
May 11, 201114 yr Depending on the success of phase 1, later phases will be taller per my understanding. I could see another floor or two, but really this is about right-size IMO..... that is, unless you want a huge parking deck where phase II is supposed to go. I think if you look at other similar neighborhoods (such as Covernty) the 2-3 story residential above retail works relatively well in this area.
May 12, 201114 yr See all those little colored "tags" in MayDay's photo? Each of those is a 600' deep geothermal well that will serve the new MOCA facility. Nice!
May 23, 201114 yr I still want to know exactly what this thing will look like. Is this the final look? Whats the material and Im not sure what I think about the funky window design. Either way, this will be a great addition to the area and I cant wait till its complete.
May 23, 201114 yr ^Yeah, I'm super eager to see how the facade turns out. The quality of the design firm gives me great comfort. I have a feeling that the only part I'll be slightly disappointed with will be the slightly boring massing, which was probably imposed by the client and city.
May 25, 201114 yr I knew there was something I was meaning to mention. Last night, I stopped on my ride and took a good, detailed look at the progress on this project. The interior build out has begun on the north side of Euclid. Glad to report that this is project is not only not wood "framed", but they are using some type of metal studs for the framing of the interior walls as well. This is going to be a very solidly built structure. I would also guestimate that less than 10 feet was left between the side on the south of Euclid and the Triangle apartments' garage's north facade. I wonder what the gap between Uptown and the CIA will be once the CIA completes its addition to the west. Anybody?
May 25, 201114 yr I read an article saying the first occupants will move in in 2011. Is that plan still realistic?
May 25, 201114 yr With the framing complete, it seems as if they could finish the interior build out over the summer and have tenants in by the end of year. Just a guess.
