Aren't you EVER happy? With anything??

Love the evening shots with the warmth of the lighted interiors. Is CWRU back in fall semester? Even if they are, I'd love to see what that area is like this fall or near the holidays.

^October will be a magical time in UC (I dont think that is hyperbole either).

The CMA Atrium opening and MOCA's opening will both occur in October. Fantastic.

...and Accent restaurant should be open too.

All with the backdrop of autumn. Wow

Looks like the Uptown Plaza is well on its way:

Yes they are back.  The Target on Cedar was a war zone yesterday between the usual crowd, an apparent recent power outage, and groups of JCU and Case students loitering everywhere.  I just about d@mn near had a nervous breakdown it was so awful.  Avoid that place right now if you can!

What's with those terribly oversized/ out of proportion street signs (similiar to what they have at Avneue District)?

^I like the bigger street signs.  They are a huge help to people unfamiliar with the area so these are perfect for University Circle that has a large transient population.  It's just nice to actually be able to read the street sign before you've driven by the street!

^I  don't like the giant street signs either--anywhere in the city....makes the city look stupid.

I dont mind the size of the signs.

But why do they have to go on such short poles??

Not sure if this was mentioned because it's the first I've heard of it, seeing it today- MITCHELL'S is moving into the uptown- in one of the new storefronts renovated under the old apartment building. It is directly across from chipotle in the alley.

For an ice cream lover like me, this is AMAZING!!

^Great news!  Ice cream places are fantastic amenities in walkable neighborhoods.  Serious pedestrian generators on summer nights- I hope they're open late. Can be a tough go in the winter though!

whoa -- that's news even to me.  A very welcome addition...competing with gelato in Little Italy now!

With my love for ice cream (especially blue Cosmo) I might be the sole person. Who keeps them afloat in the winter! Hahaha

Gotta serve coffee in winter.

Late late night pics of Uptown and MOCA. It was so late night, there are no pedestrians and hardly any vehicles.

I get Mitchell's ice cream all winter long, and as evident by the lines, I'm not the only one.

Forgot the front view

Stunning pics as always, Clueless!  What's with the [fake?] brick wall inside the Jimmy John's?  Part of their branding?

I havent been in this particular JJ yet, but the front door is to the right of this wall and then it appears that you walk back a bit where the store then opens up. I'll have to make it in soon.

As for the faux brick wall...I would say it's probably part of the branding.

This is correct, it's kind of odd because when you're inside, it actually feels like the Euclid entrance would be considered the back door and the alley way is the main entrance.

Thank you Clueless!!!

Additional phase of construction? A maintenance easement? What is this?

Ordinance No. 1231-12(Ward 9, Councilmember Conwell): Authorizing the Director of Capital Projects to issue a permit to AJAPPJR Uptown LLC to encroach into the public right-of-way beneath and above Euclid Avenue by installing, using, and maintaining building foundations and upper floor building faces.

Maybe theier going to be installing some over-hangs on the building that will bear on the new foundations for Uptown, and the overhangs will extend into the ROW.

^^^^ Awesome pictures Clueless, verrrrrrrry nice.

Bonus shot of new CWRU signage on Euclid Ave

DSCF6272.jpg

Great pictures!!  Love the birch groves and most every thing else including that Mitchells is open, not so much that their trash is on the ground though.

Also the new Case signage seems to have a great presence.

Well, there were about 1,000 people there.  A crowd like that always requires cleanup afterwards.

Mitchell's is not open.  They were giving out ice cream for the event.  They aren't opening until November or December.

Thanx for the pics. Looks great.

I'm sure they were only steps away from a trash can also...our society is awesome.

The third to the last picture with the red neon words, what storefront is that?

Clueless... Your photo of Mitchell's Ice Cream Trash is disappointing....But your photo of it is an absolute beauty of a contemporary still life.... Well done

The third to the last picture with the red neon words, what storefront is that?

To the left of where he is standing in the fifth shot is a curvy space at the southeast corner of the development (right in front of the garage).  It looks like it is going to be a restaraunt and that glowing red neon design (it's not words) covers the back wall.

I think you're referring to "Accent"

Should be opening soon. I've been watching it come together and it looks very cool.

Thanks all.

I am having a little bit of difficulty though with the worry about the Mitchell's ice cream cups/spoons.

Just to allay any concerns, the trash problem was very benign. The pictured trash was very isolated. It looked like it was the result of a filled receptacle and some of the cups and bowls made it to the ground.

That's the facts actually.

Now for the interpretation...I found the photo interesting and thought I could convey a sense of after-party fun and frivolity.

Lol, I'm guessing there aren't many forumers who interpreted it that way. Anyway, the trash was cleaned up.

I'll just re-iterate once more...The Muny Lot this was not.

You can see just how clean Toby's Plaza and the "alley" are mere hours after lots of people were here.

The third to the last picture with the red neon words, what storefront is that?

I believe that is a host/hostess stand near a doorway at the upcoming restaurant "Accent".

"I am having a little bit of difficulty though with the worry about the Mitchell's ice cream cups/spoons."

Agreed - it's not something you *hope* to see but "When you leave New York, you are astonished at how clean the rest of the world is. Clean is not enough." - Fran Lebowitz

"Lol, I'm guessing there aren't many forumers who interpreted it that way. Anyway, the trash was cleaned up."

OK. Understood. I did not mean to make that photo the focal point of your post. But trash and lazy people make me crazy. I saw that and I'm thinking 'Damn we just can't have nice things'.

Statements I found interesting in the article....they are breaking ground for another building in December of this year on the north side of Euclid and will break ground in mid 2013 on the building that will slash by the MOCA.  This is the first I have heard of any definite time frames for future phases.  I wonder if the information is accurate?

WCPN's 'Around Noon' was broadcast live from MOCA yesterday and included an interview with Ari Maron. The interviewer asked him about future phases of Uptown and he gave a vague answer about lining up financing; there was no mention of time-tables or any features of upcoming phases.

Video from CWRU of the Blue Bash Uptown grand opening:

In Cleveland, a Flashy New Museum But an Even Better Neighborhood

Next Monday, the Cleveland's Museum of Contemporary Art will officially move into its new $27.3 million home on Euclid Avenue. Designed by Iranian-born and London-based architect Farshid Moussavi, the sophisticated, gem-shaped museum reminds visitors that Cleveland can still build the kinds of flashy cultural toys associated with bigger, wealthier cities.

MOCA Cleveland may make the loudest design statement, but it's far from the only symbol of bold, 21st century urbanism in the University Circle neighborhood.

The neighborhood has seen a diverse set of investments, including high density residential ....

^one of the more factually accurate articles that appears on the board touting new development in town (both positive and negative)...however, why do I have a problem with some of the needless negative buzz words and reliance on urban tales from unknown sources.

Accent is getting closer to opening

Funky! Reminds me of 1970s LED calculators!
