I wasn't crazy about the original concept. Did not like the proposed plaza on Euclid and I think the apartment tower should be oriented towards Euclid and away from the back of the property where it would over shadow the traditional style CWRU residence halls.  Finch seems to move incredibly slow.  Maybe they shouldn't announce flashy concepts when they don't intend to build for a while.  Still waiting for that small condo building they proposed on the Nord Family Greenway quite some time ago (at least I think it was Finch).

It was Finch. I've been waiting for news on it too, but not holding my breath anymore.

Of course, happy to have the building, but why are the windows so few/small?  Looks dark and unfriendly.

Pugu, I was thinking the exact same thing.  There should be big windows/lots of glass on that corner, but this looks depressing.

Is this building suppose to mimic the other buildings in the uptown development?  I cannot recall.  If yes. then the windows are similar to those in the other buildings, as you can see across the street.

For anyone who forgets what this building is going to look like...I’m sure we all just tried to forget.

The design quality in Uptown has been in a steep nosedive since the original apartment buildings. This thing, and the one that replaced the Mexican restaurant are craptacular dreck.

Agree 100%.  Centrum doesn't do much for me either, especially given the original concept.

^Per that link---they are listing prices---whether 1,2,3,4 BR ---PER PERSON.  Is this some kind of dormitory set up?  If I rent an apt---i should be able to put as many people as I want in it up to any restrictions in the lease. I've never paid PER PERSON before.

These are off-campus student housing apartments essentially. Similar to my apartment I had at Kent State University they pay rent per room, so a 4 bedroom at $1,000 per month is $4,000 per apartment. It's crazy. 

^Borders on a scam. I guess its okay if you WANT roommates but don't know anyone to room with---sounds no different though than living in official campus housing.

According to their website www.euclid3.com

• They're leasing out the bedrooms instead of whole apartments
• You're only liable for your bedroom on the lease
• It includes furniture for the common rooms.
• Leases expire in July but you can start them whenever if there are rooms available

It's basically privately owned dorms. I think the Langston by CSU does something similar. It's pricey when you total it up, but it's still a deal compared to living in a dorm at most universities, but only because room and board is typically way overpriced to begin with. Room and board at Case is 15k a year according to the first thing I saw on Google. Even back in 2010 at OSU my room and board was 9 or 10 thousand for the year. With these you get your own bedroom, so I could see students happily opting for this over dorms.

Edit: But yeah, I totally agree it's an absolute cash grab.

And if it's as bad a deal as some on here seem to think, it'll fail or they'll need to lower prices.  Market forces tend to work these things out.

I did this back in college in Florida in the late 90’s. $400 got me a bedroom in a 4 bed 2 bath apartment. Huge living room and kitchen. Utilities included. I thought it was great. 

It's already proving to be somewhat successful. I teach in UC and am told by students that the building next door and the one that replaced Mi Pueblo are leased by this model and are full. Students these days eat this up. Just wish the building was 2-4 stories taller...

It sounds like they fulfill an unmet housing need, since CWRU enrollments are up, there's a campus-housing shortage, and upper-classmen are encouraged to seek off-campus housing.

They saw cheaper rent in Solon and moved there. The restaurant was successful, but they also thought that they could do better by moving away from Uptown's high rent demands.

Windows are in. The building has an impressive presence to it. Hopefully the final product is better than the rendering but I'm in love with the feel it has from the street.

I figured something was going on when I saw the shelves empty. I didn't see any Signage prior that indicated they were closing. That's unfortunate.

As a result of the Constantinos closure, I've heard there will now be a shuttle that will take people to the Dave's in Cedar-Fairmount.

That is god awful architecture!

Too bad about Constantinos though if you look it up the reviews for this location are not great. Hopefully something else will go in that is better run. By the way... has anyone ever looked up the reviews for the Uptown apartments ?? Yeesh... makes me question MRN

I was hoping it would start looking better as it came along but that doesn't seem to be the case.

There's already a shuttle that will take people from directly from UC to the Dave's at East 60th- it's called the Health Line!

Then again, if they're going for a glorified dorm, they've got it. Reminds me of some of the newer builds at my Alma mater, similar concept too - individual bedrooms w/shared suites.

Ah, University Circle, a beautiful campus setting in a big city, but instead of good pedestrian/bike routes and reliable transit, we have 19 separate shuttle fleets.

Not if you're trying to get from Uptown to the C-F Dave's. I don't think you could make the trip by bus without at least one connection. It's probably about as fast to walk. Biking infrastructure for the trip is not awful, but there's a pretty big hill...

If people weren't terrified of the healthline you've got Aldi, Daves, Gallucci's, etc. right down the way, same with the bike lane down Euclid, granted it's not the most inviting lane but it's there.

They're great options, but I'm always surprised by the number of students who don't know Aldi, Dave's, or Gallucci's even exist. For a school that gives out free transit passes to everyone, case doesn't do a good job teaching people about things they can go to.

I sure hope something replaces Constantino's soon, because it's pretty crazy to think in an area with the affluent population of University Circle that the Euclid Aldi, Gust Gallucci's, and Chester Dave's are the top Grocery shopping options. Dave's is 2.5 miles away. Gust Gallucci's is great for specialty items but is a poor substitute for a one-stop grocery store like Constantino's. The Euclid Aldi, let's say, does not currently offer quite the same shopping experience as Constantino's did.

It's less about the institutions not teaching about resources and more about the complacent culture of students.

I am in CF area and whenever I am coming back on the Healthline I almost always walk from Euclid and Stokes. Sometimes I would take a scooter if available. but it takes the same time if not longer to take the bus than walking and walking is much more enjoyable, even with cedar hill.

Typo

Plum Market is pretty expensive, but a damn good grocery store. I imagine they'll have an attached coffee shop (i.e. Intellegentsia) and wine bar inside.

 

...and good point about cleveland.com. I've completely stopped going to the site, perhaps a few weeks after comments were shut down. It just isn't that interesting.
