May 7, 201114 yr Soccer academy up for auction Published: Wednesday, April 06, 2011 By MORNING JOURNAL STAFF [email protected] ELYRIA — The former Brad Friedel Premier Soccer Academy, in Lorain, will be auctioned in a sheriff’s sale on April 27 for $7.126 million, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office website. Premier Soccer Academies was built as a residential soccer academy on Leavitt Road and opened in 2007. The academy offered full year-round scholarships to athletes ages 12 to 18, the first of its kind in the country. However, the $11 million soccer facility depended on business sponsorships that dried up as the national economy stalled. A foreclosure was filed in 2009 against Friedel on the property by RBS Citizen’s National Bank, which is listed on the sheriff’s sale, stating Friedel owes more than $8.18 million on the property... http://morningjournal.com/articles/2011/04/06/business/mj4358486.txt No takers for Lorain soccer academy at sheriff’s sale Filed by Brad Dicken April 28th, 2011 in Top Stories. ELYRIA — There were no takers for Brad Friedel’s former soccer academy in Lorain at a sheriff’s sale Wednesday for the foreclosed property. The starting bid on the sprawling complex was a little more than $4.8 million, far shy of the approximately $9.5 million that Friedel owes to creditors for the $10 million facility that opened to much fanfare in 2008. Lorain County Sheriff’s Lt. William Davis said he was disappointed the 30-acre property didn’t sell because that means the sheriff’s Civil Office will likely have to go through the time and expense to put it up for sale again. “We’d have liked to have it done and out of the way,” Davis said... http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2011/04/28/no-takers-for-lorain-soccer-academy-at-sheriffs-sale/
