Posted December 15, 200618 yr Just thought I would post this for fun. Sure Cleveland's is tallest without a doubt, but is there doubt over which is the coolest/best??
December 15, 200618 yr To be honest, my favorite "tallest" is the Key Tower. At night, though, Carew Tower. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 15, 200618 yr I had to go against my typical cincy self, and go with Key Tower. Its a great building, but Ohio's architectural gems are more of the high/low rise variety.
December 15, 200618 yr How about none of the above. LeVeque Tower hands down!!! Sorry I know I'm being difficult!
December 15, 200618 yr ye ai voted key tower too, even though carew is way more architecturally significant. there should be one on what is your favorite highrise.
December 15, 200618 yr Do people like Key the most because its Ohio's tallest or because of the design? My guess is that its because of its pure height.
December 15, 200618 yr ^It is the tallest sure, but it also has a classic sleak design to it that appeals to me as well. Although I do love Carew a lot....Key got the slight edge.
December 15, 200618 yr It's my favorite as I think it combines height and design rather well. If it were shorter, then I'd probably would've voted for Carew. Carew is the most architecturally significant, though. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 15, 200618 yr the justice center. ah haha just efin w/ you guys, but clev does have plenty of buggly buildings tho. i'd say the terminal tower. like the esb in manhattan, when you live there, it's really a beacon and a part of your life. secondarily i'd say the ohio bell or at&t huron rd. deco building or whatev the heck its called. the superman building. i like carew and leveque too. obviously i like the old deco/goth buildings, and all pretty equally at that. society/key is sharp for a newer tower. very sleek and nice sure, but it looks a little too much like your typical towering office building. for another thing, the copycat version in charlotte bugs me. i have always had a feeling the next major tower ohio gets, if and when and wherever, is really going to be a knockout.
December 15, 200618 yr LEVEQUE (Rhodes State Tower is the ugliest fucking building in the universe. Period.)
December 15, 200618 yr I used to hate Rhodes Tower, but for some reason, it has grown on me lately. A topical antibiotic ought to clear that right up.
December 15, 200618 yr LEVEQUE (Rhodes State Tower is the ugliest fucking building in the universe. Period.) what was the old nickname for leveque? central ohio's middle finger or something like that.
December 16, 200618 yr I guess I'll have to vote for the Key Tower being the Terminal Tower is not in the running.
December 16, 200618 yr The LeVeque Tower is a 47-story skyscraper in Columbus, Ohio. Located at 50 West Broad Street, it was the first skyscraper to be erected in downtown Columbus. The building rises to a height of 555 feet, which made it the tallest building found between New York City and Chicago at the time of its construction. It continued to reign as the city's tallest building until 1977, when it was surpassed by the Rhodes State Office Tower... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeVeque_Tower 1977. This explains everything. The James A. Rhodes State Office Tower is a 629-foot skyscraper located in Columbus, OH. The Rhodes Tower, completed in 1977, is currently the tallest building in Columbus. The building's odd shape is attributed to a last-minute decision to cap the buildings height; originally, the building was supposed to be nearly 150 feet taller... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_State_Office_Tower Which would've made it exactly 779 feet too tall.
December 16, 200618 yr LEVEQUE (Rhodes State Tower is the ugliest fucking building in the universe. Period.) The McNamera in Detroit is damn close, though... "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 16, 200618 yr Honestly I don't think Rhodes is that bad maybe if it were a different color it would be better. I like it better than the Cleveland Justice Center and the embattled tower at the Ameritrust plaza.
December 16, 200618 yr It's gotta be Key for sheer size and sleekness. However I feel that Carew has more character.
December 16, 200618 yr (Rhodes State Tower is the ugliest fucking building in the universe. Period.) The McNamera in Detroit is damn close, though... If the McNamara were the tallest building in the city, perhaps. To all you Rhodes apologists, I'll hear you out. I'm interested to know where the value can be found in a building distinguished by 1) Vast windowless expanses, 2) Microwave dishes as architectural features, and 3) The color of poo.
December 16, 200618 yr (Rhodes State Tower is the ugliest fucking building in the universe. Period.) The McNamera in Detroit is damn close, though... If the McNamara were the tallest building in the city, perhaps. Well, the Marriott @ RenCen isn't exactly a thing of beauty either... December 16, 200618 yr True 'nuff. But at least it lives up to the old credo "Go big or go home." I'm more of a Penobscot man myself: But in a pinch, I'll take One Detroit Center. (Wicked pic, by the way).
December 16, 200618 yr I used to hate Rhodes Tower, but for some reason, it has grown on me lately. A topical antibiotic ought to clear that right up. Is that with or without a perscription?
December 16, 200618 yr how dare anyone question the mastery of portman BANNED! Mods banning mods. Hardcore. Damn you, post counter.
December 16, 200618 yr Key Tower hands down. Altho I have to agree that Carew is a close second in this one
