July 31, 200717 yr Aren't there also issues dealing with permeable concrete and its ability to stand-up to NEO winters and seasonal swings? I thought I have heard some concerns about this in the past.

CSU believes it is in the community's best interest to, at the very least, create infrastructure during the reconstruction so that when the time comes and funding is available in the future, it will be easier to create. The minimum build should consist of an expansion of the decks on Euclid and Prospect Avenues. This appears (without any market study to back this up) to be the most logical "scar healing" caused by the Innerbelt's original construction. Wit the current proposed alignment, the portion of the freeway that runs adjacent to the campus will not allow for any capping or development. This area is the only spot where vehicles will be able to enter and exit the freeway. But anything is possible.
August 15, 200717 yr FYI: CSU is presenting the new Student Center at tomorrow's Design Review Committee meeting It starts at 1:30 PM in Room 514 at City Hall. On Friday, there will be a presentation for the Planning Commission at 9:00 AM in the same place.

August 16, 200717 yr i think my issue with the structure is that it shouldnt have any brown in it. it would look so much more interesting with a really dark grey put there instead, but then again thats probably dealing with materials and whatnot...
August 16, 200717 yr Any resemblence? Seriously?????? Well, I suppose I can take something out of my ass and stretch it in photoshop to make it look like anything I want too. sheeesh! Anyway, Design Review was today. Two motions (Demolition and Schematic Design) were introduced and passed unanimously. One commission member asked if he could be the first to strike a blow to the building during demolition. After the meeting, I was treated to lunch by Mr Gwathmey at Bo Long ( along with my boss and three other architects).

August 17, 200717 yr I think the problem that I have with the overall design of this building is it says "Student Center" a bit too obviously to me. I'm not sure how they'd improve on that, or even if that's a bad thing necessarily, but .. I dunno. I just want something .. better. Something more reflective of CSU's vision and expansion for the near future.

August 17, 200717 yr For everyone who has/had a problem with the design, you should have come to today's meeting (or sent me an articluate letter that could have been submitted during the process - I offered that to everyone months ago when I post the 50% SD), but you did not. Today the planning Commission approved with commendations the demolition and schematic design of the the new student center. As was noted in Litt's article, many parts of the design need to be worked out: materials, interior look, etc. But it will likely be a combination of brick, natural stone, glass and and metal (maybe zinc).

August 21, 200717 yr I agree with Litt. I'm glad that CSU is taking these things into consideration and is trying to open its campus more. I think any steps towards this will make CSU a more inviting school.
August 22, 200717 yr The B&N bookstore opened this past Monday. It looks like a 2/3rd scale of the current CSU bookstore operated by Nebraska. I saw little in regards to regular books, but hthere was a coffee area w/$tarbucks Oh well. Excuse the blurry, crocked pictures. I was trying to be sneaky.

September 5, 200717 yr in the fall of 2006, the eastern edge of the campus will have a significantly different look with three projects seeing completion. the rec center (w/ green roof!), . . . . What happened to the green roof on the rec center? Has it been discarded or is it still in the works? Looks like a white roof at the moment (certainly cooler in the summer than the black roof recently laid on the law school).
