This looks similiar to that silly facade just west of E55th and Euclid.  I can take a couple guesses who is responsible for this crap...

Update on the dorms progress

 

 

Driving by, you really get a feel for the massive presence these dorms will have on Euclid Avenue.  It's like an entire City block built right up to street.  Still don't care for the materials, but otherwise I really appreciate this project.

On Page 13 under this subject you have an initial rendering of the proposed plaza. The work so far seems to depart from what was proposed. Has the overall design changed? If so, is there a finished rendering of the design as it has progressed?

Renderings did change over time.  I think the original was changed as it would essentially have paved the entire plaza, with limited greenery.  I don't have a final rendering.  I was not involved in the discussions on the design of the plaza, so I have limited knowledge.  Once the scaffolding is off the building, they finish the planting, and install the lights, I will take some new pics. 

 

I'm not sure, but I believe the Wright Center is not happening because of the economic downtown.  Of course, it would still be good for something to happen down the road, once things are turned around.

the wright center ended up at the lorain county community college campus because they royally messed up the process.  It is run as a joint operation between CSU and LCCC.  The site where the wright center was originally intended to go is owned by csu and will be used for a future building at some point... i don't think anyone has any idea when that point will be.

Not open yet. I don't know exactly when they will open but hopefully by the end of the month.

I'm so glad CSU expanded from a commuter school to a campus college. Once we get a more permanent student population living on campus, we can expect to see more bars and restaurants open up around campus. We'll finally have foot traffic back downtown during weekends and evenings!

They do have an indoor track, basketball courts, all purpose court(volleyball, soccer, hockey, badminton, etc.), two pools, ping pong, billiards, air hockey, etc, and all the other stuff thats in a rec center like weights and yoga rooms. I am pretty sure there is not a rock climbing wall though.

But if you wait, they do plan on connecting the Tow Path to the lakefront parks so you'll have about 450+ miles of trail to bike on then! Also, it would be great if they decide to put a legitimate grocery store near downtown (like a Giant Eagle or Heinen's). With a growing downtown population they'll need some actual stores to shop at. And I don't count SteelYard Commons, that place is good for Home Depot and Chipotle, the Walmart is just awful.

We should try to keep this thread on the topic of CSU College Town, but I'll briefly respond to a couple of your concerns.

 

There's a Dave's Market at 3301 Payne Avenue.  It's not a Giant Eagle or fancy Heinen's, but it is legitimate.  There's also a very successful Constantino's in the WHD and another high traffic Dave's Market near W25th on Bridge Ave that many WHD residents frequent.

 

I do avoid Walmart like the plague, but the Target in Steelyard Commons is quite nice.  And if you like Chipotle then try Ohio City Burrito on W25th near Bridge.  It's fantastic and local.

I dont think its that ugly. It should be brick from the designs I saw. Adds nice density to the street, and people. I think it will do great things for the area and hope to see more of it. This should all be in the Cleveland State Development Thread instead since its being built by Cleveland State shouldn't it?

Sounds interesting. My favorite part is the pedestrian bridge and parking deck roof conversion to park in the main plaza in the center of the campus.

Wow, the updated plan looks amazing! The new look will definitely have a "campus feel" to it. It'll be great to see a structured campus in downtown with tons of students living and walking around. I'd love to see CSU take a 'Cleveland Clinic' approach and just start buying up area and expanding into a massive campus. This city could use an established and strong university right in the middle of the city to help grow a diverse workforce. Plus it'd be nice to root for a college team a little closer to home and NOT from Columbus.

CSU has plenty of sports teams you can root for at the moment.

It seems like they are still moving strongly towards constructing the north campus stuff soon.  Does anyone know what the global sustainable center is?

Have always maintained that a Division I football program and 30,000 kids living in dorms/housing in downtown Cleveland would change this town forever.    We need to keep growing CSU and change it's history as a commuter school.

CSU I think could have the biggest potential on impacting this region and downtown.

That's the kind of college I'm talking about! It would allow the young professionals and college students a chance to live in an urban setting and then when they are ready to settle down we have hundreds of established suburban areas just outside city limits.

YES. One thing Cleveland sorely lacks. I see PITT, UC, OSU, etc. and you start to realize what kind of an impact the institutions have on their cities. This kind of growth model has been well-documented and successful. Look at what UC has been doing.. that is the kind of institution that can really start to generate new faces around this cities urban population.
