February 1, 201114 yr Whats the bottom floor going to be? I looks like ther could be retail, but im not sure. My understanding is that the plan has always been to put CSU offices on the ground floor facing Euclid. I believe that these could be modified as storefronts at some future date if the market demanded it.

I would be surprised if they got that level of FF&E in there though. floor plans are very well thought out, and the space will be nice. Though I could be nit-picky at some of the room sizes, the layout is something I havent seen. Good work on that part.

February 4, 201114 yr why? is it condemned? unuseable? there MUST be a reason, the thing is beautiful and historic.. this fails 2 of the 4 goals of their plan which was to add sustainability, and to add uniqueness/sense of place. horrible... if they think they are following the U of Cinci example, they are absolutely failing.

And where was the project on that site labeled "new urban brownstones" supposed to be built? That looks really cool!

Here's some history on it that I dug up while a student at CSU: Built 1927; Originally the home of the Wolfe Music Company 1940 - Accounting office for Henry M. Groves. 1951 - National Cash Register Company 1965 - Cooper School of Art 1996 - Kinkos Copy Center 1998 - Building became vacant A significant enough example of the work of Walker and Weeks that it was featured in "The Architectural Revue of the Mississippi Basin" (Summer issue, 1930, vol 1, No. 1). At least one previous proposal to tear the building down was rejected by the Planning Commission.
February 10, 201114 yr Thanks, Blinker... I have been trying to make noise of this, but so far no response from anyone at Levine College of Urban Affairs. It is one of my most treasured buildings in Cleveland.. because my dad went to Cooper School of Art (the entire school was in that one little building!). I am out of state, for now, but would like to get into this issue. Would a letter to the editor of The Cauldron be enough to raise some attention?

Can you or someone else find out why by calling Planner Gary Newbacher at the Planning Commission 216-664-2210 x3463? I think it's important to find this out because city commissions follow precedence. If there were a good reason for rejecting demolition before, it's probably still a good reason today. February 15, 201114 yr The end of last week and now tonight, I see that the lights are on in the ground floor of that infill University Lofts bldg (next to the B&N campus bookstore). There is some construction equipment and building supplies in there but I havent been able to find anything out.

Do they count CSU students in the census? If I remember correctly, I think we talked about it and it was said that they do not count. If not, you can add on an additional 1,800 people to the number for a large chunk of the year.
