So we have like 60 comments out of 17,000 students???  I'd say those are pretty good numbers.  This whole thing is such a joke.

Any word on where you can get more details on the apartments?

Specs-Pricing-Availability-How to inquire or get on a waiting list?

Will the apartments (two bedroom) be rented out like any other two bedroom, or will they

use a system like Kent's "Campus Pointe" where each bedroom in a two bedroom is

rented out SEPERATELY to different students.

Thanks if you have any info!

I believe that they will be rented out like any other apartment. Since the apartments are for anyone, not just CSU students, I would assume that's how they're gonna do it

Thanks for responding! I hope this is the case.

It would be nice if Polaris or CSU put out some leasing information, as summer is nearing.

Wow! Thanks for the pics. A new neighborhood and the true campusization of Cleveland State happening before our very eyes

Wow, they're going at that like Speedy Gonzales speed like proportions :-D, nice to see :-)

Holy crap!! That's quick progress!

Looks like Cleveland State went with a "Viking Loop" to serve its campus and parking lots/garages. I saw them going around today.

Oy. C'mon people, walking is good for you. Sitting on your ass is not.....

Campusization? Awesome.

Is there any way we can limit the width and size of the photos posted on OhioUrban.com?  In this thread, the text either scrolls to the right forever, or it is so small, it is almost impossible to read.

Yes, KJP lol. Cleveland State is quickly becoming a true campus, but that was their plan.

Looking at the map, I think it would help and make a lot of sense if they considered closing off Prospect for a few blocks to really make the school feel more like a campus.  Wasn't there actually talk a few years ago of closing off one of those main thoroughfares?  That would go a long way in helping with "campusization."

Man I hope those utility poles will come down on Chester. There isn't a bigger buzzkill with new construction when the utility poles remain.

Maybe they could just tunnel Prospect under a concrete brutalist structure.

Cleveland State University ponders the future of the Wolstein Center

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland State University, which won a hard-fought battle 30 years ago to obtain state funding and local support to build the 13,000-seat Wolstein Center, is now seriously considering whether the university should keep it.

Naysayers who warned when the center was proposed that it would be too large, would never turn a profit and would never consistently attract top music and sports events may have been proven right.

^ what's the facility used for now? Concerts, commencements. Anything else?

would they demolish it or try to sell it?  is it possible to use the Q, even though there is a lot going on there with hockey, cavs, concerts.

What about basketball?  Obviously, it is home to CSU basketball, but they also play high school tournament games there.

I think CSU mens basketball uses the arena for, at most, 15 home dates.  I suspect that they could be accommodated at the Q, but I'm not certain on that.  And judging by fan interest, the womens team could move back to Woodling as far as most people seem to be concerned.

As for the high school games, since there's a new NCAA rule that disallows many high school events to be played on the campus of DI schools, there's really not much being lost there.  I realize that there is a Division I boys regional tournament that's always been held at Wolstein, but my guess is that that could easily be located elsewhere, either the Q also or maybe even Akron.

IMHO, there is no way the Wolstein Center will get demo'd. The Board of Trustees is exploring options.  Remember, there is a conference pavilion attached to the arena.  It stays fairly busy.  There are also offices for Athletics including the Men's and Women's basketball team.  There is a weight room, a practice gym and other training rooms.  All those operations would need to be relocated to a new location which probably means a new building.

It won't get torn down.  It may get sold and then the University will lease space as needed.

This is the home of Rock N Roll.  Why not lobby the state to pump some money into a world-class arena & venue management program for CSU, including giving them money to help produce their own events?

The Wolstein is a perfect sized venue for Cleveland concerts.  It is underutilized because the management has their hands tied by regulations which gives the Q an unfair advantage.  The irony is that the Q was paid for by you, me and the rest of the taxpayers also.  We need to even the playing field (pun intended).

Perhaps CSU selling it and then leasing back space (as Bookman mentioned) would allow them to get around those regulations that currently tie their hands and don't allow them to host MMA fighting, Lingerie Football, etc.

They need to be able to wheel and deal with promoters, both local and national.  Hopefully going private would allow them much more flexibility.

MMA and Lingerie Football will not drastically improve the bottom line.

Viking Hall and Kinkos Demolition

The project will consist of three (3) phases. This first phase will entail the asbestos/environmental abatement of both

buildings by a certified asbestos contractor. This will include hazardous materials removal and disposal to a proper landfill.

All ACM, friable materials must be removed prior to demolition. The second phase will be the salvaging of the Kinkos terra

cotta façade for future re-use on this site and the final phase will be the demolition of the remaining structures above

ground and demolition of foundations, capping and re-routing of existing utilities (mechanical and electrical) and earthwork

(excavation and backfilling) of building site.

Too bad they couldn't save the building but at LEAST it won't be a complete loss, if the "salvaging of the façade" works...

I wish it would all go, I don't see how this facade could have any relation to the rest of campus.

Sidenote- the are working on the streetfront of the new neomed building on Euclid. Glad to see that dump is being cleaned up.

Based on similar experiences elsewhere, I do worry that a superficial facade tack-on could be even worse than a straight demo...  Lame that they couldn't just mothball the whole building.  I definitely don't understanding demolition before they've even chosen a developer.

I think it would make for a nice entrance to a new parking garage...or the skywalk attached to said new parking garage.

Two things, first what is the source of this statement about the demolition, and second, I would like to know how CSU expects to do anything to the facade when the Wolfe building is still under review for nomination by landmarks, and they explicitly stated they would not do anything until the issue was decided on.

I too am very worried about another horrible facadomy like Cle Hts City Hall.  I hope they didn't manage to buy Rascal house or Peabody's yet. Although those have no historical significance structure wise, I believe they are strong assets to the campus, plus anything is better than more mega-block development.

A parking garage in this location is like smacking Euclid in the face.

Don't listen to Clevelander17, at this point he is just trolling this thread because he was upset no one cares about his parking problems.

In the interest of not getting myself permanently banned from this website, all I will say is this: I was clearly joking with that comment.

I see a summary PDF for a CORF grant request for the asbestos removal for Viking Hall and Kinkos with the following quote on page 4.  (I have no idea if the request is current/active).

"The asbestos removal and demolition of Viking Hall and the former Kinko’s building is ready to

move forward upon receipt of grant funds."

It mentions developer selection in 2012, with redevelopment slated for 2013.

I figured, but I wasn't sure.  Sorry I failed to get your sarcasm.

There appears to be major renovations to the facade of the University Plaza building (about 1840 Euclid)

Shocked at how quickly the apartments are rising!!!  I saw the same thing jborger...it was interesting to see half of it missing.

1840 Euclid Ave is the Union Building, Cleveland State's future temporary home for NEOMED

Apparently Johnnies deli is closed for good, he stopped paying his rent and got evicted. The barbershop and Cousins cigar are still there and doing well from what I heard.

I'll try and snap a picture of the North Campus project tomorrow.

You'd be surprised at what secured financing and sunny/warm weather will do for construction.

It looks like demo has started on the old theater and arts building today.

Here are the pics.

With the smallish windows on the buildings fronting Chester shown above, I am not getting a retail or commercial vibe.  I take it the proposed retail is suppose to go in the eventual middle building which will be east of the one shown?

^ Yes the middle one will have the retail

^^ I was about to post pictures but it seems you guys beat me since mine look identical.

Does anybody know if they still have plans to bury the power lines along Chester in front of the development?

Moes closed on euclid

I'm kind of sad that we are losing ALL tree coverage on the site. Clearly excited about this project and that it's by-and-large street-fronting, but from in-fill to streetscapes to parks, it seems like we cannot help ourselves but to cut down mid-size and large trees downtown :)
