Ugh... lease space to them in the Transit Center.

Actually, I've been thinking lately that Greyhound would fit in much better on the other side of downtown.  Now that CUT will (may?) see increased Amtrak activity, if we could put a new bus station nearby, we could use that area as a doorstep for downtown Cincy.  Get some businesses to open catering to travelers, and maybe run a streetcar/lightrail line through there, then on to CVG eventually.

^Agreed.  CVG needs rail transit to downtown.  But think of it this way, is it really necessary to move the Greyhound station?  People who want to go to this casino will be dropped off right behind the place.  Most people hate walking anyways! but, IF the streetcar can be connected from the casino to a transit hub with Greyhound, that's a whole different ballgame.

I always thought Phase 2a (I think that's the one), going from CUT to Downtown was the most powerful extension of the streetcar proposal. There is so much potential for TOD with that, it's ridiculous.

"A Presentation of Urban Design Principles for the New Cincinnati Casino"

THURSDAY, JUNE 17 5:30 PM

NIEHOFF STUDIO

2728 Vine Street, Corryville

On February 20 almost 200 Cincinnatians participated in a charrette to develop urban design principles for the new Cincinnati casino at Broadway Commons. These principles are being publicized and circulated and are now helping to guide the casino developer, the City and the casino’s neighbors in developing the casino. The principles are timely and relevant, as Rock Ventures, the casino developer, has declared its intention to create the first great urban casino in the United States.

The presentation of the Cincinnati Casino Charrette outcomes will be followed by discussion of the role we can play in shaping the new casino district.

For those who are having trouble visualizing what is being proposed (and that's pretty easy to understand considering they've been very shy with their renderings), here is a quick and dirty Google Earth model that fulfills the basic info that we know so far:

About 300,000 SF

A mix of one and two stories

Some kind of entrances along Reading and Broadway

Takes into account the topography

Avoids existing buildings (not sure if this reflects their plan, but why not)

This does not include the parking structure. I also make no claims that this in any way represents their actual plan.

It requires a password.  Do we just use our urban ohio account?

.....arggghhhh - can't get in to see the proposed design. UrbanOhio username and password also does not work.  :?

Nope, I just linked it wrong lol. I'll fix it.

Link doesn't work.

Cincinnati may get new hotel, garages due to casino

By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected] • June 18, 2010

Major projects that would add 3,000 new parking spaces and a new hotel could be on the horizon for downtown Cincinnati, as planners prepare for the incoming casino at Broadway Commons.

Roughly 1,800 to 2,200 parking spaces are expected to disappear once work begins at Broadway Commons on the $500 million casino.

That reality has city force city planners to hustle for a solution and so far three big projects are on their radar, says Bob Schroer, who heads up the city's Parking Division.

The streetcar will take your parking spaces but the casino will save them!!!

Look at it this way: would you rather have miles of surface lots or the same number of spaces confined within parking structures?

Honestly, I'm just glad everyone parks in garages.  If Cincinnatians ever realize that they can park on the street for free, I'll be upset.  I usually park downtown or in OTR without even having to circle a block.  Hell, I parked on Elm at Third and walked over to a Bengals game the last time I went, while people were dropping $10-$20 to park in the lot around the corner.

It's because people are lazy and can't walk a few blocks to their destination.

It's amazing how many people don't realize that the parking meters are free after 5 PM and on Sundays.

>while people were dropping $10-$20 to park in the lot around the corner.

Same thing with the Reds.  Watch those dudes with the flags wave the people into the garages right past free meter spaces.

It's amazing how many people don't realize that the parking meters are free after 5 PM and on Sundays.

I think it's 6:00 PM, right?

Yeah ... you guys are right. It's just silly. Nat and I were walking down Sycamore one day on a Saturday (near 8th inters.) and only just a hand-full of cars parked on the street and a lady was scrounging for change in her purse. On a Sunday evening. Ummm???

I told her; "It's FREE!"

It depends.  Court Street is 5 PM along with some other spots.

Most of them are 5, I think.  I know all the ones on Fourth Street are 5.

Did everyone miss what was said in the previous Enquirer article?  They're proposing a 1,040-space parking garage for a 200-bed hotel!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, it's a mini-MGM Detroit!  With dancing golden lions and $30 buffets!

I assume this is because parking garages are money-losers unless they are attached to a profitable component. The garage would be an addition to other future developments that wouldn't need parking garages.

Is that good or bad?  I thought they said that they didn't want an on-site hotel.

If this assumption turned out to be true that would be an alright scenario, but I highly doubt that the City will magically stop requiring parking for another surrounding developments.

A Vegas-Style boxing arena is exactly what is needed to boost our casino!

Also, Pete Rose needs to open a sports bar at the Casino. He can call it "Charlie Hustle's"

I am 110% in agreement with you!!!

There is so much potential by building a top-notch Vegas style boxing arena alongside the casino.

I can name at LEAST 3 maybe 4 friends right now who would make the trip on a 7-8 hour drive to visit Cincinnati - with the major push being: going to a Reds game + Professional boxing match ... and I am just one person. The tourism cashflow alone is worth it ... Cincinnati, do what you need to do to make it happen!

Cincinnati boxing needs to get the recognition it deserves. Every 4 years we're sending at least 1 athlete to the olympics

You got that right.  Correct me if I'm wrong but our metropolitan area houses the largest collection of the best amateur boxers in the nation.  Or once did.  A boxing arena would flourish down there.

Welcome!  I'm liking where your heads at!

  • 5 weeks later...

I don't know so much abou h need to have one down there.  I've gone to an event or two at the Convention Center and while nice , I don't think that there's a draw yet for the type of arena that's needed to pull pro style boxing off.  Also, the casino abuts a neighborhood so I worry how multiple events can be pulled off without causing a potential headache.  Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the development but if the casino is a 24 hour venue, this could be a headache for Pendleton.

Well Pendleton will just have to adapt because it has no choice.  If it's a 24 hour venue, then pendleton will attract people that like living near that kind of stuff.  It's all about adaptation.  Cincinnati has some of the best amateur boxers in the country.  It's almost a no brainer to have the arena.

^That's a very absurd statement. Of course Pendelton will have a choice. The provision wasn't that we'd get a 24 hour casino with no wiggle room for the host neighborhood. Many people have moved into Pendleton along Reading in the past few years. Residents will always have leveraging power, especially if they are middle to high income. In this case, that absolutely wouldn't be a bad thing to keep the casino operation in check. The city has close eyes on this one.

I'm known for absurd statements.  I'm a jerk on the cincinnati.com forums;)

Harrah's to operate downtown casino

Casino developer Rock Ventures has selected Harrah's Entertainment to operate the $400 million casino now under development at Cincinnati's Broadway Commons site near downtown.

The selection of Harrah's has been rumored for weeks but was confirmed by Rock Ventures officials late this morning.

Caesar's Cincinnatus?

^I like it.

Caesar's Cincinnatus?

That would be awesome.

Caesar's Cincinnatus?

Oh man!  Somebody has got to get that name to the right person!

It better be on par with the real Caesars. At least it won't be a crappy Riverboat. MGM Grand Detroit is pretty good for a non Vegas casino. Hollywood and other casinos are so blah.

Caesar's Windsor is a great example of an off-Vegas/Atlantic City casino that looks fantastic (not trashy).

I had no idea Windsor was a destination for international gamblers…

What kind of Harrah's casino will Cincy see?

BY ALEXANDER COOLIDGE • [email protected] • AUGUST 14, 2010

Caesars Cincinnati? Harrah's Cincinnati? Horseshoe Cincinnati?

Now that the world's largest casino company has been tapped to run Cincinnati's future casino, the question becomes: Which of Harrah's Entertainment's three marquee casino brands will gamblers here see?

Harrah's isn't saying, but industry observers don't expect to see a Casears Cincinnati. That nameplate is the company's luxury brand, reserved for markets that specifically court international gamblers. Only four Caesars casinos exist in the world: Las Vegas; Atlantic City; Windsor, Ontario; and Cairo, Egypt.

I thought that one in Louisville was going to be called/was called Caesar's Indiana?  Did they change it?
