How large are e-sports arenas? That's actually a pretty good idea. And if you build an e sports arena (which I'm assuming is a room with lots of seating and giant televisions I've never been to one) put it next to the casino and have it set up so that it can be a sports book lounge when not being used as an e-sports arena as sports betting will be legal in Ohio in the next 3 years.

Could be a headstock.... or two necks, then add headstocks to the necks.

I think the big things that would benefit the casino, will be rebranding. However, Hard Rock has hotels at each casino location, with spas included. There is space for a hotel along the south west side of the building. They typically also have avg. 50k sq. ft. entertainment venues. Some have hard rock cafes, which could easily go in the old Jimmy Buffett location. I just hope they invest in the property and make it similar to the rest of there properties. Would be beneficial to the casino and tax revenue stream.

These organizations have no idea when people will just up and quit playing a certain game en masse -- since there is no way to know. Nobody could predict for example that in April 2017 interest in retro gaming would take a tumble overnight. NES and SNES had been hot for at least 10 years before people just stopped out of nowhere. Nobody knew exactly when interest in drawn-out cinematic games would conk out. That also happened in 2017.

They will 100% change the branding. I see this as a good sign with the opportunity for new investment. May be the time when hotel/ large arena may be built? The Hard Rock in Cleveland has been killing the competition. I am sure all cincy area casinos were just put on notice.

Horseshoe/Jack was prohibited from building a hotel for the first couple of years but that provision expired and they would be allowed to build one now. It looks like 10 of the 11 existing Hard Rock casinos have hotels attached to them. So I would take that as a good sign that they want to build one in Cincinnati.

Any idea where they would potentially build one?

I always assumed that they would put it along Court Street where their drop off circle is now located. However, Greyhound nationally is trying to sell off much of their real estate, so maybe there is an opportunity to acquire the Greyhound station next to the casino and replace it with new development that continues to Gilbert and wraps around the corner, surrounding the garage. That would give them enough space to put a hotel, a theater or e-sports arena, shopping, etc.

I've heard some rumors running around from some people I trust (one works for Jack) about the next phase of Jack/Hard Rock.

Apperantly there have been high levels executives of Hard Rock in and out of Jacks recently in anticipation of the hard Rock transition.

Apperantly Hard Rock is indeed interested in filling one of the nearby lots with a branded Hard Rock Hotel which is why (among other reasons) for their recent visits.

I'm curious what lot they are eyeing if this is indeed true?

If the pick the lot between eggleston and court, I really hope they dont tear down the flatiron(ish) building thats at the corner. Either way, if true this is pretty cool!

Intersting. I wonder how big (and tall) they would go with this hotel.

Rumors are definitely true. Proposed Hard Rock Hotel and a new Hard Rock Cafe in the old Jimmy Buffet restaurant location. I have been told the hotel would squeeze in the area where the turn around drop off loop is south of the casino and parking garage (North of Court Street).

IT'S HAPPENING!!!

I'm thinking the hotel will probably be around 14-15 stories...Seems to be the height trend for most of hard Rock hotels.

I was also told besides Hard Rock Cafe, there will be a House of Blues as part of the developement. I'm not sure if that would mean there would be 2 house of blues (one in Cleveland and one in Cincy) or if they would shut the Cleveland House of Blues down.

House of Blues is a chain. There are many of them.

Not really. There are only 17 house of blues in the United States in total and they tend to not open more than 1 in the same state.

I also believe Hard Rock has some stake of ownership as well.

lol...

Two technically makes a chain, but colloquially it can take up to 6. I have two locations but I don't call it a chain. 17, though, is definitely a chain any way you slice it.

Louisville’s hard rock is significantly closer to a proposed Cincy hard rock. And Pittsburgh is significantly closer to cleveland than a proposed cincy hard rock. There’s no reason that these two wildly different markets couldn’t co-exist

These locations will NOT have an effect on a  Cincy location at all. Cincinnati will be financially structured very differently from the others because it will be inside an actual Hard Rock Casino and there for will pay no rent essentially. It will have a constant flow of diners and will be used for comp meals/promotions for gamblers and such I’m certain, numbers wise it will perform very well.

Around 2005, there were rumors that House of Blues was considering buying the Madison Theater in Covington and rebranding it as a House of Blues. The Madison Theater started booking some bigger artists around that time and there was speculation that this was because HOB was kicking the tires and trying out some larger shows before making a final decision. However in 2006, Live Nation bought the House of Blues chain, and since Live Nation already owns Bogart's, it didn't really make sense for them to buy the Madison as well. (Both venues are similarly sized, holding around 1500 people, and book similar artists.)

If a HOB gets built at the casino, it's yet another bullet point added to the list of reasons MEMI should scrap their plans for a music venue at The Banks.

It's still based on if the purchase is approved by all parties and the state. Hard Rock has big plans but it's all planning stages til final ownership hands off

Well, probably time to change some things up. Despite its large cost to build, the casino doesn’t feel very “relevant” to the culture of the city. Especially after they stopped having concerts outside

To be fair, they are still quite popular resturaunts that cater to a wide audience.

Every tourist city needs things like a Hard Rock Cafe/Hard Rock Hotel/House of Blues, etc...It's a thing that tourists still love to go do/eat/see and sort of adds one more notch to your city.

Agreed. I just remember years ago, if you city had a Hard Rock Café, you could claim you had arrived as a destination, because you had it emblazoned on the T-shirt. To their credit, the Hard Rock brand has lasted a lot longer than the other brands like Planet Hollywood, etc.

Any time you found a Hard Rock Cafe, you knew there was a Planet Hollywood, Nascar Cafe or a Nascar Speedpark nearby.

I was shocked to learn that there's a Hard Rock Cafe a block away from the Duomo in Florence. I guess those Medicis really knew how to go crazy on the lute and mandolin.

Could you imagine if eating there was your only memory from that trip?

Is this by those large empty lots Adjacent to the casino by E. Court St?

That's how I see it. A little disappointing they could cover up one of those lots across the street

I could see Hard Rock build a skywalk to connect the hotel to the casino if they are building at the lot across the street.

They certainly would want to do this. Casinos like to keep everyone inside as much as possible. Now whether the city allows it is another question altogether.

I hope that when this happens the hotel has some height to it. at least 20 stories, hopefully more. I was in the Times Star building recently and staring out the window and with the view there, it really made the Baldwin and Tri-Health buildings seem part of downtown from there. Add a few mid rises in the sea of parking and it starts to connect it better.

I would be shocked if they didn't build the hotel right there, where their drop off circle is now located. That's a 465ft x 125ft rectangle, or about 1.3 acres, plenty of room for a hotel. As a comparison, the new Tru by Hilton hotel that's going in next to the Corryville Kroger will be built on 0.65 acre lot.

Would they want to get rid of that drop off circle? I feel like it sort of serves a purpose for Uber’s/valet who want to directly enter the front casino restaurants.

I’m not entirely sure what the size of the hard rock hotel will be, or how many rooms, but I imagine that the lots across the street would have a better presence along 1-71, rather than a hotel that’s sort of tucked away.

Usually hard rock hotels are sort of flashy and, “In your face”....

Most of that can exist very similar to the Terrace Plaza or maybe the first level is half pillars and the entire site survives with the hotel on top. The largest reason it is a likely build site is that they already own it. That alone could save millions over buying land that someone else has the upper hand owning. It could also go to the north in the greenspace they own beyond the garage if expressway presence is key but that sets it far from the casino.

Was horseshoe casino originally meant to have a hotel attatched? I recall something of that nature but could be imagining things.

Under Ohio’s casino law, the casinos were not allowed to build a hotel for the first 5 years that they were open. That time period has passed and they can now open a hotel. But I’m sure that when Horseshoe was designed, they planned exactly where the hotel would go when they could finally build it.

That drop off circle is for employees only. I believe taxis and ride share let off on Reading Road.

Right, I would expect the hotel drop off area to look similar to what exists at the Hyatt.

How many rooms could that lot size fit? Or does the size of the lot not really matter when you go vertical?

You are correct sir. This is the area I mentioned earlier in the tread, where the hotel tower will go. Hard Rock isn't buying up anymore land, they will use the land that is available for the hotel tower.

You do a single, double loaded corridor. You can easily do 40-50 rooms per floor. That includes stairwells at both ends with elevator core in center. You don't have to do a ton of public spaces since your guests will dine, congregate and be in the casino portion of the property. You will need a lobby, gym, probably a small bar with food service, and since it's Hard Rock there will be a spa on another floor. The location is ideal, no one is to the south of them so 50% of the rooms will have city views...

It's a Hard Rock so you forgot room for a swimming pool (probably with swim up bar and space for a DJ booth). Hopefully its a rooftop pool and amenity deck, that would be unique to downtown Cincinnati right, especially if Millenium gets knocked down?
