Posted December 27, 200618 yr holy branding crapoly batman -- it just might actually be happening! an ipod inspired building. yes its for dubai, where else? from a variety of sources: hoo haa! Let's all admit to ourselves that love or hate the iPod, we're pretty damned curious to know what the iPod building from last week will look like. We still don't know for sure what shape it'll take, but our pals over at Archpartners, an 3D architecture rendering firm in Boston (that has no affiliation, as far as we know, to the designing firm James Law Cybertecture International), did a little mocking up of what form they think Dubai's latest tower could take. We'd just like to take this chance to remind Omniyat Properties to get it done fast -- you're up against a dude named Crazy John in the race to build the world's largest monument to consumer electronics nerdom. http://www.gulfnews.com/business/Rea.../10091282.html iPod will be model for Omniyat's new tower By Robert Ditcham, Staff Reporter Dubai: Real estate developer Omniyat Properties is planning to launch projects worth more than Dh3 billion in 2007, starting with a tower inspired by Apple's iPod MP3 player. The company will announce at least two residential projects and one commercial development and will open its account in February with the innovative iPad residential tower in Business Bay. The 23-storey building, which is scheduled to bring more than 200 units onto the market in 2009, was designed by Hong Kong-based architects James Law Cybertecture International. The tower will sit atop a docking station angled at six degrees to give the exact look. With a property portfolio worth Dh2.7 billion in its first year of operations - made up of four luxury commercial developments in Business Bay and one residential tower - the company has already made a swift impression on the market. links: http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/25/ipod-building-as-envisioned-by-architecture-firm/ http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=423124
December 27, 200618 yr Won't Apple be obligated to sue the architect for stealing the "look & feel" of the iPod ?
December 27, 200618 yr When Microsoft's "Zune" steals their marketshare this building will be rendered obsolete. Cool looking building regardless.
December 27, 200618 yr Won't Apple be obligated to sue the architect for stealing the "look & feel" of the iPod ? thats what i thought, but in one of the blog links someone said that apple agreed to it. here musky's ifan pic kind of confirms that. hey at least they have a sense of humor about their brand awareness marketing.
December 27, 200618 yr Why wouldn't apple agree to it? It's like a giant-ass billboard they they don't have to pay for.
December 27, 200618 yr Why wouldn't apple agree to it? It's like a giant-ass billboard they they don't have to pay for. i think you misread something -- according a blog comment on one of those links, they did agree to it. from reading the remarks it even looks like it is actually going to get built.

December 28, 200618 yr That's not a good comparison though. Apple isn't competing with construction, engineering, and architecture firms. I'm not saying they aren't capable of doing it, just that they would be stupid to sue them for that.
December 29, 200618 yr Of course it's being built in Dubai. This one of those things I'd love to see built, just not here in America.
December 29, 200618 yr I, for one, will relish the demise of this and every other bizarro vanity structure when Dubai becomes the next Beirut. Coming soon: the iHeadstraightforthebombshelter.
December 29, 200618 yr I used to think dubai would be a really cool place, but I think they're going overboard. Its looking more and more like vegas.
December 29, 200618 yr at least vegas has a legitimate economy. doesn't it seem to be the case with these illegitimate cities?
