I LOVE FAMILY PICS...REALLY LOVE THE TWO FLAPPER PICS!

Treasures!

thanks fellas.

rob, do you anything about that old road grater? i was thinking you might.

Awesome!

Nice post, thank you for sharing.

Terrific stuff. My favorite is the interior of the former Witt's store. The decor is quintessential 1920s and I love it. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era.

my grandmother worked there before she was married. it collapsed on her during the tornado, but she was ok. she wrote on the back of the photo that the shop had 3 stories and a big freight elevator to move the grand pianos.

Is Lorain High still standing, thats a great structure. Excellent pics, I enjoyed!

yeah, i think it's a middle school now. however, i think it's future is in doubt.

thanks!

i appreciate the time and peak back towards a bygone era

Great pictures - I'll have to search the old family albums to see if I have any to post.

Lorain High still stands for now - there has been a school on that site since 1870 when a four-room school was constructed.  Current building was opened in 1916 and has been added to several times.  Last graduating class was 1995, after which it was used as Lorain Middle School until 2005, when several new schools opened as part of Lorain's rebuilding project - students now attend Gen. Johnnie Wilson or Longfellow Middle Schools.  The building has been scheduled for demolition by the school board, but I understand that asbestos removal is holding up the project, and the building is now just used for storage - too bad a West Tech-like project wouldn't likely fly in Lorain.

The old Lorain Catholic High School is also vacant - plans to transform it into senior housing and build condos on the athletic fields were scrapped by Catholic Charities due to two cell phone towers on the property with long-term property leases.  There's a Grubb and Ellis sign out front with PRICE REDUCED, so if anyone needs a 119,000 sq ft building on 29 acres, it's a steal at $1.5mil.

On a brighter note, the former Nativity School has been redeveloped by Catholic Charities as senior apartments and several infill homes are also being built in the nearby blocks.
