January 5, 200718 yr Oh I love Paris. It maintains its beauty from its incredible old architecture, yet the spirit of the place seems to have a very modern feel. Also, I'm glad you got a picture of Hemmingway's apt, The Sun Also Rises is one of my favorite novels and I didn't get to see his home when I was there.

January 5, 200718 yr I'm also going to Paris this spring. It will be the last city on my 17-day trip through England, Wales, Belgium, Germany and France. So I leave for America from Charles de Gaulle Airport with the images of Paris still fresh in my mind.... Not an easy transition. Terrific pics, by the way. January 5, 200718 yr And a plug adapter. Yep. And I'm thinking about buying a digital video camera that I can get high-resolution still photographs from. Yet I can't afford to spend more than a few hundred dollars (actually, I can't even afford to spend that). But this is an important trip for me, since this may be the only time I ever get over to Europe in my life. And I don't want to spend it juggling my Sony camcorder and my Pentax K-1000 (plus its zoom and wide-angle lenses) while trying to capture the same subject. Any suggestions on what kind of digital video camera I should buy? Is there a place where I could rent one? January 6, 200718 yr Best city on earth. I have never enjoyed a city so much in my life, I am currently 4 hours away from Paris right now and your photos are tempting me to go back but I think we are going to go to Muchen tomorrow.

If referring to architecture etc., well duh weese ain't that old sf does not hold a candle to paris re transit nor walkability. too many hills, not enough transit. otoh paris has a complete & convenient web of all modes of transit. hell it blows nyc away too for that, it really does set the bar very high.

I need to speak more French, Italian, Portuguese & German or I'm afraid I'll lose them. I'm actually surprised i typed that crap as well as I did, since I normally just speak or read, not write. Living in Cleveland and New York the only other language I use frequently is Spanish. This just reminded me of family life as a kid - I could always tell when my parents had an argument or my Mom was mad at my Dad, she wouldn't speak to him in English and my brother and I had to act as interpretors! Although, when she was mad at my brother she would switch to Latin and freak me out! LOL
January 9, 200718 yr Ah, Paris, elle me manque beaucoup! Spent two years living there … here are my “top six” things to do in an around Paris: 1. Grab a baguette, a bottle of “limonade” and a chunk of camembert at La Samaritaine Department Store, and find a place along the Seine for lunch. 2. See the view of the city from Mont Valerian, which rises to the west of the city – it is an amazing, living postcard view. 3. Do mass at Notre Dame, just once – and climb one of the towers -- preferably right after a rainstorm. 4. A trip to Versailles on the one Sunday a month when they turn the fountains on. 5. The Musee d’Orsay. Not quite as intimate as the old Jeu de Paume by the Louvre, where you could actually reach out and touch the Van Goghs (if you wanted to), but still the same magnificent Impressionist masterworks. 6. And – without a doubt – a visit to Sainte Chapelle – incredible expanses of medieval stained glass which seem to float, almost without walls. The blues are amazing. Thomas/presOhio
