Posted January 7, 200718 yr Found on eBay: 8 Volume set including about 2000 photos of Ohio cities and towns from about year 1900, published for the Ohio centennial. As of today the starting bid is $75. Search ebay item 260071490654 This would make a great addition to Urban Ohio. I would be willing to chip if someone from Urban Ohio could win this and scan the photos. Sorry, I will not be available when this auction closes.
January 7, 200718 yr I used to bid on Hamtramck items I saw on eBay until I realized I was always bidding against my friends on the Hamtramck Historical commission. By the way, I just bid $10,000 on the Ohio book and I ain't showing it to ANY of you.
January 8, 200718 yr I just put a bid in on it...we'll see how it goes. Definitely looks cool! If I win, I'll be happy to loan it to someone for scanning purposes, but I don't have a scanner myself...
January 8, 200718 yr This is the kind of feedback people are saying about RV on ebay:  Pushy & obnoxious. No patience---like a 5 year old.
January 8, 200718 yr Yeah, that asshat...dude has his auction end the day he's leaving town for a frickin' week's vacation. Then he gets back into town and still doesn't ship it. Then when it shows up, I didn't want to be a jerk and leave negative feedback - I mean, I did get what I paid for - so I leave him neutral. And he leaves that...gah, I was so pissed. Then he starts making fun of my mother in email and stuff - it's like he was a middle schooler or something...ach, I was so pissed at that asshole...
January 8, 200718 yr Riverviewer: I'm counting on you to win this. You already have three people who are willing to chip in. Just let us know what you need. I have a flatbed scanner. It will take a while to scan 2000 photos, though. I am planning to be away when the auction closes. Anyone else willing to chip in?
January 8, 200718 yr $10,001...AND TWO BITS... $10,001, three bits, and a Kellogg's Frosted Flakes coupon redeemable for 1/20 of a penny! It's MINE NOW!
January 8, 200718 yr Middle schooler is better than a five year old... :) ...you must not know many middle schoolers, nor many 5-year-olds! Riverviewer: I'm counting on you to win this. I will do my best! I don't want to post my bid here, it being the internet and all, but if it stays reasonable I'll buy it, and if I get outbid I'll let everyone know. But to be honest, I'm interested in either dropping some cash and owning it, or else maybe donating $10-$20 to someone else who wants it more - I'm not really into co-owning it. But if I do win, I'll happily let Eighth & State scan away at it, and will buy a pbase account to host what he scans!
January 11, 200718 yr I just won the auction on eBay...that's a great idea about OhioLink, but I think I'm going to want to digest these shots slowly over time...except the Cincinnati shots, of course - those will be devoured quickly! Anyway, Eighth & State, I'll let you know when the books come in, and will get them over to you for scanning purposes!
January 11, 200718 yr I'll just scan Ohio's midsize cities: Hamilton, Springfield, Lima, Canton, Elyria, etc, my usual favorites. (if they exist) 8th and State can focus on the small towns and big seven.
January 11, 200718 yr Riverviewer's Humor Rotation: 1. Post pic of ColDay's broken down car. 2. Mention Stryker. 3. Make obviously rediculous statement that says something to the effect of some large city being a suburb of some one stoplight town, or similar statement to fit situation (see Mt. Orab MSA). 4. Mention Stryker. 5. Repeat. :-D Middle schooler is better than a five year old... :) ...you must not know many middle schoolers, nor many 5-year-olds! I do...and you've got a point there!
January 11, 200718 yr ^I do the same thing in real life, though with a different set of jokes. You should pity my poor wife.
5. Repeat. :-D Shoot, you could knock all those out in one! Example: "^ My ColDay tour of Stryker, Ohio. I'm glad this happened while touring one of its suburbs (Toledo), though; inner-city Stryker is no place to be stuck with a broken car!" I just quadrupled RiverViewer's efficiency!
January 11, 200718 yr ^LMAO!!!! I do enjoy running jokes however, so I take no pity on your wife, RV.
January 11, 200718 yr What do you know...I went to the library to pick up my requested copy and it only included the first 330 +/- pages, which means it was just getting to city scapes by the end. There are lots of photo of old landscapes, forts (the best image I've ever seen of Ft. Hamilton), and cemetery's, but little on the city side as of yet. I don't know if I'll bother requesting the other two volums or not...we will see.
March 9, 200718 yr I've been here...Eighth & State was out of the country for a while, and we never hooked up after that...Eighth & State, the books are here, and ready to be scanned!
March 9, 200718 yr Hum...I haven't noticed your posts lately. I miss the old days of UrbanOhio...PigBoy, Riverviewer, grasscat, fighting with monte over Mason city limits... I guess we've moved into the UncleRando Era.
March 9, 200718 yr I haven't posted much lately...there's just so much volume now, it's hard to keep up...easier just to fall behind, and pop in now and then. I still plan on keeping up on things, it just seems not to happen...alas...
March 10, 200718 yr I should be ready to scan soon. I am tied up on another project at the moment. Mods - is there an UrbanOhio server I can put these on? Riverviewer - let's arrange a time for me to pick up the books within the next month or two.
March 10, 200718 yr We can take care of hosting these...there are a number of options - I have some web space, or could get a pbase account for this...lots of options! Just let me know when you're ready!
